How can I find and delete files from the Mac OS X command line using regular expressions?
First, some important background information:There are two find implementations available in OS X: the native BSD one in /usr/bin/find and the GNU one that may have been installed by someone else. You're running the latter if find --help spits out a help message that ends in gnu.org.GNU find is largely a superset of BSD find; everything below should apply to both variants. There are three basic path specifier options:-name
specifies a basename search (roughly speaking, you're looking at the last component of pathnames) against a shell glob pattern (the kind you'd use with ls et al)-wholename (also called -path in traditional BSD) specifies a full path search against a shell glob pattern-regex specifies a full path search against a regular expressionNote that there's no option to do a basename search against a regular expression. (I have no idea why this function was omitted.)Then there are the variants on the basic specifiers; the only one common to both GNU and BSD is -i which selects case-insensitive matching (so -iname, -iwholename and -iregex).Now let's look at what each of your find invocations actually does (assuming you're in your home directory each time). First, the ones that work:1. $ find . -name "[0-9]*"finds all paths under your home directory whose last component starts with a digit2. $ find . -name "*[0-9]*"finds all paths under your home directory whose last component contains a digitNow, the ones that don't:3. $ find . -name "^[0-9]*" # (do the anchor characters ^ and $ work?)finds all paths under your home directory whose last component starts with a caret, followed by a digit. Since you used -name, shell globbing is done instead of regex matching.4. $ find . -name "[0-9]$"finds all paths under your home directory whose last component has only two characters: the first must be a digit, and the second must be a dollar sign5. $ find . -name "./desktop/[0-9]*" -regex # returns "regex requires additional arguments" errorfinds all paths under your home directory: whose last component is literally ./desktop/, followed by a digit, followed zero or more characters, andwhose full path matches...well, you didn't specify a regex pattern, hence the errorEven if you'd specified an argument to the -regex option, your command still wouldn't return anything, as the -name test always fails (slashes are not legal in a filename).6. $ find . -name [0-9]finds all paths under your home directory whose last component has only one character - a digit7. $ find . -name ^[0-9]$ finds all paths under your home directory whose last component has only three characters - a caret, followed by a digit, followed by a dollar sign8. $ find . -name "./desktop/[0-9]*" (a subset of [5] - again, filenames can't have slashes)9. $ find ~/desktop/ -name '.*/[0-9]*' -regex -print (a superset of [5] - now your regex pattern is the literal string -print)10. $ find ~/desktop -name "^4534" -print finds all paths under your desktop folder whose name is literally ^4534 (the -print is redundant)11. $ find . -type f -name -regex "\d+" finds all files under your home directory and a very weird directory called \d+ whose last component is the literal string -regex12. $ find . -type f -name -regex "^[0-9]\.\w+" (similar to [11], except the "weird directory" got even weirder)13. $ find -E . -type f -name '[0-9]' finds all files under your home directory whose names are literally one digit (the -E to select extended regular expressions doesn't do anything useful here)Finally, to achieve what you want - match "files whose names consist entirely of digits and the PDF extension":$ find -E . -type f -iregex ".*/[0-9]+\.pdf"finds all files under your home directory whose filename component consists of one or more digits and the literal string .pdf. This search will be done in a case-insensitive fashion, and with extended regular expressions to enable the + quantifier. -
Where do I find beautiful and professional ebook templates for Power Point?
