hey guys if you're watching this video I'm guessing you already what's this other video of mine in which I present to you 10 tips the crusher invest in banking interviews if you haven't watched that one make sure to watch it later let's not shift our attention to this video in which I'll be walking you through exactly how you answer that one question that you asked in every single investment banking or finance interview and not just in a formal type of interview but also in casual informational interviews and that question is tell me about yourself or to put it another way walk me through your background and experiences if you is this question you really make a great first impression with your interviewer and a great first impression is honestly half the interview battle 1 that's where this question is so important besides if your interview gets off to a flying start then it gives you so much more confidence going into the rest of the interview so when you're answering this question what you want to do is tell the interviewer away captivating story that's about 1 to 2 minutes long that really demonstrates to the interviewer that you had a unique and interesting set of experiences and that the reason as to why you're interviewing for that specific role makes complete logical sense so when you're crafting your story look at everything that you've done up until that point and then cherry-pick those experiences to talk about that made your journey or your reason to interview for that specific role seem like a logical one in other words even if you had absolutely no idea two years back that Investment Banking is what you wanted to do try connecting the relevant box looking backwards to make a story flow and seem like a very logical progression of steps that you've taken or decisions that you've made over the years in order to make things crystal clear I'll walk you through the exact story that I used to tell interviewers and every time we should tell this story more often than not the interviewer would tell me that they thought my story was extremely unique one that made sense and they could clearly tell that I had worked really hard for this and I really wanted it so my story went something like this I'm originally from Calcutta in India and came to the US for the first time in 2011 to study Industrial Engineering at Georgia Tech it was during the summer of 2014 when I was interning with PwC as a financial services consultant in New York City there got really intrigued and captivated by how the world of finance works and so I went back to college the following semester took a few finance classes and joined the investment Committee on campus which is the nation's largest student-run philanthropic endowment fund with the value of more than 1.3 million I did really well in the committee came in as an analyst got promoted his sector head and then eventually went on to head the committee as well I have one more summer left before graduating and so I decided to intern with a bulge bracket Bank virtue gave me an offer I interned with them and then they gave me an offer to come back to them full time as well but as someone who's young someone who's in his early 20s someone who's very ambitious and driven I'd rather be working in New York City which is the epicenter finance and be working at Goldman Sachs which is where the best in the business work and which is where my career growth would be accelerated greatly so that concludes my story I hope you enjoyed it so see despite coming from a non-target school and being an engineer and having a background there on paper seems not quite tailor-made for investment banking or still able to make a pretty compelling case just through good storytelling so that's all for this video don't forget to watch my other video on investment banking do's and don'ts because that's one that you certainly do not want to miss out on in fact we should miss out of any of my upcoming content so please hit the subscribe button along with the bell icon next to it for clean crisp valuable power-packed content coming your way every single week I promise that my channel will help you become the-best-version-of-yourself keep crushing it never settle until next time Cheers
