What is the legality behind the "Trespassers Will Be Shot" sign?
The legality is that there isn't any protected right to shoot trespassers unless you are a Federal cop on a Federal installation, and even then there are rules of engagement. That's for crossing your property lines. If someone breaks into your house, that's not trespassing, that's B & E. In most locations if you are inside the house, you have the right to protect yourself by the use of force, up to and including deadly force, against an intruder. Most locations—but not all. Some localities have ignorant laws requiring you to flee your own home instead of shooting the intruder. This is just about the stupidest law I can think of regarding self-defense, but it is on the books in many areas of the US. The best thing you can do is call your local authorities and be brought up to speed on your area's laws.Almost nowhere can you shoot a property boundary trespasser, even if he's cleaning out your barn with a U-Haul. The reasoning (sound reasoning, I might add) is that if you are inside the house, and someone is outside your house stealing your truck, you are typically in no imminent danger, thus shooting the bastard is assault, not self-defense. Now if he's shooting at your house, that's different. In most areas, you have no obligation to flee your home if you are being attacked within it, even if your attacker is outside, and have every right to shoot back. Just be sure to call 911 on your way to fetch your gun.You can put up the sign; I saw them all my childhood and teenage years, and I've even had a farmer unload some rock salt at me for boosting a watermelon from his patch 1/2-mile from his house. People think the signs are cutesie little decorations and get a good laugh from them, but the sign doesn't alter the legal reality. Shoot a property boundary trespasser, and you're both going to jail...and the charges against you will be the more serious. If he's not threatening you, you let him take the truck and call 911 first and your insurance man next.

Why do some drivers, on entering a highway, stop in the acceleration lane? Why are they sitting there with their blinkers on?
These are exactly the kinds of idiots that cause traffic jams, accidents, and lead to road rage. They’ve been poorly instructed how to drive properly, and generally lack common sense in general. When you’re entering the acceleration lane to a highway, you are supposed to slowly enter the lane, judge the volume of traffic and its speed, and then accelerate and merge when safe to do so.In the event that the shoulder lane, or outside lane is already full, stopped or moving too fast to safely merge, then you are supposed to slowly drive down the acceleration lane and then merge when safe to do s...

What can I do? I moved in over a month ago and my landlord said he forgot to give me a background check, and now he says I can't
I am unaware of any jurisdiction in the US where you can order someone out in two days (barring an emergency court order). The only exception I can think of is if you are breaking some sort of law by living in the location. For example, people on sex offender registries are often not allowed to live near schools. (I am not saying you are on a registry, I am just giving an example). If you signed a lease, the landlord must honor the lease unless you violate it. Then he must take the appropriate steps to evict you. He still wouldn’t be able to tell you to get out in two days.If you do not have a written lease, then your lease is most likely month-to-month. The landlord must follow the law of the state and county in which the property is located to remove you.His failure to do a background check on you does not take away the fact that you have a lease. And he must obey that lease, whether it is in writing or just based on state/county law.I suggest you do some research on landlord/tenant law in the county and state in which you live. You should be able to find documentation on the eviction process and what a landlord has to do to remove you.EditI suppose it is possible he is claiming you lied on your application and committed some sort of fraud by concealing information. In that case, he still has to properly evict you. Based on your comments, I am thinking this is where the landlord is going.

