Which company offers higher salary for an engineering graduate in Information technology ? Why?
6 LPA is decent in today's date, but if you are really good, you deserve more. Do not limit yourself, keep learning new stuff. If you are a good, you will be paid according to your skills and what you deserve. But, apart from just having skills it is important that you showcase your skills in the right way. Few suggestions around how you can do better to acquire the right skills and showcase them -Pick up the right programming/scripting language or frameworks that are worth learning. A few that I can suggest (do not limit yourself to these) - If you are a Web developer - Bootstrap, HTML/CSS, AngularJS, and other javascript frameworks. If you are a Backend developer - Python, Ruby, NodeJS, PHP, Perl. If you are into Mobile development - master your skills in UX apart from Java (for Android Development) & Objective-C or Swift (for iOS Development). As a Database developer, learn about MySQL, MongoDB, PL/SQL.Nourish your programming skills. Focus more on code optimization and best practices. Anyone can do coding, but writing a good code is a skill which is hard to achieve and only few get into the league.Make live projects that can be showcased to recruiters. Example, if you a Web Developer, make a few websites, if you are into Android, publish an app on Play Store, iOS guys can publish on App Store.Create a Github or Bitbucket profile to showcase your code. A lot of time recruiters ask for your Git profile to judge the quality of code you write.Participate in coding challenges on HackerRank, HackerEarth and similar websites. This allows you to get onto a challenge with other coders like you and also enhance your skills so you get better.Contribute to Stack Overflow by answering questions that you know. It is a brilliant community for programmers to help each other. Also, upvote answers that you think helped you. For me, Stack Overflow is like 'Quora for Programmers' and being able to contribute on Stack Overflow is like a badge for every programmer.

How and why do software engineers earn very high salaries?
I’ll go anonymous because my future boss would probably not want me to talk about this on any public platform. Additionally, I want to make sure I’m not boasting but providing a very honest answer.Let me start by answering “how”.I’m a senior in a university ranked consistently in the top 5 for computer science engineering. My GPA is very close to 3.9. I’ve only received one grade under A- on my transcript. Typically, in high ranking universities, a lot of companies come during the fall semester and try to interview and recruit a lot of students on campus. I got through in Oracle, and am receiving $111,000 a year with an effective $25,000 signing bonus (it’s actually $15,000 but I’m getting another $10,000 for relocation). This may sound like a lot (especially for someone who just graduated university), but in silicon valley, the buying power of $9,000 a month is actually very small. If you were to subtract the average rent, car insurance, food costs, etc., I would be left with a little less than $2,000 a month.Compare this to some of my friends. I know someone who’s going to Microsoft for a salary of $107,000 a year, but she’s located in Seattle. In Seattle, that same $9,000 a month translates into a lot more buying power. Someone else is going to Amazon for a similar salary, but in the Boston area. And while Boston is still expensive, it’s nothing compared to Silicon Valley. So, the answer to your “how” is to go to a top university in computer science engineering, and get a very high GPA (none of us have below a 3.5, I believe). Why would this work (not the same why in your question)? Well, from the point of view of companies, interviewing on college campuses is cheaper by a large amount. They can send 3–4 representatives and have them each interview about 8 students a day for a week. Usually, even in the smallest companies, they get about 100 students interviewed. If you think about how much it costs, normally, to interview 100 people (flying them in, giving them a hotel room, feeding them, etc.), it cuts the recruiting costs into just a fraction. Also, it’s a much safer bet to assume that a random student with >3.5 GPA in a top university would be a better software engineer than another random student from a non-Ivy league university or community college. I hope that answers how one gets a high starting salary as a software engineer.Let’s talk about “why” we get high salaries. Why do we deserve all that money?Well, it’s hard, in high demand, and, quite frankly, the companies also have a lot of money to throw around. Software engineering is fucking hard. Now, I’m not talking about your random bozo who knows how to write in HTML and Java as his entire skillset. I’m talking about true software engineers. These are problem solvers, who know how to think in algorithms, can easily perform an intuitive run-time analysis to pick an approach, can adapt and (have actually) implement(ed) a lot of complicated algorithms in courses, actually know what an operating system is and does, understands computer architecture to understand the limits and possibilities of code, and even understands higher level programming. In this day and age, almost any random kid can whip up a poker game in Java in a couple hours. But it’s actually hard to find someone who’s a true problem solver, instead of a coding monkey. As other answers have mentioned, there is a notable difference between the median and mean salary. This is because the top and pure problem solvers (the rare kind) get a high salary while people who are hired as coding monkeys make almost minimum wage.I’m assuming you wanted a more helpful “how”. Maybe