okay and then so what we're going to talk about today so i'll talk about the general testing expectations we'll talk about the south dakota math and ela assessments the science assessment the alternate assessments accommodations access 2.0 nape and then homeschool so right now you may not even know what some of those are but hopefully by the end you'll know what the requirements and expectations for each of those assessments is and know where this powerpoint is in case you need to refer to it and that's just kind of more timing one of the first to introduce our team each one of these people will be talking today um jessica allers it goes by jessie owler she is the administrator for the msaa and the science also the alternate assessments beth schiltz is the accommodations queen is what i call her she is just who to contact for accommodations util becker is english english language and the english language assessment which is access 2.0 she is on maternity leave so amanda theronson is her backup she will be the contact person for that while util is out chris booth oversees the science and the science alternate assessment helps uh jessie allies with that as well as the math and ela alternate assessments amanda thronson again she over sees the math and ela assessments the interim informative assessments those tools and resources that can help teachers improve and enhance their instruction chris also oversees homeschool and then jennifer cheddar is our nape director [Music] okay so what i'm going to do is just start with the overview of the assessments the requirements laws and rules there's a lot of random pieces to this but if you have questions just ask and if anybody could let me know if there are questions since i can't see the chat so this is a lot of wording right here but pretty much what this is this is the law that states that assessments are required for public school districts the public school districts must administer the assessments students proficiency must be measured and the assessments must be aligned to the state content standards so this law if you're wanting to read it closer it's 13 355. and so here are the assessments for south dakota so we have the access 2.0 or the access alt so those are for english learners in grades k through 12. until the student reaches proficiency expectation and then for grades students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 they take the south dakota math and ela assessments ela's english language arts so that'll either take the smarter balanced assessment for the general or the msaa which is the alternate assessment for english language arts and math and then the last one is south dakota science assessment or the alternate assessment and those are for grades 5 8 and 11. so i wanted to share this some key elements of the assessment systems number one security i want to ensure that the tests are safe for the students student privacy and also for the items that there's item security the next one is reliability which is the same thing as consistency the consistency of a test to measure what it measures so pretty much in other words how trustworthy is the score on the test could the results be reproduced under the same conditions and does the test measure something with consistency next one is validity or the last one's validity and that same thing is accuracy the accuracy of a measure how good is a test to measure or for a particular situation do the results represent what they're supposed to measure and i put this in there too just because i feel like it's always important to know the why why assess first off assessments they are good it's an opportunity to evaluate the instructional emphasis also to evaluate the curriculum breadth and depth are are the teachers t teaching what they're supposed to do are the with the standards are they covering the depth and intention of the standards uh yeah and then um just making sure that the standards are covered and so it's evaluating our students receiving the instruction that they should be receiving in order to be ready for college or career next thing is equity just our are there specific group of students that are falling behind assessments allow you to measure that so you can instead of pushing it under the rug come up with solutions for students that may be falling behind and then the last one of course yes it is required in both state and federal law that students must be assessed in english language arts math and science and to ensure that all students are meeting college and career ready standards by the end of high school so a little bit more about testing so the tests are summative the end of year's assessment they are summative assessments they are not designed to be diagnostic so what that means diagnostic just means providing instructors with information about students prior knowledge and misconceptions beforehand giving a baseline of understanding so kind of at the beginning of the year that is not what our assessment our our summative assessments are designed to do instead they are designed to be an end-of-year assessment that can be used to invest to evaluate the instructional emphasis curriculum and then if the standards were covered which we talked about on the previous slide uh beth will be talking more about this but students with iep or 504 plan can have accommodations designed to support the student but not change the test she'll talk a lot about that today and tomorrow and then students with significant cognitive disabilities will take alternative assessments in their content areas which jesse owlers and chris booth we'll talk more about here are the testing windows for the 2021 school year and these are right on our website too so if you go to doe.sd.gov assessment you will see this on the home page so it tells when the assessments are you'll also see this nice chart which says again when the assessments are uh what are the subjects what are the grade levels and then again what is this testing window so this is right on our website doe.sd.gov assessment and i want to talk a little bit about test security i didn't want to get too far into the weeds but just uh just kind of talking about the importance of it first off with our assessments south dakota is not the only state that is using the test so