If someone pronounces SQL as "S-Q-L", do you assume they aren't experienced in it?
Not Applicable. Does not compute. Error.I feel like this argument is similar to the pronunciation of European cars amongst U.S. culture, specifically the pronunciation of Porsche...It is not hard, U.S. citizens. There are two syllables in Porsche: "Por" and "Shuh." Put them together, and you get Porsche. It's not Porsh. It's not Parsh. It is Por-Shuh. Porsche.First, SQL stands for: Structured Query Language.SQL is not a word: it is an initialism, which is an abbreviation formed from the initial letters of other words and pronounced as a word (e.g. ASCII, NASA).It is likely that this "guy" has never used SQL and is only echoing what he heard someone else say.Whether you say SEQUEL or Ess Que Ell: your pronunciation has absolutely nothing to do with your experience or anything else [for that matter].Now for some history, thanks to Patrycja Dybka at Vertabelo...Relational databases came into existence with E.F. Codd’s 1970 publication “A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks.”While Codd’s ideas were remarkable for the time, in San Jose, California, two colleagues named Donald D. Chamberlin and Raymond F. Boyce were developing SQUARE (Specifying Queries As Relational Expressions) – a query language.By 1974 they published the query language SEQUEL (Structured English Query Language) based on SQUARE.Unfortunately, due to trademark violations on the acronym SEQUEL, which was already registered by the Hawker Siddeley aircraft company, the name was changed to Structured Query Language and abbreviated as SQL.In 1979, not long after IBM’s prototype, the first SQL product, ORACLE V2, was released by Relational Software (which was later renamed to Oracle Corporation).Within weeks of the Oracle V2 release, IBM released its first offering, System R, using a new query language called SEQUEL developed by IBM. This was followed by SQL/DS in 1981, and finally DB2 1983, which remains IBM’s flagship RDMS product to this day.Chamberlin says “Ess-Cue-Ell,” and he gets an extra vote because he’s the co-developer of SQL.Back to the present...I say both, depending on who I'm talking to.But as a rule of thumb, I tend to pronounce programming languages the way their respective creator(s) does/do.If the creator of SQL says S-Q-L: there's your answer.Ess-Cue-Ell prevails!

Is Slack or Asana a better Project management solution?
If you're in college or in a school, Slack is useful but the regression is it's no better than mainstream services like Whatsapp. And, you need to realize that Slack is just a communication tool while Asana is a project management app. Asana does a better job in managing your to-do list while Slack is just excellent for communicating with teams across the globe.Asana was a good project management tools until I've encountered the following circumstances:It's expensive like Trello if you have a small team to run.If you're a Gantt chart person, Asana probably isn't for you.Communication is awesome about Asana that you can mention team members and directly talk about a project or task right on the project/task. But the downside is - if the marked task is completed, and you've already archived it from inbox it's very frustrating to find your conversation back from a completed task. You have to scroll down all the task to find your conversation.I've found the visual task of Asana isn't that kind of friendly. In that arena, Trello has much better features than Asana.I'm not a to-do listing person, but the biggest criticism from entrepreneurs is that Asana tends to overload them and their teams with tasks.Asana is a bit slow when multiple tasks are on the dashboard. Asana is not suitable for complex project. User reviews on the web are not very cool about its speed. But then Brief appeared as the new PMS tool with the proper concept of Kanban method & productivity.Brief helps to focus on your day, teamwork to achieve more professionally. Brief is not just about replacing email, it contains task and calendar integration! Compare these properties with the other PMS(Project Management Tool) tools on the market. And, I've experienced these:It's easy to use a superb precise dashboard containing to-do list , team chat, video chat, team hubs & file sharing. All you need is on your hand.It lets you share any kind of files of any size- no need to zip the file or use Dropbox for sharing.Managing a large team is quite easy. It allows you to turn messages into tasks. With the synced calendar, you can plan a project without missing your deadline.Elimination of the learning curve that most project leadership instruments required. And, team communication could be enhanced through group and private chats.Get "Helicopter" view, create hubs centralized, sort and priority tasks depending on your necessity. It works as a basic messenger with some great and effective features.Entrepreneurs, Freelancers who use hourly app or meter can use Dark Mood feature without straining their eyes.Brief is currently available for Web, iOS, Android, Mac and, Windows version is on the way. It's available for apple: Apple brief chatThough Brief is a kid in that arena, it has some limitations to sort out but BRIEF created a great impact upon users as a Project Management Software.Let's give it a try if you are looking for a better alternative to Slack or Asana.