you don’t have the money to apply to universities, or you don’t think it’s worth your time to go back. Well, for starters, you have to prove that you’re a problem solver. If your GitHub profile is full of bullshit projects like a text poker game, or tic tac toe, you will only get hired as a coding monkey. If you want to truly impress a recruiter as a problem solver, do solo projects based on complicated algorithms, operating systems, or computer architecture. For algorithms, try something simple like maximum network flow in a graph. For operating systems, try to implement a simulation of a MMU. For computer architecture, try designing a very simple processor with only logic gates (use a memory library because those are actually impossible to design from scratch and not as important). For each of these projects, write a small blog about it. Mastery of said topics indicate a much deeper and richer understanding of computers and coding in general, that will place you into the small club of real software engineers.Edit: A lot of people seem to misunderstand the intention behind my answer. I’ve interpreted the question as “why do software engineers earn a lot and how do I become one?”. I’m describing two ways to increase your marketability in the job market. Yes, I realize there may not be a strong correlation between having degrees and being useful in the industry itself. But I’m assuming that the OP and anyone else interested in the answers to this question have no experience or knowledge in this field and are starting at square zero. I gave two paths which, while arduous and not quick, have a very high chance of successfully landing a job as a software engineer. It’s not really appropriate to say “well I know people with tons of experience who were actually great software engineers”.

Are you happy with what you do for a living?
No! Not at all would be more appropriate.I am working in a small Ed-Tech Startup basically like BYJU'S. I enjoyed my first few months of stay here but now it feels like what I enjoyed was the comfort zone that used to prevail earlier. Things have changed and things weren’t beautiful earlier either.1.Strict Working HoursThere was no such thing as strict working hours when I joined but now we are getting “Bio-metric Door Lock with Attendance tracking” system installed as I write this answer. Along with this, we got a mail stating that“Instead of 9 hours daily, each one of you is expected to complete a total of 54 Hours per week. This will allows you flexibility to address personal tas...” (-_-) 54 Hours a week and then I can do my personal stuff…2.Factory SystemWork From Home is just a thing that does not exist here anymore. I was the only person in the entire office who used this privilege earlier until the CEO realized this. I was told that because of me everyone might start asking for WFH which is a change not meant to be brought and I had to stop.Of course I would have stopped because the previous work from home I took were paid, like a leave. I completed a lot of work to create a impression that by working from home at times productivity can be increased but at the end what I got was salary deduction.3.Job SecurityI was given strict instruction to stop taking any unplanned leave or WFH else I might end up getting fired. This was not the first time, after completing my first month when my boss was not happy with my work he threatened to fire right away. Job Security is non-existent in all startups I guess and I accept it like a bitter truth.3.Work-Life BalanceIt is something I am still trying to figure out. With the modern day slavery of working on Saturdays I have lost my passion for gaming, lost my appetite, lost my precious sleep and most importantly I am still single at 25. How am I suppose to get a girlfriend if I am busy finishing the damn work with tight deadlines for which I am paid in such a way that if I need to buy a trimmer I prefer going to the salon as it is cheap.4.Working hours over WorkThe management wants robots over an employee who come and sit in the office for 9 hours and if the salary is not on time they should not raise any voice. A startup where get together or parties doesn’t exist. Leaves are something I don’t want to discuss. If I choose to work hard today and complete my work for next 3 days. I would still be required to come and spend those 9 hours sitting in my chair just for the sake of working hours. The company really demands the presence of employee over the work done.5.Boring WorkMy work is not at all challenging for me, which makes me even sadder. I am not learning anything new. A major part of my job includes guiding the graphic designing team in making animated videos related to various JEE topics, which is not a big thing for someone who cracked it two times. After studying Mathematics and Computing for 5 years I am now working as Content Manager of Chemistry department. People in my team sometimes make fun of me by saying “See Essan has completed M.Tech in Mathematics from IIT and is now working in Chemistry department.” (-_-)I feel like my Education and Degree is not being put to proper use. I feel like I got stuck in wrong place. I feel like being cheated. I feel like after finishing this answer I should resign and leave this office right now but then an inner voice speaks “Essan!! Controllllll……” and I calm down.Financial Independence is something I prefer over being jobless…Depending on my fathers hard earned money to fulfill the bread and butter I need is something against my rules. My father has selflessly spent every single dime he earned in fulfilling the needs of family and I cant ask more.He is about to retire in a couple of years and doesn’t even own a roof. I guess one day I…

What is it like to work in Accenture?