that is why test security is very important uh where other states use the assessments as well so we have to make sure that they stay secure items don't get reached or anything so that's why it's important that to carefully monitor the students during the test sessions carefully monitoring them can eliminate most issues and also very important is training training is key to maintaining test security the next slide i will talk a little bit more about training options just know that each assessment does have different training expectations which i'll cover on the next slide and just that no personal communication device can be on the student during the test session so that includes cell phone watches personal tablets or any other device so training expectations like i said each assessment has different requirements access 2.0 the training for that is required so there is required training for test administrators when testing online for kindergarten and for excess alternate msa which remember that's the alternate assessment for math and ela training must be completed before test administrators can access test directions and then for south dakota math ela and science assessments it is not required but highly recommended that administrators go through the online training module [Music] this is updated annually so if you've done it in the past we still recommend that you do it again just because it's just something that you do once a year and last year you never did do it so it's just a good refresher so we definitely highly recommend doing that online training module uh that is definitely crucial and you can find that by going to the south dakota assessment gateway we'll talk about the gateway a lot in the next few days that is where all assessments for the math ela and science you can find all resources for that and just wanted to let you know there are practice and training tests available as well so students and test administrators can use these to practice giving the assessments just to test the different interfaces and then numerous tutorials for the components are also available on the gateway which i was talking about so yes you'll definitely want to bookmark that gateway what you can find on our website so if you go to the doe.sd.gov assessment there's only two links one of the links says south dakota assessment gateway that is where you will find all these resources and just wanted to cover this uh just quickly just district responsibility to if cheating does occur so you are required to report cheating if it does happen that's just what this law is saying and then the next law you can look at it closer when we send out the powerpoint but the second this one just says what the secretary shall do and what we have to determine if there is cheating and if it's severe enough what what could happen so just cheating it is very serious that's why we really hit on the making sure that you go through the training and just making sure that you monitor the students set yourselves up for success just because don't want to be in this situation and if there are incidents uh each test will have a test security log that again you can find on our website and you will submit that to this is our email address so if you ever need to get a hold of us um about testing email doe assessment at state.sd.us so then that this is where you'll send those security logs to and just know doe staff we do visit schools during test windows to monitor administration and test security practices we want to look for evidence of staff training and test monitoring we'll collect information about that so for criteria for the 2021 visits is based on critical issues that emerged during the 2019 testing window just because we didn't have a 2020 testing window and just no more than 72 hours notice will be provided if and when we do come and visit and just want to talk about infinite campus too infinite campus is our source for all testing information so if a student needs alternate assessments and the correct data is not completed the student will not be in the pre-id file for msaa so those students that need to take the alternate assessment the one percent of students with severe disabilities they do need to be marked in infinite campus so that we can get them into the pre-id file for the msaa assessment and know that student transfers and tied can take up to 72 hours just because we get the data from a nightly data from infinite campus it transfers over to tide and sometimes there's hiccups with that so that's why we say 72 hours if you do have students missing please contact us do not contact the cambium help desk which we'll talk about more tomorrow but instead you'll contact us at that doe assessment at state.sd.us so in infinite campus this is what it will look like so type must be p for a student to be in the appropriate test system p stands for primary enrollment so a good example of this is if you have a student who is 51 in your school 49 home schooled the students primary enrollment would be at your school hence he or she would test through your school district or would take years take the state assessment yep and just a couple more reminders uh students test once if the student's iap indicates alternate assessment then the student does not take the sd math ela or science assessments so what this means the students will either take the alternate assessments or they'll take the general ed assessments they do not take both and if they take one alternate assessment they must take all of the alternate assessments given that they're in this uh correct grade which would only be fifth eighth and eleventh because that's those are the only ones that science is and then the participate and alt assessment box must be checked in campus for students taking alternate assessments which just wanted to hit that home one more time and english learners i'm going to just go through this quickly because amanda thornton will talk more about this but uh students identified as english learners they are required to be assessed to determine progress in acquiring english skills so that they can participate with their peers in general classroom access 2.0 is that assessment that is the language proficiency test so and students who are first year in country will not take smarter