What's something that you should never say to an I.T. person?
“Backups? What do you mean, ‘Backups’”?“Oh, yeah, I saw that thing asking me to update my computer. I just closed it.”Variants: “Oh, yeah, I saw that thing asking me to update my anti-virus. I just closed it. Did I do something bad?”“Oh, yeah, I saw that thing asking me to start the backup of my computer. I just closed it. Did I do something bad?”“Oh, yeah, I saw that thing telling me not to reboot my computer. I rebooted anyway. Did I do something bad?”“Oh, yeah, I saw that thing telling me not to turn off my computer. I did it anyway. Did I do something bad?”“Where is the ‘any’ key?”“You mean that email, offering a million dollars if I clicked the link? Of course I clicked it! Who doesn’t want a million dollars?”“You have no idea what you are doing!”Variants: “You’re an idiot”“How’d you become a computer tech? You’re so incompetent!”“My 7-year-old could do a better job than you!” (So why isn’t your seven year-old here now fixing your computer? Oh, right he’s behind a year in kindergarten doing ‘nap-time’ just now).— and then I fix the computer anyway.“Pay you? But you didn’t fix the computer the ‘right’ way!” (Usually said because the client is a cheapskate and chiseller, and doesn’t want to pay the bill).“But we’ve always done it that way!” (usually, obsoletely, inefficiently, or even incompetently).“The last tech did it differently” (So why isn’t HE here doing the work?)“Can I watch?” (No).“Have you tried … ?” (This can actually be helpful, once in every 20 times it’s said).“I know you spent an extra three hours, but can I just pay you for the first hour?” (Why? Are you a cheapskate?).“I prefer paying for MS Office than for that ‘free’ LibreOffice. If it’s free, it’s probably no good.” (Really? You want to pay for mediocre software?)“Ubuntu? What the hell crap software is that?” (Written ON THIS SITE by a die-hard Windows fanboy).“Linux is junk” (Yeah? Why does it run 70–80% of the Internet?)“signNow Flash is really beneficial to websites” (Said by a VERY new web-designer)“Windows is better than Linux/BSD/UNIX” (No comment).“WIndows is the best software in the world! It’s extremely secure and very unlikely to crash” (Again, no comment).“No-one uses Linux any more” (Again, Yeah? Why does it run 70–80% of the Internet?)“I know you’ve been working really hard to fix my computer; could you just please do …..” (Note to self: be prepared to do at least a dozen more tasks — for free).“Oh, thanks for your work in fixing my computer. But [long pause] … I don’t have any way to pay you. Can I pay you $5 every other month?” (She owed me $105; At that rate, she’d have paid me off in three-and-a-half years).“I have a ______ computer that’s ___ years out of date. Can you fix it with new parts?”(Said by an MCSE student): “Hey, when the 90-day version of Windows Server runs out, how do you reinstall it?” (What the HELL are you going to classes for? And what sort of crappy school is it that doesn’t teach its students how to install server software to future system administrators?)Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

Is Hortonworks or Cloudera Better for Hadoop Certification? Which has more credibility? What are the differences?
Either. But why don't you go with MapR instead?I have experience with Cloudera training & certification, (which was great, but I'm sure it cost my company quite a lot of money then, given it was classroom training and they had to get Cloudera trainers from abroad). The tag of being a Cloudera Certified Developer for Apache Hadoop definitely certainly gave me confidence and some sense of satisfaction, but I guess what eventually mattered was I got a way to learn Hadoop well. However, not every company (or individual) can afford to pay for such training. Also there isn't much flexibility with time or resources for the learning process.MapR, one of the top ranked Hadoop distributions, offers free on-demand training (see Hadoop On-demand Training Courses). They have a wide variety of courses and the course material is detailed and I found them a bit more interesting (they have some new concepts on FileSystem side, ...) . I've completed a few and it was lot easier to manage my learning. I had the freedom of choosing my time and the topic I wanted to focus on. They have follow-up quizzes after each lesson and eventually one could register for certification.I think this would be a better way to go.p.s. I currently work for MapR. But these are my personal thoughts and based on experiences from before.