Thanks for answering my question, if you have an existing PowerPoint presentation that needs to be converted to ebook format - see my answer below, with step-by-step instructions in the second half. Or if you consider creating an ebook in PowerPoint - in this case my answer would have been a lot shorter “Do not do this, if you intend to stay sane.” You are searching for a way to convert a PowerPoint presentation to an ebook. If you use Google to search for such a solution, you can have a a good laugh - because most people seem to think that PDF qualifies as an “ebook”. So, they suggest to just “export it to a PDF format from PowerPoint - tadaa!” Anyone who ever tried to read PDF documents on ebooks readers, though, would find this an absurd idea. Ebook readers were not made for reading PDFs, and although some readers support PDF documents, they do a poor job of displaying anything that is even remotely similar to the original presentation. One solution that does not work: Unreadable content, because each PowerPoint page was converted to an image. After creating a snapshot of each page, you have one image per page in the reader, and you cannot read any of the words. Anything but the header is too small and pixelated. So, you zoom in, and now you have to scroll from the top left of the image to the bottom right, in order to read the page. Ebook readers have such a bad resolution that you have to zoom in quite drastically for reading most of the text. It feels like being forced to read a newspaper with a magnifying glass. OK, so, now that we know that exporting each page as an image is no solution, what other problems turn up, if you read a PDF- or even worse, a PDF that was converted. say, to Kindle format on an ebook reader? Unreadable content, because PDF is an abhorrently bad file format. Ask anyone who ever had to write software that reads the content of a PDF file. I only ever got any one of two reactions from programmers who were forced to do this: They either spin a long tale, and both of you will feel sad at the end, or they refuse to comment and leave. Remember that your ebook reader is made of software. Software that was created by one of these developers. Software that desperately tries to make any sense of the PDF’s content, but finally throws its hands up and displays something. Did you ever want to read an ebook where you need to guess which partial sentences belong together? Imagine your original page content to be chopped into pieces, here a quarter of a sentence from the main text, there half a sentence from an image caption, all re-arranged randomly, with the images sprinkled in somewhere. It looks like the newspaper collage of a five-year-old. There is a very good reason why instructions on the Internet “how to easily convert PowerPoint to an ebook” only shows the steps involved, and never the result: If the original presentation was any more complicated than one long text, or a list of text, the result will be the newspaper collage. — Start of instructions — You can try this, to get a fast idea how your presentation would look like in ebook format: The “Well, it could work, could not it?” approach: 1. Install a tiny program called Amazon.com: Send to Kindle [ https://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle ] on your computer. When asked, use your standard Amazon account login. 2. In PowerPoint, choose menu option “File” → “Save as signNow PDF”, and thus create a PDF from the presentation. You may want to take a look at the PDF with signNow, so that you see: It looks actually like the presentation. (Cherish this moment, as it probably will not return, later down the line.) 3. On Windows: Right-click the PDF file in Windows Explorer, choose “Send to Kindle”, and tell the program what should be the name of the document in your Kindle Library, and the author. Upload it. 4. On Mac: Ctrl-click the PDF file in the Finder, choose “Open with …”, then “Send to Kindle”, and tell the program what should be the name of the document in your Kindle Library, and the author. Upload it. 5. Wait a few minutes for Amazon’s servers doing their job. 6. Go to Amazon Kindle: Welcome [ https://kindle.amazon.com/ ]. At the top right, you should see “Hello, Guest”. 7. Hover with the mouse above “Guest” and choose “Sign in”. 8. Sign in with your standard Amazon account. Now the top right reads “Hello, (your first name)” 9. Hover with the mouse above “(your first name)” and choose “Manage Your Content and Devices”. Sign in again. 10. The next page lists your ebooks, and whatever you uploaded with “Send to Kindle”. If your PDF upload was already processed, it should be at the top of the list. 11. Clock the left-most box that is left of your PDF’s title. Now orange buttons above the list have become active. Choose the “Deliver” button 12. Now a big box pops up, showing a list of your Kindle devices, let us say, your Kindle Paperwhite, your PC and your Smartphone. 13. Choose all of the devices, then click the “Deliver” button in the big box. 14. A few minutes later, check your Kindle devices; all should have received the PDF file. If not yet, force a Sync. If still not, you probably have “Show only ebooks” activated on the device. Instead, “Show all documents”. 15. Open your PDF document on all devices. 16. Check all pages carefully, on all devices. 17. Option A: Rejoice, because it looks just like the the original presentation. 18. Option B: Some pages look OK. some look scrambled, like a newspaper collage. So, we need to convert the PDF to a Kindle ebook file. OK, now we get serious, and instead of creating just a PDF file, we create a real Kindle ebook: Repeat the steps above, but this time, an additional few steps are needed: 1. Install the software calibre - E-book management [ https://calibre-ebook.com/ ] on your computer. 2. After creating the PDF in the steps above, but before uploading the file with “Send to Kindle”, you create a Kindle ebook file with Calibre, from the PDF. 3. Here is a video instruction how to install Calibre, and how to create a Kindle file from a PDF: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fu8JmODC64 1. Make sure you choose “MOBI” in the drop-down list at the top right, when he talks at 0:46 about the output file. mobi is the native file format for Kindle. 2. Have Calibre create the mobi file. 3. Remember that I asked you to follow the 18 steps above? Only this time you right-click / ctrl-click on the mobi file, instead of the PDF. 4. This will upload the mobi file to your Kindle cloud. 5. Once you see that the upload was successful, and find your new ebook in the list of your documents on Amazon Kindle: Welcome [ https://kindle.amazon.com/ ], go ahead and deliver the ebook-that-once-was-a-PDF-which-once-was-a-PowerPoint-presentation to all of your devices. 6. Again, check all pages of all devices, if they actually look exactly like the presentation. 7. Hopefully, repeat step 17 above - rejoice! 8. Or swear that you will never again try to create a Kindle ebook in PowerPoint, and give up on the idea to convert a PowerPoint presentation to a Kindle ebook. One last option, if the conversion failed: 1. Copy-and-paste the content from PowerPoint to Word. Re-create the presentation in Word, using the most primitive Word functions - no advanced formatting, images on a separate line. Only do this for one page first, as a complex Word page may convert as badly to Kindle as PowerPoint. Choose the most complicated page you have in the presentation. Create a PDF from within Word, convert the PDF to mobi with Calibre, as above, compare the results on the reader to your original document. Happy? Re-create the rest of the pages. Congratulations, you made it! 2. Unhappy with the results, because the Kindle ebook on the reader looks still horrible? Either study the art of ebook creation, or look for a professional to do it for you.