balanced ela tests they'll still take science and math but instead of taking the ela assessment they'll take the access 2.0 their first year in country so um yeah data must be correct in campus in order to get credit for being first year in country again the importance of marking everything correctly in campus i already talked about that yeah and just know that math is available in spanish for smarter balance for first year and country students so that's the math and ela assessments or the math assessment can be in spanish so here's some considerations did the students have significant instruction opportunities in math prior to coming to south dakota can the student read spanish so the test in spanish is a support is a student receiving math instruction and that can help you determine if the assessment needs to be in spanish or not i wanted to hit on medical exemptions just because this comes up every year so the rule of thumb is if the student can receive instruction the student can participate in the statewide assessments medical emergencies these are those significant documented fully incapacitating medical emergencies that extend through the testing window some examples would be car accident hospitalization severe emotional trauma placement and hospice care so medical emergencies of this kind must be identified and verified in the writing by a licensed physician and kept on filed by the local school district the incident or condition must be so severe as to prevent the student from participating in instruction offered either at school hospital or at home through the end of the testing window so here are some examples that do not qualify so medical fragility district provided home-based educational programs pregnancy students with acute short-term minor illnesses or injuries students placed on correctional facilities student or parent refusal and mental health conditions that permit the students to receive instruction and we want to put this one more time this is how you'll stay in touch with us doe assessment at state.sd.us that is where you'll send medical exemptions security logs requests to add students appeals or any kind of questions and we will have at least one doe staff member in the office each day of the test windows and if someone is out of the office we'll make sure that their out of office message provides details of who to contact and i won't read this all but this is just talking about testing transparency for assessments you must provide parents reports and on the student scores so you must provide the scores to the parents oh and this is starting in 1718 as well district and school websites must provide the following state and local assessment information so pretty much on your district website you must include your testing windows when are your students going to or when do you have them scheduled to take the assessments that must be on the assessment on your district website somewhere easy to find so make sure that that is on there work with your tech coordinator whoever your website to make sure that that is on there and a little bit more about reporting to families families must receive student results as soon as practically possible so access 2.0 reports are sent to districts in may sd math and ela assessment reports are posted within three weeks of test submission msaa reports are provided the district in mid-august for download and then for science and science alt the reports will be provided after standard setting in the summer this is the first year we're given the science and science alt assessment so we have to do the standard setting process and after that the reports will be sent or will be available and just one more time just remember to make sure your testing dates are on your website so that is a lot of information so i might stop right there and just check the chat to see if there are any questions and i'll give an opportunity to anyone buddy on my team if there's anything you wanted to clarify or all right if not i will yes thank you jennifer we will be providing some guidance on posting assessment dates on the websites that'll be coming soon and that's a good point right there the main way we communicate is through our newsletter so if you do not get our weekly newsletter please email me that's probably the easiest way right now in the meantime and i can make sure that you are added to that so that you get our weekly communication and my email address is matthew i'll just put it in here so if you need access to the newsletter yes please uh email me and i'll get you added and you probably saw this but in mary static smith's weekly announcement that goes out to administrators she did um she has been reminding superintendents and principals that the uh ed directory needs to be updated by september 1st in the ed directory that just states who's the superintendent who are the principals who's the assessment director who's the tech coordinator so are the assessment coordinators so we that needs to be updated by september 1st so what i recommend you doing is going out to the doe.sd.gov website and check your district's ad structure and or add directory and if it is not correct let your superintendent know because they need to get that request get that updated and sent to jennifer ratlin leaf by september 1st and by that that is how we will add you all to the newsletter and make sure that you get the proper communication and know who the assessment coordinators are so that they have the access to tied and to the testing online platform all right with that i am going to pass it over to amanda ronson amanda did you just want me to drive for you is that easiest yes please awesome morning everybody okay so as matt said i'm in charge of the south dakota math and ela summary of assessments and the interim assessments go ahead and go to the next slide matt okay so that's good as elaine math assessments they're all contained within cambium system on the assessment gateway and the students are automatically loaded and updated from infinite campus so all the information has to be an infinite campus and then it will show up in the cambium system about 48 to 72 hours after it's an infinite campus you need to make sure it's right in ic for it to be right and tied for the summative assessment grades