that building that is one of the best museums in north carolina if not the best but today we're at the museum of history and i love history so should be really good [Music] this is thomas day he carolinians were on both the sides of the battle though the fighting between north carolinians was part of a larger war it reflected long-standing divisions between them for decades they had differed over north carolina's relationship to the british government and how to respond to british policy as frustration with great britain grew divisions in north carolina only deepened this division and frustration was echoed in all 13 american colonies [Music] smoldering resentment began to break into revolutionary fire [Music] in north carolina some resisted the revolution others embraced it men from across the colony gathered a provincial congress in newark to declare that the british government french in any war as great britain sought to force the colonies to submit to its rule and its taxes many colonists pushed back demanding no taxation without representation in solidarity with the resistance 51 ladies of eden to north carolina formed the non-importation association declaring a boycott of british tea [Music] the patriots stumped the loyalists from the one day from the british forces their victory prevented the british from invading the south it's where a lot of the music comes from that i love a lot of traditional and bluegrass music has scottish and african roots whether some would like to believe that or not the banjo is from africa after a contentious debate they voted to send delegates to the continental congress in philadelphia and empower them to declare it fiddle is italian mandolin is the first colony to publicly declare foreign a lot of the tombs though no lots of ways ask your grandparents questions about their lives i would like to interview a neighbor about historical events they're from the dominican republic be a collector collect things that tell stories collect frisbees postcards buttons toys teacups and memories put together a scrapbook or a time capsule about your life and what's going on in your world pieces of the past what are you toy i tell you that blow up your house etch a sketch of course and then light bright man those are pretty neat dough factory yeah whoa oh they got a giant light bright that's not going right now oh
