How do i industry sign banking minnesota presentation later
all right guys now my city project is on Minneapolis Minnesota now okay first impressions now I don't know about you guys but why when I think in Minneapolis Minnesota my early impressions were you know it's cold dark dreary snowy you know in general you know it difficult place to live you know probably good ice fishing good hunting for those who you know engage that kind of thing but that was that was basically my early impression of Minneapolis basically yeah it's hard for me it was hard for me to believe email it was a bit very very basic impression of the city uh certainly outdated and everything now the city does have cold snowy winter so that's not entirely wrong but it is a temperate it is a temperate climate and does have warms you know warm summers and despite its climate you know the city still thrives now the population of Minneapolis up the population you know the city of Minneapolis you know according to 2010 census is roughly three hundred eighty two thousand five hundred seventy eight people that's the city of Minneapolis by itself the population of Minneapolis Metro is roughly three and a half million little over two and half million people big games that nicknames many nicknames of Minneapolis uh some people call the city of lakes Mill City Minnie Apple obviously a lot of people call the Twin Cities I know I'm familiar with that term usually when they talk about you know way to talk about you know whether it's you know events in Minneapolis they say hey you know Twin Cities because obviously Minneapolis and st. Paul right next to right next to each other not the history Minneapolis obviously has a complex history before before the city itself existed it used to be a residence of the of the Dakota Sioux tribe later the French start to come in they started trading with the Dakota Sioux tribe mostly fur trading you know during the 16 17 1800 s when it was really popular later on European Americans started coming in and establishing trade relations outposts there was a four port created there eventually the city evolved into a center for establishing hydroelectric power they created lumber and flour mill industries there it's early days it's industries mostly revolved around the flower mammals obviously as a city grew new industries took hold today the city is home to multiple fortune 500 companies now the growth in declined at meeting at Minneapolis like many big cities back east it's gone through its periods of decline clearly the decline the growth and decline of Minneapolis didn't reach that of like say Detroit or Cleveland Minneapolis has gone through you know it in 1950 the population was five hundred twenty one thousand seven hundred eighteen people that was its peak population by 1970 the population was down to 430 four thousand four hundred and it's recently 2010 it was down to three and a little over three hundred eighty two thousand so it has declined and again a lot of this is due to trends of urbanization and urban sprawl decentralization people moving towards the suburbs that's where a lot of the population went recently the population is rebounding the 2015 estimates showed it to be about far four hundred ten thousand nine hundred thirty nine people now the economic picture of Minneapolis Minneapolis is home to a diverse local economy as I said before there's five fortune 500 companies they include Target Ameriprise Financial US Bank Corp Xcel Energy and Trident financial the major drivers of the local economy or commerce finance rail and drinking services along with healthcare industry diverse economy locally far cry from that of say Detroit or Flint Michigan that are basically one industry count went up you know they were basically thriving around the auto industry as I said before superb urban sprawl is a problem in many in Minneapolis the picture to the right right there really illustrates how spread out things are urban sprawl has been a problem there the city place 38 out of 83 rate metro areas in terms of sprawl the city has been working recently to mitigate the sprawl through policies in the increasing public transportation I know they're trying to revamp the rail the metro line metro rail line through there they're there focusing more on smart growth making it more walkable core bicycle passages and improved public transportation now urban sociology in Minneapolis Minneapolis home to numerous museum sports stadiums and robust park system's burgeoning culture just distant name a few of these places the Minneapolis Institute of Art is a big one u.s. Bank Stadium got the go three theater and theater worth Park Minneapolis is obviously home to the Minnesota Vikings obviously I'm a big football fan so I'm well aware that also the Minnesota timber Timberwolves in the Minnesota Twins as far as I know I'm not a big baseball fan but I know that they were there I think as far as I know they're still there now it comes to urban sociology one of the big issues with the city is it does have it has much more to do to improve its accessibility for its elderly population they have hard times getting around there and things aren't as accessible they could be now the urban geography of Minneapolis it's obviously located up north you know roughly southeast south central Minnesota but it's up up right up there close to Canada there's numerous bodies of water obviously you know the state of Minnesota the land of 10,000 lakes lots of lake austin rivers those bodies of freshwater you know are obviously huge you know have been huge economic sort economic and energy sources for this city hannah state and it's obviously it's said well it still uses a hydroelectric power quite heavily in its earlier years obviously that hydroelectric power helped collards flour and sawmills they also provided a source of commodities and income it has a closed location in canada which provides a close trade partner and some circle is considered a southern province of canada now the critics of minneapolis up some issues i found you know going through and look at some current modern-day issues in minneapolis one thing i noticed was the city itself was pasting a potential cut in the city's operating budget the governor and state legislature haggling over you know what what spend it on and so on so forth it's all the little details protesting in the city hasn't been as bad at some cities like Baltimore Furguson they haven't really had any major race issues of late I think there was then a lot of big race race issues or anything like that I like their ad in the back east the one of the recent protests I found was a bear skin protest by females in the downtown city park women wanted the ability to bear skin as they played like you know how a man would walk around their shirts off women wanted to be able to basically go around with less clothing on now when it comes to comparing boys in Minneapolis uh the differences are pretty stark Boise maintain the population of roughly two hundred twenty-three thousand so nearly a quarter of a million people in that just Boise City Minneapolis by itself just Minneapolis City has an estimated population of over four hundred thirteen thousand as of 2016 estimates so it's really if still a difference of nearly two hundred thousand people's the two cities by themselves when it goes to the metro population it's even more stark Boise metros roughly six hundred sixty four thousand Minneapolis metro is more than three and a half million strong so not even close Kamini apples is home to five fortune 500 companies Boise is home to micron technologies Albertsons Winkle foods and JR Simplot these are mostly local and regionally based companies not not near the clock the Fortune 500 companies have in Minneapolis now social stratification uh Minneapolis like all major cities at an ongoing issue with his local homeless population it's number to be roughly three thousand people over the years they have attempts to mitigate this problem as most big cities have it's included building new shelters among other policies but they've been frustrated by the still increasing almost population uh like most big cities Minneapolis has higher inequality compared to other areas of the country but when you compare it to most other cities on the map to the right it's not as bad as some areas like say Atlanta Miami Boston San Francisco but it's still up there in conclusion uh let me be honest here minute you know obviously I went in with my assumptions about Minneapolis cold dark you know what what what really is there to do to outside of you know ice fishing or you know you know just skiing something like that you know really it is it is actually a it is a dynamic beautiful city it's rich in diversity full of life economically dynamic very diverse it's certainly a city that I would consider visiting on a vacation it would be interesting to see to see the you know see all the various areas of town the parks the museums and so on uh you know as you can see with some of the pictures I showed the city it's really quite beautiful it's good ups got a lot of skyscrapers obviously the city has had its issues its had successes but if a lot of cities like Jacksonville I noticed and some reports I've read Jacksonville looks to Minneapolis as a example of what to do when it comes to urban renewal because Minneapolis is you know like most big cities has been trying to revitalize their downtown area yeah really but it is a beautiful city I like I said I would consider going on vacation there and in closing this that I just want to say thank you to all you guys for listening to my presentation pretty much my work side pretty much everything I got off Wikipedia most of us backed up by both independent sources outside the website and anyway I want to say thank you and good luck to all you guys on your presentation