three through eight and eleven are tested and it is a computer adaptive test which means scores are planned to be added to this the discipline level and scores will be available after standard setting next summer going to go map and now i'll turn it over to chris who's in charge of the science okay can you guys hear me i did not put that picture of myself on there so that was nice of it though well i just said a picture but yeah um yeah i'm chris booth i do all the science stuff so yeah if you're gonna direct it for me go ahead and move ahead okay this is the well last year we had planned on having the science and the science salt within cambium system with ela and math but because of covid and all that other fun stuff uh it is still within cambium system that's also a link to the gateway there um ela math and science alt are also contained within the science the same system the students are automatically updated nightly starts an infinite campus and goes through various different systems including sd stars so it can take 24 to 72 hours for an update to be seen within the system it's going to be very important since we have science and science alt in the same system that the alt students are properly identified because it's the participation alt mark with an infinite campus that will determine whether they are loaded into the regular science or the science of science is only for grades 5 8 and 11 and it's still based on the standards that were adopted in 2015 uh the hyperlinks there for the grades five eight and eleven will take you to the blueprints for the science tests and we are planning for the scores to be at the discipline level so we'll have a score for physical science life science earth and space science and we hope to have the scores they will be available sometime in the summer aft we do the standard setting and i believe that is it for science so you can go to the next one good morning matt you're going to have to drive for me too i'm afraid so i've got the shields and i actually and i actually work for the special education office so next i always like to start with a little bit of a cartoon so with accommodation what we're trying to do is level the playing field for our students so as you can see with this cartoon not fair for everybody to take the assessment without accommodations next slide so why would an assessment coordinator need to know about supports and accommodations well one of the main reasons is because you might be that person in the district who's going to have to enable them in the tide system and the reason we really like to let you know in the fall about this is because if some districts have decided to use the interim assessments then some of the supports and accommodations may need to be marked this fall the state ones the ones you use for the interims will also be used for the state assessment so once you mark them in the fall you do not need to mark them again in the spring for the state assessment you may need to ask more questions because if you don't understand something you might have to ask some of your staff why something is needed you might have to download additional software hardware work with your tech coordinator make sure that any additional hardware software whatever is needed for students with accommodations is working within the testing platform and then you might also want need to know if a request is inappropriate and that would affect either the student scores or the validity of the state assessment so you have to be careful about that next slide so every district is different so you'll notice that it says district decision there twice well the reason is is because it truly is a district's decision into who marks this information in the tide system tide is that test information management engine okay it could be you it could be something that someone had just at a building level that's going to be you for you to decide at the district level next slide these are the people that you should be working with when we talk about supports and accommodations and we will go into more in depth into that tomorrow there are you will have to work with gen ed teachers special ed teachers and maybe even the tech coordinator as i previously mentioned about if there is going to be some hardware software that maybe a student with a disability maybe needs in order to interact with the testing platform next slide so how do you get the information you need so if you have to put the information into the target system we do have a few tools that you can use now i say you can use the state never says that you have to use these tools but you can they're available we will show you more about this tomorrow as well i just wanted to show you where they were located on the website and this is the website you would go to you'd have to click on the plus sign in front of that designated supports and accommodations piece next slide so how so here are those documents so the first one is the south dakota tsa the south dakota tsa is called the tool supports and accommodations document the second one is the reading passages accommodations this is for those sped teachers that have the read aloud or reading accommodation which is either the read aloud or text to speech for those students who need the ela passages read aloud the next one is an accommodation summary page it's one to two page document i think it actually ended up being a one one-page document gives a very very very brief description of each of the tool supports and accommodations four and five are highlighted in red because these are the two tools i was talking about the number four you do have to download on your computer because it does have drop down boxes and check boxes five is more of a pdf type of a document that you could print and then teachers could use a pen or a pencil to mark in the boxes so next page so what's next join the webinar tomorrow to find out more about a lot of the information i've given you and then actually even join the last webinar to bring those burning questions so if later after you've gotten off of this webinar and you have questions and you've looked at the website and even after tomorrow have questions bring them on thursday and we'll answer any question you have so now take a big breath you've got this next