What can Estonia give to the world?
What Estonia can give to the world is the experience of building digital society.Being a fairly small country (population of 1.3 mln in 2013), Estonia has an advantage of introducing such innovations that would be much more difficult to carry out in larger countries. Most remarkable of those are related to IT services such as e-government. Here is a brief outline of current achievements.Every citizen has an ID card, which is in essence a certificate, a public-private key pair. ID-card can be used to sign documents. Such digital signature has the same legal power as a handwritten signature. This means that you do not have go anywhere to give your signature - you can do it online. Also, using the ID-card one can authenticate on all public service websites as well as in the internet banks, online shops, etc. ID-card makes electronic voting possible. An alternative to ID card is Mobile-ID, which allows secure authentication (just like ID-card) using your own mobile phone with a special SIM-card. This service is supported by all mobile operators. All public services are integrated among each other (this is called X-Road). For example, I pay my taxes online. I click a link in the internet bank to send my home loan information to the tax system. The tax system will take some additional information on the estate I have from land and estate registry. I am presented a final calculation of tax returns that I only have to confirm (digitally). All this takes about 5 minutes. By the way, this year they have a mobile app for this.In addition, you can: register a company in 20 minutes, buy prescripted medicine without any papers, pay for parking using a mobile app, etc. Refer to e-Estonia | The Digital Society for more details. The trick is that such solutions do not require big-data technologies in Estonia - a good relational database will do. This, however, does not diminish the work of all the developers. I'm just saying that an information system with the same functionality would be much more expensive in, say, USA or China. As for areas that do not relate to IT directly, check out the recent article: Estonia launches first national electric car charging network

Why isn't there any robust electronic signature system in India that can be used across all government offices, including the pu
Electronic signatures have been valid in India, since year 2000, under the Information Technology Act (IT Act).As per the IT Act, two types of signatures have the same legal status as handwritten signatures. These primarily include:(i) Digital Signatures: In this case, the signer is issued a long-term (1 to 2 year) certificate based digital ID stored on a USB token that can be used along with a personal PIN to sign a document.Note: Previously, the signer was issued a long-term (1 to 2 year) certificate based digital ID stored on a USB token that could be used along with a personal PIN to sign a document digitally. Now with Aadhaar, that complicated procedure isn’t required anymore. You can simply use signNow’s Aadhaar eSign to create a digital signature on the fly using your Aadhaar ID(ii) Electronic signatures: These electronic signatures combine Aadhaar identity number with an electronic Know-Your-Customer (eKYC) method (which includes sending an One-Time-Passcode to the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar card for verification)In fact, Aadhaar based electronic signatures are currently being leveraged by government authorities such as Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Department of Revenue, and Ministry of Finance. For example, the Department of Telecommunications recently issued detailed guidelines that allow telecom service providers to use the Aadhaar eKYC process to issue new mobile connections as an alternative to existing proof of identity.Looking to sign documents legally in minutes? If you are looking to get legally compliant electronic signatures on contracts, invoices, quotes etc., try signNow, India’s first Aadhaar eSign solution that offers a complete fill-and-sign functionality with business workflows. How do the Echosign / signNow widgets produce valid e-signatures?
signNow embedded signing is a scenario where the host application and signNow service share authentication responsibility. Additional forms of authentication like RSA knowledge base authentication, Phone authentication and others can be added for additional evidence that the signer is who they say they are. If you think about it the access to the e-mail address is also a piece of evidence, in this case we are just allowing the host application to verify access to e-mail. Next and very important point is that signNow certifies all of our API integrations and during that certification we ensure that the integrated apps adhere to code and compliance standards. I am not sure if other companies do it, but it would be great if everyone made sure that these embedded scenarios always had a minimum bar of compliance.

What it is the legal framework in India regarding electronic signatures?
Contrary to common notion, electronic signatures have been valid in India, since year 2000, under the Information Technology Act (IT Act).As per the IT Act, two types of signatures have the same legal status as handwritten signatures. (in the case of Aadhaar based signatures, they are linked by the unique Aadhaar ID)(ii) At the time if signing, the signatory must have control over the data used to generate the electronic signature (for eg: they should be able to directly affix the electronic signature to the document)(iii) There should be an audit trail of the steps taken during the signing the process(iv) In the case of digital signatures, signer certificates must be issued by signNowing Authority recognized by the Controller of signNowing Authorities appointed under the IT Act.Currently government authorities such as Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Department of Revenue, and Ministry of Finance are all accepting electronic records using electronic signatures.Looking to sign documents legally in minutes? If you are looking to get legally compliant electronic signatures on contracts, invoices, quotes etc., try signNow, India’s first Aadhaar eSign solution that offers a complete fill-and-sign functionality with business workflows. Can a wife that is a notary sign a legal document for court for her husband?
I had to read you question twice. At first I thought you were asking, “Can a wife that is a notary, signNow her husband’s signature on a legal document for court?” But when I re-read it I think you’re asking, “Can a wife that is a notary, sign a form for her husband (on his behalf)?”Am I right?Well, let me be safe and attempt to re-state and answer both questions. Please note that I am not an attorney and these answers should not be considered legal advice. Can a wife who is a notary, signNow her husband’s signature? In the United States, each state determines what its notaries can and cannot do. Believe it or not, what I do in Alabama is very different from what a notary in Florida can do. So the best way to answer your question is to for you check your state’s notary laws. That being said, in many states, the answer would be “no”. Notaries are discouraged from notarizing their spouse’s signature because it’s hard to be impartial. In Alabama, I refrain from notarizing the signatures of members of my immediate family. Can a wife who is a notary, sign a document for court for her husband (on his behalf)? This is a legal question which requires an attorney or legal representative to answer it correctly for you. As a notary, I have had wives sign on behalf of their husbands, and visa-versa, when they had Power of Attorney to do so. What do I mean? When a couple is refinancing their home and husband is away on business on the same day of closing (when the papers must be signed). The husband completes a Power of Attorney form designating his wife to act on his behalf. The Power of Attorney form is signed by the husband and is either witnessed and/or signNowd. Then the wife can sign her name on the refinancing papers as well as her husband’s name, after presenting the Power of Attorney form. Would this work for court documents? Possibly, but I would think only the court, in question, could answer that.I hope this helps.

How can blockchain technology be applied by governments?
The truth is: it can’t be applied to government s, at least not in any useful way. The same is true for businesses (for the most part)Could a government use a blockchain data structure for its monetary or voting system? Sure. Would it be useful? No.The reason for this is that for a government to run it’s monetary or voting system on a blockchain, it would need to control all the nodes on the network. But as any bitcoin enthusiast knows, once 51% of the network is controlled by one entity, the whole scheme falls apart. The government could censor any transaction it wanted to just like it can today (perhaps even more easily than it can now).Which begs the question: if, from the very beginning, one institution is going to control all of the nodes in the network, why have the network in the first place? Why not just run a simple traditional database? If you don’t want that database completely in one one location (and therefore easy to attack) just keep a few copies elsewhere; before we had the blockchain, it’s not like companies didn’t keep extra copies of their data in multiple server locations.A government blockchain would be as useful as setting up a bunch of computers and putting them on an intranet where only you have access to the computers. Can you do it? Yes. Is it actually useful at all to you? No.
