Is the Hindu report on the Rafale deal shown by Rahul Gandhi in the press conference valid?
The Hindu report is a murder of journalistic ethics.Half-Truths are more dangerous than a lie.Half-Truths only add up to a whole lie.The Hindu presented a cropped picture of the dissent note of MoD Secretary to mislead people by avoiding inconvenient facts i.e. the response of Manohar Parrikar to the note and one paragraph which depicted what the note was about. The Hindu picture:Actual Picture (marked by red rectangles (which were cropped by The Hindu) are the response of Mr. Parrikar and a paragraph depicting the issue which note was about):Manohar Parikkar clearly says “It appears that PMO and French President's office are monitoring the progress of the issue. Para 5 seems to be an overreaction. Defence Secretary may resolve issue/matter in consultation with Principal Secretary of PMO.”[Edit] The first red rectangle in the picture mentions 'Sovereign and Bank Guarantee’ and not about pricing. The then Defence Secy G Mohan Kumar (the one who dissented) has today stated to various news outlets that his note was on sovereign guarantees and not on Rafale pricing, he further added that it was the MoD which negotiated pricing and not the PMO.[1] Negotiations also include matters other than pricing.[Edit 2] The dissenter (G Mohan) , in talks with Indian Express, cleared the air “Everything is transparent in the entire deal. There were different levels of consultations. France was initiating direct discussion with the PMO. There is nothing wrong in that. The two countries can discuss many things at various levels. We had our reservations which we raised. The deal was struck after we all fully agreed to the terms and conditions. The differences were all resolved. We signNowed an agreement with all stakeholders to go ahead with the deal.”[2]As per Air Marshal SBP Sinha, who headed Rafale negotiations from the Indian side, nobody flagged any objections to his team about any sort of ‘interference’ by ‘PMO.’[3] [4]Whose words should I trust a soldier who negotiated price or Rahul Gandhi?[Edit] The Defense Sec was not even part of the negotiation team nor he was in the chain of decision making.Air Marshal SBP Sinha had to go through Indian PMO because he or the negotiating team could not have talked to French PMO directly. It’s a normal procedure.Defense Secretary objected on some matter. Defense Minister told him to resolve the matter with PMO secretary. This is part and parcel of the process. And why on the earth will a PM not track a defense deal? Ultimately, he is the one who is accountable to people. As head of the government, it is his duty to ensure coordination between departments/ministeries to expedite the job.The note is also a classic case of bureaucratic trick to object when it is being held accountable by another department fearing exposure of its shortcomings. In fact, the parallel talks between PM Modi and French President forced Dassault to cut prices for the negotiation between the MoD and the French government. In Nuclear Deal with the USA during UPA 1, PMO had taken over the deal leading to animosity between departments. If dissent was a parameter of corruption, then Sardar Patel’s dissent on Nehru’s Pakistan and China policies would mean Nehru was bribed by Pakistan and China.Even Supreme Court had acknowledged, ‘We are satisfied that there is no occasion to really doubt the process [of Rafale deal.]’[5]This is The Hindu’s third and N. Ram’s (Chief Editor and writer of the article) second fake news against PM Modi within a month. It gives signals as to whose tunes N. Ram is dancing on.N.Ram had commenced a journal ‘Radial Review’ with P. Chidambaram and Prakash Karat in his younger days.God bless the credibility of The Hindu.Lies, Lies and more lies. Rahul Gandhi has nothing else to offer. But unfortunately for him, his lies (even those in partnership with media) don't survive even a few hours.Just a few days ago he lied taking about Rafale with Manohar Parrikar during his 5 minutes (ill-intentioned) courtesy meet with him. He tried to use a man who is fighting with a life-threatening disease for his lies.Wonder if media has guts to question Rahul Gandhi on his lies which he repeats like a kid reciting ‘Jhonny Jhonny Yes Papa…..’[Edit] A person said in the comments Parrikar signed the note on Jan 11, 2016, and India & France signed IGA on Jan 15 and Defense Secretary signed an acknowledgment of receipt on Jan 19, so the Defense Secretary didn’t have time to consult. What he missed was on Jan 15, Memorandum of Understanding to purchase jets was signed between India and France and not the final deal which was signed on September 23, 2016.So you see, there was 8 months time to consult. (Which I think was enough for inter-departmental communications unless we live in stone age.)As already mentioned in the answer, the note was regarding Sovereign Guarantee. As for that matter, the French Prime Minister wrote a letter to Indian PM on September 6, 2016, stating the Government of the French Republic takes full guarantee for ensuring Dassault and MBDA do utmost to fulfill their obligations as per inter-governmental agreement.[6]And, Prime Minister, as was his job, ensured fine inter-departmental coordination to expedite the deal.[Edit 2] Now, the dissenter has himself said all differences were resolved and the deal was done with a consensus. He further added, “I have no comments on politics. But it's certain that Rahul Gandhi is coming out with false details on the deal.”[7]Footnotes[1] ANI on Twitter[2] No scam in Rafale deal: Former Defence Secretary Mohan Kumar[3] ANI on Twitter[4] Nobody flagged any objections before me, says IAF officer who led Rafale negotiations[5] SC gives govt clean chit on Rafale deal, dismisses PILs - Times of India ►[6] ANI on Twitter[7] No scam in Rafale deal: Former Defence Secretary Mohan Kumar

What's the shadiest thing your employer did before firing you?