there you go all right thank you beth um and i'm watching the chat if you have any questions about accommodations or anything that's been presented so far please type them into the chat um next we're going to go into the south dakota alternate assessments and just wanted to clarify so this is jesse allers and chris booth they both uh work with the msaa and the science alt jesse is in charge of the one percent making sure teachers are using the core content connectors chris does the assessment side of it they work together to support the testing so i will hand it over to them right now thanks matt um i'm just gonna touch base really quick to start off with on testing for the one percent of students uh so with those we do the students with the most severe cognitive disabilities now it's just a reminder that severe cognitive disabilities itself is not um a qualifying area so in order for a student to qualify for the alternate assessment um at the state district level they must meet three different criteria and these are laid out on our website so the first one is that they have to have a disability or disabilities they could be multiple dis disabilities that significantly impacts their cognitive function um and this also includes the or adaptive behavior piece of that so the student's instruction has to be aligned to the core content connector standards i know that this is something that i'm really going to be focusing on here in the next couple years of putting out um more trainings on helping teachers and educators throughout the state learn how to use those core content connectors so they have um a better idea of what to do in the classroom and then how to prepare for these assessments and then the final piece of that is that the student requires um really direct individualized instruction and supports in order to make gains at the grade and age level appropriate curriculum a lot of them um more than likely are not even doing grade level curriculum so again these three areas need to be met in order for the students to qualify as a one percent um a lot of the things that we're focusing on here moving forward is making sure that the districts are under that one percent for their um students with severe cognitive disabilities and then obviously the state in uh general so you can go to the next slide mat and then i will let chris take over this part since she has been working with msaa quite a bit more before uh ela and math alt we are part of the msa consortium along with nine other states cogni is the vendor for that not to be confused with cambium so we have two different vendors for the ela and math and ela and math alternate this is for grades three through eight and then eleven and the big thing with the msaa system it is not available until a couple of weeks before the test window opens and the test window is opening again march 15th so it won't be available to like the first week in march i know a lot of people start freaking out in january and february wanting access to the system but there's nothing in that system this system is very different from the uh cambium system in that the students are just loaded in in a one-time poll and they don't even load the students in until the end of february there are only two types of accounts within the system and that is either test coordinator or test administrator and the test coordinator is the one that basically oversees the testing for all of the students in the district and the test administrator is the one that is performing sitting with the student and going through and giving the test one-on-one with the student and what we will do usually around november december we are going to ask each district for we're going to send out an email to each district test coordinator and ask okay who is going to be the test coordinator for your district because when we go through and we have to prepare the file of the students to be loaded into the system we also load the test coordinators and again depending upon the district it might be the assessment coordinator themself or it might be the spell coordinator or whoever else is designated as the test coordinator it's the test coordinator then that will create the accounts for the test administrators within the district you want to move forward please again the students are loaded from a one-time poll from infinite campus and that's usually in early december so if the students aren't properly marked as taking the off assessment which you would find that under the enrollment tab of the special ed field you can see i have it highlighted there at the bottom uh they aren't going to be loaded into the system and they also will be in the regular science test within the cambium system so it's very important that all of the students that are taking the alternate assessment are properly marked as participates in alt assessment we are working on an msaa website that should be available very soon to replace the next wiki that's where the core content connectors are located for the ela and math alternate and it will hopefully be a lot more user-friendly if you have none of the niche of wiki which is hyperlinked there it's very hard to navigate but msa yeah hopefully we'll have we will have a website for msaa up and running here within the next two weeks or so okay move forward please okay with the science alt again this is pretty much identical to the regular science it's in the same system as ela math and science so you will need to have the secure browser that goes with the cambium system msa incognia do not need a secure browser there is a system within what usually chrome is the chrome or firefox are the two preferred browsers but you log into the secure system from a browser any type of browser as long as it's properly updated the students will be automatically updated so if they weren't properly marked they wouldn't be in the science alt test properly mark them and roughly about 24 to 72 hours later because you have to mark them in infinite campus that data goes to sd stars and the data is actually pulled from sd stars so there's it takes a little bit of time for it to actually get to the cambium system and then they should be in the proper science test but for msaa you'd have to let us know and we would have to manually enter them in