What are some websites/apps to enhance productivity and skill sets?
What are some of the websites/apps to enhance productivity and skillsets? Are you one that works too many hours? They probably don’t pay you by the hour, do they? More about results than time, right? Certainly all three are a yes answer for me. And I definitely like to find ways to reduce time on simple, mundane tasks. So my favorite productivity apps add a great deal to making my work life easier.I love to read, learn, and try new things. Like new apps for my smart phone and iPad. Often, I’ll see something that I want to try, save, and connect with other new apps I am using. Ideas that come from previously unconnected planes of thought, as Mootee states. There a...

How can I implement machine learning algorithms in a web application?
From your question I inferred you are talking about online/web-based applications. Obviously there are other applications, like standalone medical devices, etc. that have a different story. Assuming that, let's divide the problem into four components:1- You need a database. Your choice depends on different aspects but most important thing is size and speed of your data. For small sized problems a regular RDBMS will do the job.2- You need a component to build dynamic HTML pages. A typical web programming language like PHP will do that job. Your dynamics HTML component manages communication with the database on front end. 3- You need a beautiful and easy to use front-end. The skills required are CSS, Javascript, and plain HTML. This component communicates to (and partially is generated by) component 2.4- Final component is your ML engine. You can write it in any language but performance and type of application are the most considerations. For large distributed applications your choice comes down to Hadoop or Spark ecosystems. For mid-size data sets you can use Java and C++. If you have a small size data, [R] and MATLAB can be used. Your ML-engine might communicate with the database directly (usually if it's a large application or involves online learning) or might not (if you have another mechanism to periodically extract data and update your ML-engine). The results of the ML-engine is the feed for your 2nd component engine. Something among a typical relational database, a text file, or JSON file is common here.As you can see different skills are involved for a production type web-based ML application. In enterprise level applications, first component is performed by a data engineer, second one by a software (web) developer, third one by a graphic designer (UI engineer), and last one is the work of a data scientist.

Is it necessary to post resume on job portal?
yes and here it is :To learn more about the many forms of resumes used online, see our accompanying article, Your E-resume’s File Format Aligns with its Delivery Method. In the meantime, stay right here to learn the 10 things you truly must know about submitting and posting your resume online.1. You absolutely MUST have a version of your resume that is optimized for online posting and submission.A job-seeker simply cannot succeed these days with just the traditional formatted resume intended to be printed out as a visually pleasing marketing piece. The formatted “print” resume is still important, but it can no longer be the only resume tool in your kit.More than 90 percent of employers place resumes directly into searchable databases and an equal percentage of employers prefer to receive resumes by e-mail. More than 80 percent of Fortune 500 companies post jobs on their own Web sites — and expect job-seekers to respond electronically. Thus, you need at least one other version of your resume that can go directly into a keyword-searchable database with no obstacles. Formatting that needs to be removed before the resume can be placed in a database is an example of such an obstacle.Sending your resume in text-based format directly in the body of an e-mail message removes all barriers to an employer’s placing your resume right into a searchable databases. Some employers still prefer the formatted document version of your resume attached to an e-mail message (so they have the option to print it out, for example), while others won’t open attachments because of concerns about viruses and incompatibilities among word-processing programs. The formatted “print” resume is still vital because the employer may wish to visually review your resume, especially once the database search has narrowed down the candidates, and the formatted, print version will be more reader-friendly than the text-based version. You’ll also want to have a print version of your resume on hand for networking, to take to interviews and career fairs and for the rare occasions when employers request resumes in old-school ways — by mail or fax.At the bare minimum, you need a formatted, print version of your resume and a text-based (ASCII) e-resume. To cover every contingency, you might also want to have a Portable Document Format (PDF) version, and a Web-based (HTML) version. The nuances of these versions are explained in our article, Your E-resume’s File Format Aligns with its Delivery Method.2. Your resume must be loaded with keywords.Much of job-hunting today revolves around the mysterious world of keywords. Employers’ dependence on keywords to find the job candidates they want to interview has come about in recent years because of technology. Inundated by resumes from job-seekers, employers have increasingly relied on placing resumes in