To this date, it still makes me sick to my stomach.Years ago, I got hired as an assistant manager for a company that I’m not going to name for obvious reasons.I was obsessed with my performance, I would make sure that my job (and the job of the people that I supervised) was always top notch, I would stay overtime even if it wasn’t required just to make sure that things were getting done the right way.I would always get out of my way to make sure that I was a high performer, to the point of working 3 days in a row of 12, 16, and 14 hours shift respectively at one point; I was exhausted, but I loved that job.I would ask my direct manager for feedbacks and recommendations just to make sure that I was following my manager’s vision.Up to this moment, everything seemed good so far.One day when I was off work, my manager texted me my schedule.Because she was leaving on vacation, starting the next day, I was supposed to work 14 days in a row; as I said before, I enjoyed my job so I was fine with it.And here comes the shady part:The next day when I arrive at my job, I started my day as usual, my manager wasn’t there because she was off for vacation.I proceeded to do paperwork and other stuff. An hour later, I received a message from our facility’s security office stating that 6 new temporary employees just arrived at the facility.I thought to myself: “Jum… My manager probably forgot to mention this yesterday”I proceeded to pick them up and take them to a parking lot that we’ve been pressure-washing for the past couple of days. Two hours into my shift, I see that the facility and maintenance manager arrived at the same time. That was very uncommon because:My manager was supposed to be on vacation. The maintenance manager worked the second shift.I greeted them and they told me to follow them to the office.Fast forward and she handed me a paper and said:“Your employment has been terminated effective immediately.. blah.. blah.. blah.. You can use me for references… more blah…”All of this while the maintenance manager sat on his desk red-faced staring at the floor.I asked her: “Why is my employment been terminated without any prior notice or warning about my performance?”She said that it was terminated due to an overbudget.I proceeded to ask her about my performance during my time working for them.As always, she said that it was excellent.I thanked them for the opportunity and left.Shady part? She knew that she was going to fire me the next day and still sent me a month-long schedule where I would be covering her vacations the day before. She said that my employment was terminated due to an overbudget but hired 6 employees that very same day; completely unnecessary to be honest.

What's the coolest thing you've done with Python?
Getting an earlier date for my wife’s practical driving test.My daughter was going to start nursery which was a few miles away from our house and I was working full time, so we needed my wife to get her driving license as soon as possible. We had an appointment taken a few months earlier and she was ready to pass but on the day of the test, due to a catastrophic chain of failures we were late to her test and she couldn’t take it. She was totally devastated. I took another appointment but it was for 2 months later. The only possibility to take an earlier test was to change it with a cancelled test if somebody cancels their test but that was a rare case and somebody needed to sit in front of a computer and check every 10–15 minutes. I did that for a day and decided that I could do better. In a few hours I wrote a script with python and Selenium Web Driver that was logging in to booking system, checking the earlier test date and would try to change the test date if it was in the date interval we wanted. The booking system was supported with CAPTCHA, so I had to optimise it with the best intervals to try without being detected. It was also able to detect CAPTCHAs and wait for somebody to enter the characters in such a case. Once you are shown a CAPTCHA, you had to enter it correctly otherwise the system would not allow you to do anything even if you waited for a long time.I was checking it every few hours and entering the characters if there was a CAPTCHA but most of time it was able to work without being detected and log the earliest dates it had seen in the system. It was quite exciting to check the logs and see that there had been an earlier date available but the script hadn’t tried to get it because it was not ‘good enough’.The reason for not getting any date earlier than ours was because you could change you appointment only a few times. Guess what? We got an appointment for the following week in about 1 week. My wife was proud of me and she did pass her test so I was proud of her too. Happy Ending! It is not the most complicated or best thing I have done as a programmer but I think it is definitely the coolest one :)

As a police officer, what was your first rookie mistake?
