In all 50 states and territories of the US "Electronic Signatures" are viewed as enforceable and binding to all parties to the agreement(s).  The electronic facsimile of a cardholder's signature is not just an artifact of Flint, but also of Square, PayPal and other mobile payment companies.  You will also witness signature pads at all large retailers in the US.The First Electronic Signature Was Morse CodeThe case law signNowes back to the 1850s in the US where Morse Code was transmitted via Telegraphy [1].Saturday, June 10th, 1871,  Samuel F. Morse sending his last telegraph message, his signature: "S ...  F .-.  B -...       M --  O . .  R . ..  S ...  E ." to a standing ovation.1869 And The First Legal Test Of An Electronic SignatureIn 1869 the New Hampshire Supreme Court decided a case that challenged if a telegraphed contract was valid.  In the findings:"It makes no difference whether that operator writes the offer or the acceptance,  with a steel pen an inch long attached to an ordinary penholder, or whether his pen be a copper wire a thousand miles long. In either case the thought is communicated to the paper by the use of the finger resting upon the pen; nor does it make any difference that in one case common record ink is used, while in the other case a more subtle fluid, known as electricity, performs the same office."This ruling has formed the foundation in US law all the way up to the Facsimile machine and the current finger signatures that are common to the current smartphone payment apps.  The US codified the law more clearly in the E-Sign Act ( the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act} from 2001 [2].  This expands upon the prior Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA) [3].The E-Sign Act states:(a) IN GENERAL.—Notwithstanding any statute, regulation, or other rule of law (other than this title and title II), with respect to any transaction in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce—(1) a signature, contract, or other record relating to such transaction may not be denied legal effect, validity, or enforce- ability solely because it is in electronic form; and(2) a contract relating to such transaction may not be denied legal effect, validity, or enforceability solely because an electronic signature or electronic record was used in its formation.A Payment Card Transaction Is A Signed ContractA Payment Card transaction is a contract between the cardholder and the card issuing bank and indirectly the merchant.  When a cardholder authorizes a bank for the use of a Payment Card they are also authorizing your approval of all transactions with or without a signature. Thus at the very least there is cardholder authorization for a transaction that was conducted using an Electronic Signature regardless of the E-Sign Act.  But with the E-Sign Act the mark would be considered valid unless the cardholder contests or otherwise repudiates the transaction.  This would be considered a Chargeback and it is another thing entirely (see: Brian Roemmele's answer to How do you prevent people from using chargebacks as a method for refunds?).Apple And A New IOS "Home Button", A Finger Print Electronic Signature SystemThe electronic signature will continue to evolve. There is no specific procedure prescribed for selling mobile phones.Selling of the device is just like any commodity.Since each mobile device has an IMEI number, just prepare a "memorandum of sale and purchase", mentioning the brand, model, year of manufacture, IMEI number, invoice number, invoice date,original price and dealer's name and address from whom it was purchased, the price at which it is sold presently, the full name and address of the seller and purchaser, mode of payment of the deal. Mention whatever details are available. Prepare two copies, to be signed by both and each retained by the Buyer and Seller.It is preferable to know the identity of the buyer with some proof.

What Estonia can give to the world is the experience of building digital society.Being a fairly small country (population of 1.3 mln in 2013), Estonia has an advantage of introducing such innovations that would be much more difficult to carry out in larger countries. Most remarkable of those are related to IT services such as e-government. Here is a brief outline of current achievements.Every citizen has an ID card, which is in essence a certificate, a public-private key pair. ID-card can be used to sign documents. Such digital signature has the same legal power as a handwritten signature. This means that you do not have go anywhere to give your signature - you can do it online. Also, using the ID-card one can authenticate on all public service websites as well as in the internet banks, online shops, etc. ID-card makes electronic voting possible.An alternative to ID card is Mobile-ID, which allows secure authentication (just like ID-card) using your own mobile phone with a special SIM-card. This service is supported by all mobile operators.All public services are integrated among each other (this is called X-Road). For example, I pay my taxes online. I click a link in the internet bank to send my home loan information to the tax system. The tax system will take some additional information on the estate I have from land and estate registry. I am presented a final calculation of tax returns that I only have to confirm (digitally). All this takes about 5 minutes. The trick is that such solutions do not require big-data technologies in Estonia - a good relational database will do. This, however, does not diminish the work of all the developers. I completed my Masters in the summer of 2018 from Northeastern University. I majored in Engineering Management, which was a year long course. As I write this answer, I have completed 18 months in USA and without a second thought, it has been an incredibly challenging yet exciting journey. Unlike many of my friends, I did not have any family in USA other than my then boyfriend(who happens to be my husband now.. :)). There were times when I was at an emotional low and wanted to head back to the comfort of a loving family and familiar faces. But as time passed I have realized that out of uncomfortable situations comes the greatest learnings of life.Circling back to the question at hand, I would say the following are the major problems I faced as an Indian student in USA:Home sickness: At some point after you arrive in USA, home sickness creeps in. For some, this point comes after initial few weeks and for others it might come a little later. But there are definitely times when you would miss home and want nothing more than a couple of weeks with your family. I personally felt homesick often during my initial days until I found a stable friend circle.Indian food: So this is a big one. We Indians are used to “Maa k hath ka khana” which is freshly made with oozing desi ghee. Well, in USA, its neither Mom made, nor fresh. Most of the Indian grocery stores have shelves filled with frozen food which stays there for months at a stretch. The few Indian restaurants that you would find in your city might nowhere be near to the restaurants we find in every corner of India.. which reminds me of STREET FOOD! Till date, I have never had good pani puris or vada pav or chat papdi in USA!Managing expenses: The magnitude of this problem depends on 2 factors- 1) your pocket money that you get from your parents and 2) whether or not you have a part time job. Almost all of my peers used to apply for part time jobs but only 30% would actually end up with one. On an average if you get a $1000 pocket money(in a city like Boston, where rent takes up 50%-60% of that amount), you would be barely left with anything by end of month to even think of luxuries. Add to that the habit of Dollar to Rupee conversion.. it took me almost a semester to get rid of this annoying habit. Imagine paying 300 Rs for a Lays packet! Phew!Coping with cultural difference: There is a big list of cultural norms in USA which, if practiced in India can cause havoc. For eg- small talk! I have grown up constantly being advised - “beta, anjaan logo se baat mat karna”! In USA, you will see every passing-by person flash a smile and trying to engage in small talks- starting from your uber driver to the cashier at a grocery store.. it is a norm here and is considered polite. Similarly there are other cultural differences in terms of dressing sense, accent, the way you are greeted.. which takes considerable amount of time for a person to decipher and later adapt to.Job search: This is where the real struggle begins. I graduated from NIT Jalandhar in India and getting a job was easy as all I had to do was to maintain a decent GPA and interview with the companies that visited my campus for recruitment. In USA, there is no concept of PLACEMENT. Job search is a super hectic and time consuming process which starts with networking/socializing with the right people. I started my job search in Nov 2017 and landed an offer in June 2018, just a few days before my graduation. I have friends who are still struggling to get a job. Given the H1b restrictions and ever changing policies around the same, the job market is no longer favorable for students on OPT.The above mentioned points are just a high-level analysis of the problems I faced during my student days. Though I have found ways to deal with most of them over time, the cultural difference piece is something that takes longer..years at times, and I am still adapting. I would however add, the past 18 months have actually made me a better person in terms of humility, compassion and acceptance of diversity. I do not plan to settle in USA, but I do plan to take back great lessons home and work on implementing a lot of good things that I have experienced here.Cheers!
