Is it time for the signature to lose its legal status?
Meaning people would e-sign documents? I think the problem with this would be authenticating the signature, but with new procedures and new technology, there will always be bumps and missteps in the beginning.A lot of changed in the legal field with regards to technology are happening now. So much information lawyers rely on daily is readily available online. E-signing would definitely speed up contract signings, but I think more security around this needs to be developed.

What is the legal significance of a physical signature?
The general concern around scanned PNGs, etc. is not if they are a signature -- they clearly can be -- but if a court will deem them the same as a written signature. There is a legal safe harbor, the Federal E-SIGN Act that services like www.echosign.com are built around, that deem an electronic signature under federal and state law the same as a written signature. PNGs and other systems, where both sides do not agree to an electronic signature, may not be deemed by a court to be the same as a written signature, adding ambiguity to the document and signature.

What is the best brokerage firm in India which allows you to trade all by yourself?
My dad has been in the stock market for about 20 years now. On being asked he said he has tried many brokerage firms including Indianivesh, Angel broking, Indiabulls, Kotak security, Reliance money etc. But finally he settled for Motilal Oswal. The reason for which is simple.Motilal oswal is currently one of the largest brokerage house in India. With over 3800 crores worth of market capital, the company has been performing very well in the market. The company has offices in all the major cities of the country as well as some small cities which provide ease of access.Buying and selling calls of the company are very strong due to strong technical and fundamental analysis done by the research team. The company provides the owner full control of his/her account. With upgraded apps, it is very easy to keep track of your transactions and quick in making sale purchase of equity. The company is working at a very large scale making it trustworthy.A peraon will be happy if he/she knows that his/her money is being invested properly and is in safe hands. Recently i also opened my account in this firm and i am highly satisfied by their service. I would recommend people to try this firm out.

How many doctors are satisfied using EMR/EHR systems?
David's answer is really good, since I know that many doctors/clinicians are unhappy with the EMR. It doesn't make me happy. But, I do know some doctors were happy with the EMR. Dan Munro wrote some about this in the following report and KLAS has some surveys with doctors that are also happy with their EMRs as well: Dan Munro's answer to Which healthcare software has the best (or even good) user-experience? This could be expressed as seeking and valuing user feedback, hiring a strong UX team, and fostering UX skills for developers. When I worked with the EMR, the satisfied doctors I worked with had some complaints, but it overall improved the way that they were able to facilitate care for their patients. What are some of the major differences between happy doctors and the unhappy doctors? Allow me to share: 1. The doctors/clinic staff/administrators identified and agreed on the clear business/clinical metrics that they wanted to improve with the EMR. If you remember nothing else or ignore everything else, remember this one. Even if you’re being forced to use the EMR, do this. Just because the government offered doctors and organizations money to install the EMR didn't mean that it was always a good idea. In many cases, it was a terrible idea. These are things that your salesman with slicked back hair and a kind smile won't tell you. As a tech geek, I would love for us to have all patient data in a discrete format on a computer so that we make inferences on patients as a whole with the click of a button or a query of a database. That’s the dream, right? But, as a doctor that doesn't help you today. It doesn't solve any of your day-to-day pain points. The practices that installed the EMR well had goals that served as the guiding light for that install. Some examples: · Right now I need to do manual chart reviews for research and I have to hire 3 staff to help me with this. I'd like to build forms so that I can do this automatically.· It takes us 7 days to send follow-up communication to referring doctors. Can we speed this up to one day?· I'd like to prove that I do a comprehensive visit so I can bill the proper amount of money for a visit.· We would like to know every child that has a difficult airway and fire a warning every time we access their chart in the hospital so that everyone knows they need to prepare for a tricky intubation. This can save lives. · I do the same thing 50 times a day and I don't want to do that anymore. Can you standardize the way that I do x thing 50 times a day? There were many more of these goals, but those goals needed to be the purpose. Any organization that said "we're just going to take the money and figure out what we want to use the EMR for later" mostly failed.Measurable goals first. 2. The tech person meets with the clinicians regularly, gets their feedback on what they want and has them try out the tools before turning on the software. This takes some time but pays at a major multiplier. As a tech person, I know that clinicians have pain points. But, I don't know exactly what they are. In design, we say that there are "patterns". They are familiar ways of interacting with technology that we can present to users to facilitate quick and easy adoption. But, not everyone likes the same patterns. Some doctors like dictation, some point and click, some speech recognition, some typing at points. Knowing what works for you takes some feedback. In the best installs, the tech team met weekly with the doctors, saw what they liked and didn't liked, and tweaked the process enough. My former next door neighbor recently implored to me: "Mark, please, PLEASE, talk with clinicians before designing anything. So much of this software is so bad." She gave me a post-it note with her email address so I could contact her once I got back to San Francisco. Developers: Talk to those people. Clinicians: Give us the time to do that. 3. There is transparency between administrators, compliance, doctors, etc. on what organization-wide decisions are being made and what ramifications that holds for system configuration. There is opportunity to submit regular feedback and change. This is not revealed to clinicians at go-live. When I would meet with unhappy doctors, I would collect their "This is bad. Why do I have to do x, y and z?" list. More often than not, the real answer was: "You don't, we could configure the system/workflow totally differently.” Change management and EMR installs go hand in hand. Sometimes the organization had good reasons to cause the doctors to jump through a perceived hoop. Maybe the laws or reimbursement requirements changed. Sometimes the organization made a decision that should have been passed down to their staff. There should have been no surprises. Also the clinicians should have had an easy channel to communicate this and the tech people should have stopped by to get more details. No excuses. 4. Training, training, training. Everyone gets training. Everyone gets enough training. Everyone gets specific training. Everyone can practice before turning on software. Everyone gives the system a test run with simulated patients before turning on software. This is the fonz. The fonz is cool. He hits the jukebox and it plays the hits and makes the kids go wild. That's how everyone wants to interact with technology! A doctor with a lab coat, stethoscope and paper chart is classic cool. Sitting down at a computer and typing stuff is less cool and less fonz. Furthermore, clinicians don't want to look bad in front of patients because the patients have entrusted them with their lives. How can we make clinicians look more fonz? This might make some UI/UX people cringe, but I'm going to say it: We can't design an EMR solution that is totally obvious and requires no training and no practice. Not in the year 2012. The workflows are too complex at times and have too many permutations. The first time a doctor uses an EMR shouldn't be day 1 of using a system. The first time the staff uses the EMR together shouldn't be day 1 of using a system. Clinicians need to practice. Kaiser has set up an entire program for training doctors on "EMR manner" called the LEVEL system and built an innovation/training center to do this and only this. It’s more than knowing just where to click. Also, the best organizations pay their staff for this training time. It’s the only way. This list isn't comprehensive. It's pretty much what I could write without being too long in the tooth on a cross -country flight. I already hit 1200 words. I could write 12,000 more. I want you to trust me as a tech person because I think we can make some beautiful stuff together. I want to help you because you do a great job of helping people. Hopefully, this advice helps you before you get something you don’t want and you are unhappy. Best wishes.

What triggered your daily rant today?
The Social Security Administration.First thing this morning I had to call the IRS to move tax liabilities from one account (FEIN) to another. After waiting on hold for over 20 minutes, I spent another 15 minutes verifying who I am (seriously, I had to give my own social security number even though it wouldn’t be on record associated with either my own company or the company I was calling on behalf of), what company I worked for, the companies I was calling about, their respective addresses and accounts, and a partridge in a pear tree. Then I had to e-fax the power of attorneys for both comp...
