a non-profit clinic here at the University the law school was designed to give a lot of hands-on experience to law students it's designed to give them a real-life taste of the law but the practice experience will be like simultaneously it's intended to help the community to serve nonprofits area charities and give them some guidance and some assistance generally speaking what we do is we do a legal health assessment for an organization and so we look at their Articles of Incorporation their bylaws the way they do business to make sure they comply with both Virginia and federal law and then we also take on short-term clients and do little assignments for them via draft their articles or help them incorporate for the first time so it's been a great experience I think the nonprofit clinic will be great experience for me after I graduate from law school not only dealing with managers on a daily basis and getting used to keeping my time logs of my time but also interacting with clients and the real life issues they have which aren't always complex legal issues but a lot of times communication issues or issues within the nonprofit itself we have six students each of them puts in about a hundred twenty hours over the course of the year for a total of between 15 and 20 clients at the rates that these students are going to be charging is first-year associates were adding in the realm of about a hundred fifty thousand dollars in value to the local nonprofit community their clinic we think that's pretty cool