Depends on 2 things :1. Division2.Region of workDivison: Consulting/Technology/Outsourcing/Corporate Functions. Consulting: These guys are well paid, workload may be high but all great perks (AmEx cards, work from home, flexible work, reimbursements)are available to them, they earn respect from everyone-from HRs to CXOs. They bring work for other two divisions, that makes their role vital. They work with top brass people including CXOs of various companies. This division is reserved for MBA grads from top B-schools.I had the chance of meeting an executive from this division in our project and he threw us a party that billed him Rs.45,000 for 10 people! He didn’t mind that one bit.Technology: This where I worked. Major workforce(>100,000 employees) is present here and hence your growth is sluggish. If you get in a good project or are trained in skill of your interest(Java/C++/BI/Cloud) then you will always be happy with work. Most B.E./BSc/MCA graduates get hired for this divison. If in a hectic(not bad)project, you will regret joining it. HRs and managers do not value you much as your just another resource. Some projects have shift work and others have to work till your lead permits you to go home. Accenture hires rampantly for this division. I’ve known people who can write/speak fluent English being hired.Outsourcing: They do either call-centre job or data analytics work. Again some have shift work with cab-service available for free. Hiring criteria is not fixed, It’s either for engineers,MBA(worthless B-schools) or Executive MBA(from IIMs). Working condition depends on the client.Corporate Functions: This divison performs non-core functions of the company from finance, security,HR services etc. Their job is pretty monotonous like recruiting ,explaining employement terms, salaries, managing attrition and growth is slower than a snail. At the end someone has to do such a job. On signNowing higher echelon, you can start designing policies with your peers that improve the company outook.Region:In India the work in Technology division is pretty decent. Although its degrading due to poor quality of hires. 9-hrs/day mandatory work rule seems senseless. People are mostly frustrated about what they are doing with their lives when they see their schoolmates/collegemates getting ahead in other comapnies. In US,UK its 8-hrs/day work for locals and they always have a good time at work. Their life seems pretty chilled and happy going.CONS:A lot execs from the Indian IT companies has moved here and turned it stingy. Free coke, unlimited stationery has been stopped. Variable pay calculation is no more transparent. Your supervisor decides how much variable you are eligible for as per his/her wish. Hot skills list is made secret.Nobody can know which skill is new in the market-Smart tactic.PROS:Clean offices, latest PCs/laptops,good cafeteria food and transport services are few things plausible about it as a workplace.Opinions may differ from person to person but in my opinion the place is has turned from VERY GOOD to OKAYish.

What are the key differences between Segment and mParticle?
What are the key differences between segment.io and mParticle? You are right, we are limited to mobile. We believe that this focus enables us to be experts. We aren't all things to all people nor do we claim to be. We are a team of developers and executives that reinvented the way marketers and publishers use data back in 2009. We're taking many of those lessons learned and bringing them to native apps. Back then, many of the DMPs and tag management companies started off as a data hub. They quickly learned that customers expect and need more from their data custodian. mParticle is working hard to educate app owners to think beyond last centuries’ te...
