have been asking other grades if I'm gonna work on getting those in today but the emails that you we got sent from the school and there are my messages so told you your grade is either gonna be the average of your first three nine weeks most likely or if you're 39 weeks average is higher that'll go in the stuff you've been turning into me can only raise your grade you can't lower it so whenever your grade goes in you can't you don't need to worry or if you know what your first three nine weeks grades are you can average those you don't worry about your grade being any lower than that based on missing question on the no check or whatever as long as you get it in get it turned in it can only improve your grade it can't hurt it although if you missed the questions I am grading them if it doesn't help your grade I'm not putting them in so hopefully that answers that questions Frankie's joined the Google classroom so maybe he's got his calendar at home we can finally get some wheat or whatever facts going again a lot of people have been yet upset with me that I'm on my calendar but I can't go back to school and get it so I'm sorry about that maybe Frankie has a Frankie if you're generally considered to be one of our better presidents by a lot of people some people don't like him but it's a matter of opinion he did really bring us a law a long way out of the Great Depression so it's it's nice thirty in 1928 Hoover which was your last question on your last section gets like the president he does so this was a question on your your note check he does nothing he's like well this'll this'll fix itself and we now know that it wasn't gonna fix itself that we really needed not only action but a lot of action and a lot of decisive action quickly in order to try to fix the ailing economy and try to get people having money again to keep people having jobs again and to get the economy flowing and again I've said this for three sections in a row now but we're repeating a lot of these same cycles right now you know a lot of people are saying that you know the members of Congress are not doing enough to give relief to people that need it we're not creating enough income for people people are you know unemployment claims have gone through the roof more than any other time ever even in the 1930s I'm talking about right now in 2020 and you know there's a lot of people that are arguing that we're not when I say we I mean Congress is not doing enough to take it decisive action you know a lot of people are saying we're hoovering this all over again so 1932 comes around and the Democrats feel like they're gonna win and so they nominate FDR Franklin Delano de la you know Delano Roosevelt he was married to Eleanor Roosevelt famously her maiden name was also Eleanor Roosevelt she was like a couple times removed like fifth cousin twice removed anyway she was Teddy Roosevelt's niece and teddy was Franklin's cousin which means that they were distant distantly related not enough to like legally or genetically matter it's still kind of weird or creepy if you ask me what you didn't because this is a YouTube video you can't ask me but that's just my opinion so anyway he was from New York he was in the Senate in 1910 he was hit by polio in the 1920s and he went months with being able to move his toe and he he talked about how you know running for president stuff later on was no big deal when he couldn't you know when he spent six months laying in bed trying to trying to move his big toe by the way if you don't know much about polio neither do i thankfully because we have vaccines now so if you're not wanting to get people vaccinated you should reconsider because they work and they keep you for having things like a paralyzed lower body like our former President Franklin Roosevelt he would ask um journalists to just not photograph his legs and like a big because you know TV wasn't a very wasn't a thing yet and it was mostly radio how we communicated people for the most part unless you saw him in a speech didn't know that he was paralyzed it was more or less a secret to most of America which of course would never happen you know what Twitter and snapchat and tik-tok and whatever today you know if somebody became paralyzed that was an important you know enough to run for president we would know within seconds so a different time of course and so he was elected governor of New York in 28 and 30 and one of his biggest strengths in my opinion is that he you know if you're gonna be a president you have to know you have to work on tariff reform immigration reform health clinic health care the military there's hundreds if not thousands of things that go into that job and one of Roosevelt or York also in one of Roosevelt's strengths was that he kept a bunch of people who were really at the top of their field whether that be in law or economists or social workers like it says on the slide you can see right now whatever the top people most feel he kept a group of them around him that he called his brain trust and he knew that hey I can't know all this no president can know all this now then all the way back to George Washington and so the ability one of his strengths as a leader was the ability to solicit or ask for and value other people's ideas and so he won presidential election in 1932 famously he said we have nothing to fear but fear itself first of all what he meant by that was that the fact that we were panicking and the fact that the stock market crashed because we were selling so many stocks really got us in this mess okay and so that's what he meant by that saying it wasn't just a pleasant you know sit around a campfire and you know roast marshmallows and sing Kumbaya warm fuzzy feeling saying it meant something that if we if we are positive our actions can bring us out of this also you know snakes I mentioned last time I don't you know we have nothing to fear but for yourself that's nice but snakes I'm still scared enough uh he closed banks for four days and basically said hey get your crap together you got four days if you gave her got four days then you're staying closed and so the hundred days was his first 100 days obviously it's not cleverly named but you get the idea and we passed more more pieces of legislation and more pieces of meaningful legislation those hundred days and possibly in any other time in American history and so these all came known as the New Deal he passed laws and regulations that affect the banking stock market just factory were farming Public Works relief for the poor conservation his number one priority was called work relief or to get people back to work and so this is another thing you're seeing now you know this is what the government did is it started spending government money and created government jobs to have people do things okay the CCC the Civilian Conservation Corps a lot of history to teach to call this lesson alphabet soup because you have the TWA the CCC the TVA the AAA the FDIC you get the idea it's like looking in a you know bowl of alphabet soup and whatever letters pop up that's a law that we passed but the Civilian Conservation Corps planted trees about the levees improvement you know created you know the National Park Service not created that expanded I guess Teddy Roosevelt actually created the Federal Emergency Relief Administration okay this is basically if there's a hurricane or tornado or the Great Depression or pandemic lights going on now the fer AR the fira can allocate or give out money to people in states that need it the TVA which basically dammed off the Tennessee River this is how land of the lakes in Kentucky was created by these dams and basically this was all very hard to inhabit these areas because it would flood all the time and so what he did was basically create dams which made lakes which stop the flooding and then give these people like electricity and allow them to start building some you know more civilized cultures and civilizations there and so basically in the beginning people were like warriors can help these people this in one small area but once it actually happened and they saw how much help it created in and created jobs for people to build the stuff to help these people you know you gave jobs to people which helped them to then stop flooding in this area to help those people and it was just a win-win situation and people realize this was one of the most effective pieces of legislation ever National Industrial Recovery administration minimum wage got rid of child labor PWA build a lot of our what we now consider landmarks Lincoln Tunnel Fort Knox roads and schools and so basically we built and made things and gave people jobs and paid them well to do that and then once those people have money they spend their money on stuff that's part of you know we're sitting out as stimulus checks now the idea is you buy stuff with it the idea that you're just gonna buy grouchy to that if you need your uh trees that's great but the idea is if you want to buy stuff that you don't need luxury items that's good too because then people the demand for that goes up and the need for jobs go up and so that's the whole idea behind all these and so the nation was not cured the depression dragged on but optimism was really on the way up people are starting to see things as a glass half full instead of half empty national confidence is going up and we started to believe that this might actually pass us by and so this wasn't over but we're on the right track and so that's the end of the slides today I was thinking about doing a Google online meetup just to say hi if you're interested in that comment I'll put a