for you science is only for grades 5 8 and 11 and it's based on the core content connectors that were created in 2017 based on the science standards that were adopted in 2015 and the links there in parentheses will take you to the torque content connectors for science well the link's up there with where it has the grades 5 8 and 11 only that will take you to the blueprints this will be an online administration similar to science where in the past this uh science health was a 100 portfolio assessment but the federal law has changed on that and we can no longer have a 100 portfolio-based assessment so it will be very similar to the science and actually the questions are very similar to msaa where they are based on the core content connectors and they're a little more basic than the regular the general science scores are planned to again be at the discipline level so physical science live science earth and space and they should be available after standard setting next summer and that's it you move forward thank you okay the access assessment is another ass ssment we have to give for the state and is for our eel students matt go ahead and forward thank you the access assessment is the state requires all els in grades 1 through 12 to be assessed in the access assessment and a reminder back to what matt said about students who are first year in country make sure they're labeled correctly in infinite campus and recognizes that if they're first year in country they don't have to take the south dakota ela assessment test they will have to take the science in math um the access assessment will address the eop standards that are part of the wida consortium and we are working on finalizing the new standards for the eop and the access assessment is also completed online so that's very convenient for all schools accommodations are available as well as an alternate assessment for those who require them so there's the access assessment and the access alt assessment and paper versions are also available if those are needed by school districts so if you have any questions about the access assessment go ahead and send me an email and i'll do my very best to help you when util is back maternity leave then we'll get her back on board to answering your questions go ahead and advance matt turn it over to jennifer can you hear everybody hear me yup my video great thanks i'm using my cell phone for audio and um i'm never quite sure what i'm going to use myself so i'm jennifer tedder and i oversee the nape assessment um go ahead and continue matt the nape assessment if you're not familiar is a congressionally mandated national assessment it's been around for almost 50 years um it's given every other year for math and reading the native assessment actually gives a lot of assessments in other content areas south dakota typically participate exclusively in math and reading so this is a long-term trend assessment so we're looking at a national sample of what students know know how to do measuring progress it's often called the nation's report card you may have heard that as well it when we take the nape we don't get local results so we don't get school level or student level results we just see the the statewide results for math and reading and so we can see how we compare to the rest of the country that is a sample and sometimes people are quick to say well because we don't get back individual school or student results it must not be you know an important assessment but it absolutely is um and i kind of think of it as if you go to the doctor and get um a blood sample drawn we we trust those results we don't need the doctor to pull all of our blood to trust those results and so uh we look at nate data the same way now keep on that go ahead nate is scheduled to uh go on in the spring of 21. um we do have some dates um i need to get the state website up updated um january 25th through march 19 2021 is the window for nape however given the um covid issues everybody's dealing with a lot of the nape procedures have been greatly delayed so typically in a nape year by may districts have found out that one or more of their schools have been sampled and by june the schools have gotten letters to see that they've been sampled right now it's last week in august and schools have not been or districts have not been notified if they um have been sampled or not so if you maybe have been an assessment director in a different school or something along those lines um and you're thinking about nate wondering if you've your school has been sampled nobody has been notified yet so um don't feel like you're behind the loop on that um go ahead matt um when the so at this point we're assuming nate is going to go on we're we're going full steam ahead until they tell us not to um for the nape assessment so hopefully schools will be informed here in the beginning of september um districts first your superintendent will get a letter uh from dr jones as they think that some of the schools in their district have been sample selected for sampling and then the principals and assessment directors um principals will get notified and the principal is going to be asked to select somebody at their building to be a school or a test coordinator for nape and then that coordinator will work with me quite a bit in all the preparations for nape so a lot of times that is the assessment director that gets tacked as the school coordinator um we we ask that principals don't serve as the school coordinator so um if you if your school does get sampled you may be hearing from your principal about that um i don't want to get too far into the weeds along those details but an information should be coming out soon um i will put my email address in the chat box and like matt said earlier um as soon as we get a green light to share more information about nate i'll be submitting a lot of information to that assessment newsletter that matt talked about um we really feel like that's a great way to get information out and of course your district superintendent and principal will be receiving letters from the department via email most likely if your school has been selected are there any questions on that or if there are you can certainly send me an email i think i got off on the slide that you were on oh that's