Who is the dumbest law enforcement officer you have ever encountered?
The dumbest law enforcement officer I ever encountered was my second cousin, Carl Henreid (not his real name). Carl was five years older than I am (he died several years ago). We lived in a very small town, population about 950, in rural Pennsylvania.Carl had three main problems in life: he was not very bright; he had no people skills, and he took himself way too seriously. These shortcomings made it hard for him to find and keep a full-time job.Carl struggled in school but eventually received a high school diploma. He tried enlisting in the Army but was rejected for two reasons: mental and physical. He was grossly overweight.Carl made his first bid for greatness in his early 20s, when he joined the volunteer fire company. It quickly became clear that Carl was not cut out to be a firefighter so the company made him a fire policeman. He could direct traffic at a fire scene.Carl was delighted. He immediately bought himself a fire police uniform, complete with shiny badge. He outfitted his car with flashing blue lights and equipped it with a CB radio, siren, flares, fire extinguishers, first aid supplies, and much more. And he wore his uniform all the time, just in case there was a fire. Before long, Carl volunteered to be a supernumerary police officer. Now he could have red lights on his car and carry a gun – still a scary thought all these years later. His utility belt filled out with handcuffs, mace, a nightstick, his pistol (with plenty of extra bullets), and a police radio. He was seldom called to actual police service, yet he was always on duty; always in uniform, always on patrol.Carl could be seen at school crossings directing the Safety Patrol; at every kind of public event, and at many private events. I once hired him to direct parking at a party – mainly so he would not hassle my guests about where they parked. Our little town had only two part-time police officers but when one of them resigned, Carl took his place. Now he was an honest-to-God sworn officer. One Saturday night when I was in my late teens, several friends and I were cruising around town in our cars. All of a sudden, we see flashing red lights and hear the wail of a siren. It was Carl; he had set up a roadblock to stop our three-car procession.“Carl, what’s this about?” I asked him.“It’s Officer Henreid to you,” he replied, acting as if he didn’t know me.“Okay, Officer Henreid,” I replied, playing along and ignoring the fact that he was my second cousin. “What’s this about?”“It’s about ‘parading without a permit’!”, he snorted. No it wasn’t: it was really about the mufflers on one of my friends’ 1965 Pontiac GTO. Carl always hated that car and its driver. Carl gave all of us citations charging us with “Parading Without A Permit.” The town’s part-time Police Chief promptly nullified the tickets when he heard the story. After several years, the old Chief retired and Carl became part-time Chief of Police. Now he had an actual police cruiser – with a gun rack and a cage separating the front and back seats – and his uniform resembled that of a banana republic generalissimo.Sometime in the mid-1970s, a dead body turned up in a cornfield outside of town. The person who discovered the body called the police and, of course, got Carl on the phone. Carl could not believe his good fortune; he had lived his life for this moment. There was a murder (he was sure, which meant there was a murderer on the loose) and it was in his jurisdiction. He would catch the criminal and be celebrated throughout the county!Carl called the State Police for backup, dispatched an ambulance to pick up the dead body, and raced toward the ‘crime scene,’ siren blaring, lights flashing. He would arrive first and be the officer-in-charge of an actual murder investigation. After he arrived and secured the area where the body was found, Carl went back to his cruiser to radio his findings to the State Police. The next thing anybody knew, Carl was on his radio screaming, “Officer down! Officer down!” That call brought just about every police officer in the county to the scene. It sounded like Carl had been mortally wounded. In a way, he nearly was. In his zeal to make his radio call, Carl plopped himself into the seat of his cruiser and sat on a traffic flare. The flare went off and Carl’s backside erupted in flames. The front seat of the cruiser caught fire and Carl fell out of the car to the ground, writhing in pain as he tried to extinguish his self-immolated bottom. The seat of his pants was completely burned away; he suffered second- and third-degree burns on his posterior. The ambulance, the State Police, and most officers in the county arrived just in time to extinguish the cruiser fire and load Carl, in a now-painful and very exposed bottoms-up position, onto a gurney and into the ambulance. Glory would have to wait for another day. The dead body would have to wait for another ambulance.Carl’s injuries ended his tenure as part-time Chief of Police, but they did not end his law enforcement career. After a long period of convalescence, he became a Justice of the Peace, able to swear oaths, sign warrants, hear traffic and misdemeanor cases, marry people, and more. From that point until the end of his life, Carl insisted on being referred to as “Judge Henreid” and addressed personally as “Your Honor.” And he never saw the humor in the story of the day Chief Carl Henreid sat on his flare.