After serving my time on the beat, and with the shoe leather getting a little thin, the Sarge decided it was time to put this young lad on a scout car for lunch time relief. The feet were a little tender from the cold concrete on my beat so I was looking forward to warming them up a bit even if it was for just a couple of hours. My first call was to a bar, that was otherwise known as "The Bucket of Blood", in the centre of my patrol area. A bouncer got "bounced" by a patron who wanted him to inspect the glue on his beer bottle's label... from the wrong side.By the time I got there l thought the worst would be over but my youthful exuberance got me there too quick. I watched as the ambulance crew took out a 6 foot 6 - 280 pound bouncer, with a face that looked like raw hamburger, on a gurney. The dispatcher advised me to wait for backup but it would take considerable time to free-up another car. I saw there were two other bouncers standing by the doorway amongst the huge pool of blood with rather glum looking faces. I advised the dispatcher they would probably assist me. They were not too impressed to see this tall, skinny and young looking officer approach them.Peering over my shoulder they asked if more officers were on the way? Their faces had a decidedly nervous edge as I replied that I was all there was and who whacked the bouncer. Two speechless faces dropped a little as they silently raised their arms to the left and pointed at a round table full of large and ugly looking bikers. My sense of enthusiasm was quickly overcome by an inner voice saying something like, "Well stupid ... what are you going to do now."I could feel the hair on my neck sort of quiver. It was another situation were you just know the solution to the problem is to simply call the police. But one quick look down the front of my coat brought the chilling reality home that "I am the police and they expect me to do something about this."l heard a voice come out of my mouth that told the bouncers in a forced, deep, authoritative voice "Okay I'll handle this.'' My inner voice came back to me at once saying, "Who the heck's voice, was that... at this point you can't handle a coffee cup you jerk."l braced myself and decided on the only plan of action I could take. As I left the bouncers to approach the table I could hear their voices saying "I don't care what he's doin but I'm gettin the heck out of here."The subject I wanted to "have a word with" had his back to me and it more than filled the chair. His compatriots whispered to him with one eye upon me as I approached him.If the suspect looked big from the door he was absolutely huge by the time I got to his back. The movie Godzilla came to mind but he was decidedly uglier.Just like a scene from a western movie the others around the table began to slowly stand up. As l approached the suspect I placed my hands inside my winter coat pockets. I noticed some at the table looked a little easier as I did so. l then slipped to the left of the suspect and leaned over to his ear at the same time as I placed the barrel of the gun in my coat pocket into his left rib and cocked it.With the sound of the revolver’s click I whispered in his ear, "Do you know what this is?" The suspect raised both hands slightly off the table and motioned everyone to sit down. As they complied l once again whispered, "Right about now I am about as scared as anyone can ever get and this gun could go off by accident."I did not have to whisper another word."It's okay boys" he said cheerfully, "me and the officer here are just going to go outside and have a nice quiet talk about what happened... every one relax... and I really mean RELAX!"As the two of us left the crowded bar every set of eyes were upon us. No one said a thing and the suspect simply stepped into the back seat of the cruiser. I am sure there were a lot of people who marvelled at my persuasive abilities. No one saw me use any force and the Sarge at the station house was sure impressed with my arrest of the president of the local motorcycle gang. I didn't sleep well for a week. It's been over 40 years now and I still get a little quiver just thinking about it.

What is the craziest thing you've had to do as a business owner to get someone to pay a bill?