okay because i wasn't following the slides very well that's my fault um i should mention i can i can mention on the on the slide here um a lot of this information about how the test is administered will be available in communications from [Music] the state department and then from nape directly if your school has been sampled or if the schooling district has been sampled but i will mention that um the nape assessment um just kind of like with our state assessments um you know students are able to have accommodations um these are the accommodations that were offered in 2019 now uh beth shilts and i and um youthfield via amanda johnson will be discussing and clarifying the accommodations for um for students that are maybe on an iep or 504 students that are um working through some language barriers um and a 504 obviously but an iep does not um preclude a student from taking the test nor does some language barriers so there are accommodations for those and we will be updating that as it you know this fall especially um what typically happens for nate administration is that a field team will come into your school and they bring tablets for the students to take assessments they bring earphones or earbuds for the students they bring all the equipment of course if your school has been sampled um we will submit a roster of your students in the fall and around christmas time your district will your school will receive a list of the students that have been elected um we don't select them we don't do any of the selecting it's all done at the national level um and then the school will have an opportunity to look through that student list and and if the school feels like a student cannot complete the test for a specific reason and the student can or this district can submit um an exclusion for that student and i'll be reviewing those as well um to make sure that everything's appropriate so there's a lot of preparation work that goes in ahead of time before the field staff would come into your school something that is different with nape this year is in the past this school has kind of given up a window of time that they would like to have a field staff uh come in and then the staff will set the nate will send the date and say here's the date that's been selected and for the district can kind of work around it but this year they're giving schools a bit more flexibility in selecting assessment dates within that assessment window and the field staff will do their best to um comply with that and we're looking at that nationally because there are some states uh i mean obviously this first semester but that are nobody's even in buildings um so it's hard to say what second semester will look like and so trying to provide as many um flexibilities as possible within that um so like i said that's a lot of details that you'll need to know if your school gets selected and if they do then you'll be hearing a lot more from me and we'll go through a lot of these details a lot more there may be some of you here on the call today whose schools aren't selected so a lot of this information won't be pertinent to you today but if your school is has been selected you should be finding out soon and then you'll be hearing a lot more from me first starting with your superintendent then your building principal and then um your building principal will name a testing coordinator so if you're selected you'll hear more from me on these details i think that's all i've got sorry matt i should have told you that i just kept talking no that's great uh i'm just kind of going through this load uh yeah and this will all be in the powerpoint too and if you do have questions jennifer did put her email in the chat so awesome thanks jennifer and with homeschool uh chris i will let you speak to that okay with the homeschool testing this is based on south dakota codified law you can see it there requires testing of 4th 8th and 11th grade students parents can supply their own test it just has to be a nationally known and standardized test and if they do that they just need to provide the results when they submit a waiver for next year examples of tests we get asked every year is act uh sat as lab are those acceptable yes those are all acceptable and then i know that in the past we've had someone use as long as the test has not been released it's acceptable we do have an issue if a test has been released well then you know those really aren't valid or reliable uh results but it's on the district to maintain the results you know within uh the students folder uh the state does supply the sat-10 and if the parent opts to use that then they have to go by the test window that's march 22nd to april 16th if they're supplying their own tests then that test window doesn't mean anything to them but you need to pretty much send on a letter to the parents letting them know hey you have a student in grade 4 8 or 11 will they be taking the state supplied home school test or are you providing your own order what you would need that you know get your numbers order what you need in mid february with the testing waived last spring odds are you're going to have a lot of the tests already on hand and uh if you do you know don't order more than you need because there could be a change in the test and you just wasted a lot of education dollars on tests that won't be needed but when you do get the test the parents have to come in and pick it up in person they cannot be mailed out anywhere has to be in person so if you have parents we've had cases where they're traveling during the test window maybe they're in texas or california or something and they ask well can you mail the test and it's like well no you have to pick it up in person so you can sign a security agreement and they ask what do i do it's like well then you will have to supply your own test after uh the tests are completed they would return everything to you and then you have to contact us at the d to get an invoice to ship it in for it to be scored if you send it in without an invoice from the oe pearson who is the vendor for sat10 will want to charge you for the scoring so there are more uh directions on the homeschool testing website that was just recently updated like just last week with all the different steps do you have to go