keyword-searchable databases, and using software to search those databases for specific keywords that relate to job vacancies. Most Fortune 1000 companies, in fact, and many smaller companies now use these technologies. In addition, most employers search the databases of third-party job-posting and resume-posting boards on the Internet. The bottom line is that if you apply for a job with a company that searches databases for keywords, and your resume doesn’t have the keywords the company seeks for the person who fills that job, you are pretty much out of luck. Read more about the importance of keywords in our article Tapping the Power of Keywords to Enhance Your Resume’s Effectiveness and how you can identify the best keywords in Resources for Identifying Keywords and Researching Keywords in Employment Ads. Consider using our Resume Keywords Worksheet.3. Your resume must be accomplishments-driven.Accomplishments are the points that really help sell you to an employer — much more so than everyday job duties. In fact, there’s a direct relationship between keywords and accomplishments in that keywords can be tied to accomplishments rather than job duties, so a good way to make the leap from keyword to a nice, contextual bullet point is to take each keyword you’ve identified as critical to the job and list an accomplishment that tells how you’ve used the skill represented by that keyword. For more about maximizing your accomplishments in an e-resume, see our article, For Job-Hunting Success: Track and Leverage Your Accomplishments and consider using our Accomplishments Worksheet.4. Technically speaking, a resume for online posting and submission is not too difficult to create. It’s surprisingly easy to create an e-resume once you get the hang of it. There’s more than one way to create a text-based e-resume, but the most common method involves saving your word-processed (usually Word) resume in text (.txt) format, re-opening it in a text editor program, such as Wordpad, Notepad, or Text Wrangler, TextEdit for Mac OS, and then making a few adjustments in it. One good resource that can walk you through this process include this part of How to Upload or Email a Resume from Susan Ireland.Even a Web-based HTML resume is not that hard to craft. Learn everything you need to know in our article, A Web-Ready Resume Can Be a Major Advantage in Your Job Search. For basics on creating other forms of e-resumes, such PDF, see our article, Your E-Resume’s File Format Aligns with its Delivery Method.5. Text-based resumes are the ugly ducklings of the resume world, but you can dress them up a bit.Job-seekers and resume writers have strived for years to develop ways to make resumes visually appealing and graphically interesting — through font choices, bold and italic type, rule lines, bullets, centering, indents, and more — only to have all that formatting thrown out the window in the e-resume world. Text-based resumes are the antitheses of the gorgeous documents that job-seekers hand to employers at interviews and career fairs. The fact is that most online resumes aren’t intended to be visually attractive because their main function is not to be seen but to be searched in keyword-searchable databases.Still, they may be seen at some point. Employers may see the resume you’ve posted on an online job board. Their primary interest is whether the content of your resume (indicated largely by keywords) shows you to be qualified for the opening you’ve applied for and/or for which the employer is searching the database. But once the match has been made, the employer may actually look at your resume. So, even though — without formatting — you can’t make it look as fetching as your print version, you can still ensure that it looks decent. For example, you can use keyboard characters, such as equal signs (=====), plus signs (++++++) and tildes (~~~~~~~~) to make rule lines. You can use asterisks (*****), hyphens (—–), lower-case letter o’s (ooooo), and carats (>>>>>) to make bullets. You can use UPPER CASE for emphasis in headings. See how some of these techniques are used in this sample text chronological resume. Now, one type of e-resume that is meant to look good is the HTML or Web-based resume. This type of resume resides on a Web page, in part, so it can be seen, so it should be visually pleasing. While it’s not too difficult to make an HTML resume look attractive, the more you know about Web design, the better you can make the resume look. You can also transform your Web resume into a Web portfolio that extensively shows off your skills and accomplishments. If you’re not confident of your skills, you might want to enlist a Web designer or resume writer in this process. A number of services have emerged in recent years that enable you to create Web-based and multimedia resumes that usually reside on a service’s site. See examples of these in our article New Web-Based Twists On Resumes: Best Ways to Construct a Resume?Check out these samples of Web-based resumes.6. Text resumes are highly versatile.Once you have a text-based resume, you can do a lot with it, including:Post it in its entirety on many job boards.Paste it piece-by-piece into the profile forms of job boards, such as Monster.com, that have a rigid setup and don’t allow resumes to be posted as is.Paste it into the body of an e-mail and send it to employers.Convert it to a Web-based HTML resume.7. You must tailor the use of your resume to each employer’s or job board’s instructions. As you might have guessed from what you’ve