In the early years of Fang Marketing, our largest client, a fashion retailer I won’t mention by name, had a really bad habit of not paying their monthly invoices on time.If you don’t work in advertising, then you’re not aware that this is fairly common. Companies these days are pushing the limits of timely payment on the contract level (Net 30 is very rare anymore, Net 60 is more common, but General Mills was recently chastised for asking for a six month payment window); however, on the non-contract level, large companies do whatever they can to hold onto their money for as long as they can so they can pay their direct employees, keep the lights on, and make interest on their cash. In the end, outside vendors end up getting screwed because the companies know that we can only complain so much or risk losing the client entirely because we won’t “play ball.”However, this client, whom we were regularly invoicing $20,000 a month for services rendered, would regularly pay a Net 30 invoice at Net 60, Net 90, or Net 120. As a startup with only a small collection of clients at the time, this meant that I had to constantly shuffle funds to pay my agency employees and eventually myself. To make this happen, I was using everything I could… credit cards, lines of credit, and my own sanity. The client would eventually do a catch up round of payments that would make everything all right and I would go back to being able to sleep at night. One time, said client had six open invoices overdue — that’s $120,000 outstanding. I had completely exhausted all my funding options to pay my employees and pay my rent, but I was way behind on a variety of bills and creditors were starting to call on a regular basis. Meanwhile, my home life was just a big pile of stress. My wife (I was married at the time) and I had planned a big, expensive Disney cruise with her three children and mother. Luckily, the cruise, the flight to Seattle, and various details were already paid for, but all our cards were maxed out and we had no cash for incidentals… like food. Sure, if we could just make it on the damn boat, we would be fine (cruises are all you can eat, after all); however, there’s a whole collection of little things to pay for to get to the damn boat, like cabs, trains, hotel rooms, and, you know, food.I was a mess and I got desperate, so, on the day we were supposed to leave for Seattle, I went over to the client’s offices and sat in the waiting room until I got paid. The first request was to my day to day contact at the client, who was a longtime friend of mine and was super embarrassed by the situation because there was literally nothing he could do. I really just asked for him to let him know that I was there and was about to do what I was going to do - work my way up the chain until I got paid.Next, I asked for the contact in Accounting that I worked with on a regular basis. She came out, also embarrassed, and explained that there was nothing she could do, but she did tell me who her boss was — the controller for the company. If you’ve never worked with larger companies that have their own accounting departments before, a controller is the real workhorse of the finance team. The CFO may get the big paycheck, but the comptroller is really pulling the strings.Somehow, the Controller came out to the lobby and explained that there was nothing she could do because the CFO was out of the office. I explained to her that, while I may not have a degree in finance, I do know how accounting departments work and that I knew that she could sign checks with an approval over the phone from the CFO, so she should go make some phone calls. She said that would be difficult because the CFO was out trying to secure financing for the company. Now I really started to panic. Holy crap — they weren’t paying me because they didn’t have any money!I told her to keep trying and proceeded to camp out in the lobby.Multiple times, various people would come out to talk to me and say that I could wait at my office, or in the courtyard, or that I could go get lunch and come back, and so forth. Each time, I would tell them I was fine — I had water, I had snacks, I had my laptop… I was solid. Luckily, this company didn’t have security and I don’t think they even thought about calling security for the larger building; however, I didn’t really give them a reason to call security. I was calm, I was polite, I wasn’t creating a scene, and the reasons I was there were completely legitimate — the company owed me $120,000 and if they didn’t pay me, my company was about to collapse.Six hours went by and the two people I now knew in accounting kept coming out to update me on their hunt for the CFO. Meanwhile, my wife was running around at home, finishing packing, picking up kids from daycare, and trying to explain to her mother why her crazy husband was sitting in an office the day we were supposed to leave for vacation.Just as my spirit was about to collapse, the Controller appeared and said she found the CFO and had got approval to pay the invoice. This was 4pm on a Friday at a startup, so it was amazing anyone was there at all. Every update after that was a minor apology — they lost the invoices, they had to figure out how to do a manual check, they had to find the CEO to sign the check, and so on. Finally, about 30 minutes before the banks would close, the Controller appeared with a check for $120,000.Have you ever tried to get a check for $120,000 cashed at a bank just before closing time on a Friday? It’s not pretty. Managers had to be called, other banks had to be called, and so on.I took as much cash as I could from the check so we had some walking-around money and put the rest in the account so it could clear by Monday. In the car on the way to the airport, I set up a collection of payments to go out of that money for lines of credit, credit cards, and employees who were waiting to get paid.We flew to Seattle, went out to dinner at the Space Needle restaurant, then went back to the hotel where I promptly had a full-blown anxiety attack. The next morning we sailed for Alaska. The client never went that far in the hole with me again.Coda:My company will turn nine years old this December. The client that caused this stayed with us for about two more years (about four years, total) until they pulled their digital media in-house. Other clients that pushed the limits on payment followed, but none this bad.I occasionally coach people who want to start their own business and use this story to remind them that running a business is more than having a great idea, but having the stones for everything else.

What is the hardest thing you have ever done?