through i think there's one more slide when i move forward please doesn't look doesn't work oh there isn't another slide no oh okay i thought but yeah it's like the deadline to um ship off the test is may 1st any test that you receive after may 1st we cannot guarantee that it will be scored so you'll have to make sure usually give them the window it closes april 16th they should get the test back to you by that following week by the 23rd and then if not then you know you have until the following week pretty much because may 1st is on a saturday next year pretty much you'll have until the 30th feeder mailed off and that includes contacting us so that you can get the invoice and all that other fun stuff so that's it for the home school and i was gonna say chris if you want i can share the website if it's easier to see there yeah if you want go ahead and click uh for parents because there are directions there for the parents whether they choose to use the state provided sat 10 or their own test and then there's also for the district assessment coordinators all the different directions there and when the scores are available you will have to log into the pearson system and download the results yourself but that's pretty much with all of our systems you'll have to log into the systems to download the results but yeah we will let you know when your results are available and then you can go in and download them and if you click on documents that's where the security form is located and that has been updated for the 2021 for the school year and there's also the if they need the math or there was yeah it's two different math reference sheets for middle school and high school and you can see on the directions they only take the tests that pertain to ela and math please tell the parents to not take the science or the social studies we do not contract for those so it's extra money extra education dollars to pay to have those scored so that's it for the home school awesome and while i'm out here i just wanted to show you so this is our website right here this is the all the different assessments that i was telling you about um i wanted to show you so the south dakota assessment gateway you'll want to make sure to bookmark this there's resources for students and families educators technology coordinators we discussed this how secure browsers need to be updated on on all student devices this is where that happens so work with your tech coordinator to make sure that all secure browsers get updated the secure browsers from last year they will only be uh they'll only work until the end of this month and then they will not work anymore so you will need to make sure to get these updated and then just know yeah all the resources here educators if i click on that that proctor certification course that training for the math and ela which i was talking about that is right there the practice and training site the testing resources where all the manuals are and everything and then tide is what we are talking about tomorrow so i'll leave that cliffhanger that's where you're going to spend a lot of your time creating rosters and getting everything set up for the assessments so with that uh that is all i have um if i'll open it up for questions or anyone on our team do you have anything else to share or anything you want them to know about the website oh i guess i one thing i forgot about is uh on the website this key assessment milestones calendar if i were you i would go out and print this this is a very important document i like it because it's just the big picture it shows everything so it has all your assessments here as a calendar and then notice at the bottom it has important due dates when trainings are when to test windows open and when test windows close so you can see just with one document when all these things are so you can see when access trainings are ela meth you can see what everything is yeah just a great document to use so definitely recommend printing this one and with that uh what questions do you have i'll check the chat uh jennifer there's a questionnaire about nape if we do not get selected for nape will we still give that tester only if chosen yes if you do not get selected for nate you will not have to give the assessment in any way only the schools that are selected and it's only grades four and eight um and your school could be selected for grade four or for grade eight or for both um but unless you get selected you will not have to do anything with it yep any other questions all right well i'll end it there thank you for your time thank you for joining hopefully you can join us for webinars two and three tomorrow and webinar 4 on thursday so have a good day

Frequently asked questions

Learn everything you need to know to use airSlate SignNow eSignatures like a pro.

How do you make a document that has an electronic signature?

How do you make this information that was not in a digital format a computer-readable document for the user? " "So the question is not only how can you get to an individual from an individual, but how can you get to an individual with a group of individuals. How do you get from one location and say let's go to this location and say let's go to that location. How do you get from, you know, some of the more traditional forms of information that you are used to seeing in a document or other forms. The ability to do that in a digital medium has been a huge challenge. I think we've done it, but there's some work that we have to do on the security side of that. And of course, there's the question of how do you protect it from being read by people that you're not intending to be able to actually read it? " When asked to describe what he means by a "user-centric" approach to security, Bensley responds that "you're still in a situation where you are still talking about a lot of the security that is done by individuals, but we've done a very good job of making it a user-centric process. You're not going to be able to create a document or something on your own that you can give to an individual. You can't just open and copy over and then give it to somebody else. You still have to do the work of the document being created in the first place and the work of the document being delivered in a secure manner."