read so far in this article, there is no universally accepted way to submit your e-resume to an employer. Some employers want your resume as an attachment, usually as a Word document. Others want your resume as text pasted into the body of an e-mail message. Still others want you to paste your resume into an online form.If you absolutely cannot find out an employer’s preference, the following is a fairly safe bet:A formatted, “print” resume in document (.doc because some older versions of Word cannot open .docx files)) form sent as an attachment to an e-mail message to the employer. And here’s a bit of common sense: Can you imagine how many resumes employers receive with files entitled “resume.doc”? Use your name as part of the file name for your resume. Example: JaySmithResume.doc.A text-based e-resume stripped of most formatting and pasted directly into the same e-mail message into which your print resume is attached. Since the employer has this text-based resume, he or she can choose whether or not to open the attached version, based on compatibility, virus protection, and company policy on opening attachments. For a truly complete e-mailable, electronic package, add a text-based cover letter stripped of formatting and pasted directly into the same e-mail message into which your print resume is attached. Pat Kendall and Susan Whitcomb note in a book about online resumes that your cover letter can contain verbiage that points out the options you’re providing: “I have attached an MS Word version of my resume, as well as pasted a plain-text version below. (If the plain-text version is sufficient for your database, it is not necessary to download the formatted attachment.)”The same lack of universality goes for job boards. Some enable you to paste your resume into a form in any format, but the board automatically converts it to text. Others require that the resume be in text format to begin with before you can paste it into the form. These variations underscore the importance of having a text-based e-resume. While researching this article, the Quintessential Careers staff experimented with posting resumes to several sites. We learned that a text-based e-resume is not only vital for boards with a text-resume requirement — but also extremely helpful when the boards convert any resume to text. Just because a job board turns your resume into text doesn’t mean it will look decent; it’s better to have a text resume to begin with so you know it will look appropriate when pasted in.Also note that some job boards/employers limit the number of words or the size of the file that you can paste into any one field.8. Take advantage of job-board features to protect yourself and get the most out of posting your e-resume on the boards. Most reputable job boards have features that enable you to protect your own privacy and confidentiality, control who sees your resume, mask the identity if your current employer (so your employer doesn’t know you’re looking), and easily edit and delete your resume or change it from active to inactive. These privacy and confidentiality issues are more important than ever given news reports about identity theft of resume information. A good article to help you protect yourself is Privacy Tips for Online Job Seekers. Many boards also enable you to create multiple profiles for yourself so you can look for various types of jobs. Some permit you to submit a list of your top skills. Resume submission forms generally have questions in addition to a place to submit the actual resume. Some questions are mandatory; others are optional. When a question is optional, consider whether it is to your advantage to answer it. Answering questions about salary or location requirements, for example, may be too limiting.9. A few finishing touches can increase your e-resume’s effectiveness. Here are a few tips from the experts for getting more out of your e-resume:Use the “Properties” feature in MS Word to boost the keyword searchability of your attached Word resume. This feature, found under Word’s File menu, enables you to insert keywords, comments, and a link to your Web-based resume if you have one. You can use the “Comments” field to enter geographic and relocation preferences.A similar trick applies to using HTML commands called meta tags in creating a Web-based resume. The “description” command, for example, gives you up to 150 characters to provide a description of your document. Make sure you use words that highlight your e perience and skills. The “keywords” command gives you limited spa e to enter critical eywords. Be sure to use keywords that you think employers and recruiters might use in searching for the position you are seeking — and make sure those keywords are also listed at least once (perhaps in a “key accomplishments” section) in your resume.

How did people who have moved to Japan and brought pets find the process? Did your pets handle quarantine well?
My wife and I brought our cat into Japan, and we still talk about the process a year later. We have a lot of recommendations and advice for people getting ready to move to Japan. We moved to Japan last year, and we brought our cat with us. She’s an 18 year old rescue kitty, and a family member we love and adore. The bottom line is: You can avoid quarantine by being proactive about the process. If you want to skip all the other recommendations I have here, just search through this post for quarantine and you can ignore all the rest. Quarantine is not good. It’s stressful for humans and pets. A...