Okay so this incident was the hardest one for me. I have to go anonymously because I am not that confident to show myself.Let me elaborate. It is about a girl. We both studied in a same college. I saw her on the very first day of my college. I was jaw-dropped. She was so charming and beautiful. I had a huge crush on her.4 years passed. I never told her. She was that kind of girls who are very popular among boys. Boys were desperate about her. But she ignored everyone. I never bothered her in entire college period. The farewell day came. I saw her again. I got a goosebumps. My nervous got stimulated. My heart beats were like an engine of Harley Davidson. Anyway, I didn't talk to her. That night, after coming back to home, I started regretting. So I texted her to be friend. She said Yes.We talked More and More and More. I told her finally that I had feelings for her and I care for her. She said it's not the right time and she need some time. I said okay. After around a month, I started feeling again. So I told her that so and ask her that if she had feelings for someone, I would not think ahead. BUT, she said she didn't have feelings for anyone and not sure about me. I said okay.I cared for her too much. She was the most important person after my mother and sister for me. She knew that that I really care for her.6 months went. I am studying abroad and she is in home country. 1 month ago, she went on a dinner(actually it was a date) with someone and told me she never go with anyone like this but she couldn't say no to him. So I asked his name. She denied. Now after that incident, I felt like she was using me for fun. So we stopped talking for one month. In that month, I was depressed like hell. By depressed means very seriously depressed. I was suicidal. But I breathe through. After a month, I told her that I still have feelings and I am depressed about that because I was in love with her and want to marry her. She again played and told me there is some reason that is why she did this. I asked. She said she will never told me but wanted to be a friend. I said okay. After few days, I couldn't stop thinking about her and asked that reason and if I am having any bad things or habit, I am willing to change it.She finally said. She: The reason is I like someone else and I don't think that anything can happen between us now. So better we shouldn't talk.I: why didn't you tell me before. I asked you. She: I don't need to explain everything to you. You can never understand.I: you just played with my feelings, do you even realize that!?She: I don't care. This happened at 3:00 AM in the morning. I was furious. I disconnected her and deleted every evidence of her.I lost my self-esteem in this incident. But now I feel like I wasn't wrong. After this I got to know that she was dating him for 2 years. She lied every single thing. She lost a respect for me. She was having fun with me.So I decided to forget and forgive her for the pain she caused me. That was the hardest decision of my life.I don't care anymore. I am very happy now that I am out of it. She is just no one for me now.PSI learned some life lessons after this. Not every beautiful face have a beautiful heart.Honesty is very expensive thing. Never loose it.Always be truthful with every relationship.Never loose your self-esteem for anyone.Your family is your first priority. Dk everything for them.Don't play with anyone's feelings.Peace!

What will be the reaction of Congress Leaders on the death of ex-defense minister Manohar Parrikar?
They didn’t even wait for his funeral to show their ugly colours. The time is 1:26 am right now as I type these words, and its been a little over 5 hours since the news of the saddening demise of Shri Manohar Parrikar Ji was made public. And, at 10:25 pm, just about 2 hours after the announcement, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee had already submitted to the Governor of Goa, their demand for Indian National Congress to be invited to form the new Government.Goa Congress leaders G Chodankar & C Kavlekar write letter to Goa Governor staking claim to form Government, letter reads "Coalition partners of Parrikar led Govt had allied with BJP on condition that Govt is headed by Manohar Parrikar. BJP therefore has no allies as of now." https://t.co/5HIqE2WRDi— ANI (@ANI) March 17, 2019 They didn't even wait for his funeral. They didn't even have that much of political sagacity, even if they lacked humility anyway. For them, it's a great gift, an opportune moment which they had dearly been yearning for almost two decades, because the only man who had been keeping them out of power all this time, he is no more physically alive to keep them at bay. That's Indian National Congress for you.Read the time “10:25 pm” below the signature and stamp denoting Raj Bhavan, Goa’s receiving of Congress’s letter.By doing so they have only displayed the act of a crow, desperate to feed on the dead. And, that is disgraceful and abominable. Now it makes sense, why despite such severe illness Manohar Parrikar Ji didn't resigned from his job as the CM. He had no option, for he knew that the day he would take a step back from his watch, the goons would be ready to pounce. He knew that Congress was always waiting for this moment from the day his illness became a piece of public knowledge. He always knew what was coming. That's Manohar Parrikar Ji, prudent, sage, true son of the motherland and a devout warrior who served his state and nation to the very last breath of his life. I wish, the Congress counterparts of him could have also learnt a bit of that devotion from him. That would have stopped them from acting like a crow, and would have given them enough wisdom to at least wait for the funeral and rites to be over, given the seat math of Goa Assembly is not changing anytime soon. Period.Signing off,Shilanjan_/\_