What do you think of this NBC article which calls for the regulation of hate speech?
What do you think of this NBC article which calls for the regulation of hate speech?Opinion | Is the First Amendment too broad? The case for regulating hate speechIt’s idiotic rhetoric. The very first line of the article is “Must we defend Nazis?”Followed immediately by an incredibly disingenuous “For many free speech advocates, the answer is not just ‘yes,’ but ‘hell, yes.’”There is just so much stupid in this article, I’m going to focus on the highlights. They mischaracterize the argument for Free Speech. They put their words in our mouths so that they can argue. “It's precisely because they are so loathed that Nazis must be vigorously defended, the argument goes.” No. We’re not arguing to defend the loathsome, we’re arguing that what is loathsome to one may not be loathsome to all. It is those who are in power who get to determine what constitutes “hate speech”, so before you go banning words that upset you, consider what will happen when the other party is in power and can use those laws you wrote against you. Free speech is valuable precisely because it protects unpopular speech, be that the vitriol of Neo-Nazis or the radical words of Martin Luther King Jr.Then we get this gem. “The best way to preserve lizards is not to preserve hawks” The argument is nonsensical. It is a false analogy, entirely unrelated to the matter at hand, and being deliberately used to dismiss valid arguments. Then, they try to “prove” that hate speech causes real harm. “For example, a John Hopkins study published in 2013 concluded that being exposed to racism can lead to high blood pressure and stress among African Americans.” Well gee, reading this garbage certainly spikes my blood pressure. This article should be banned as hate speech, because it harmed me. Jon Davis just wrote an excellent answer on to this question where he address the difference between harm, as I would use the term, and “harm” as idiot ideologues misuse the term.“Probably the most popular counterargument to regulating speech is the slipper slope argument.” I’m going to take puerile pleasure in pointing out the spelling mistake here. However, it turns out we’re right. Just look at the case of Lindsey Shepard. of Wilfrid Laurier University. She was accused of violating Hate Speech laws in Canada for showing a video to her students by one Jordan Peterson, without first telling them what to think of the video. The slippery slope isn’t hypothetical, it’s happening right now.As I said in Murphy Barrett's answer to Why do conservatives feel the need for a right to hate speech? Can they not keep their feelings to themselves? It’s not the right to hate speech we care about. It’s the right to free speech, of which hate speech is an unfortunate side effect.Free speech is vital to liberty and a free society.Free speech that only protects non-offensive words is about as useful as a solar powered flashlight. When you need it, it doesn’t work.Consider, what is hate speech? Who decides? You? Us? Them? People who prattle on about hate speech seem to always forget that they won’t always be the ones in power. It’s great, when your side gets to decide what is “hateful” based on your values, your limits, and your taboos. But what happens when the other party is in power? What happens when hate speech is based on their values, their limits, and their taboos? Before conceding to the State any power or authority, you must consider first what happens if the other party would use that same power against you. What do you plan to do when hate speech is illegal, but is defined as advocating for the murder of the unborn (abortion), denying the Lord God Almighty (atheism), and sedition (criticizing the US in any way)?Do you still want to ban hate speech? What you call hate speech, as part of free speech, has to be protected. There is no way to write a law that bans “hate speech” and protects “good speech”, apart from personal opinion, and that is no way to write laws. The law must be consistent, and treat people equally, else it is a tyrannical law subject to the whims of the rulers.Neonazis, disgusting swine that they are, must be allowed to march in Skokie so that great men like Martin Luther King Jr. can March on Washington.Look, you don’t have to like what assholes say. You don’t have to give them a soapbox. But you cannot take their own soapbox from them, beat them, fine them, jail them, just for saying things you don’t like. You ignore them, or you prove them wrong.“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”-1st Amendment, US Constitution

Joshua Wong said Hong Kong is just like West Berlin during the Cold War, can he successfully convince the German government to s
This sorry excuse for a man with a slapable face is really getting on my goat !! To compare this self inflicted situation to Berlin in the 80’s is laughable. There is no cold war today and HK is certainly not repressed. In my 75 years of globe trotting, I have found no more safe and peaceful place than in China or Hong Kong. This mindless little shit is simply craving to be infamous. The point is the core values enshrined in the present common law system expires in June 2047. There is no mechanism for it to be continued after this date . No ifs and buts. In 27 years time HK reverts to “one c...

When trained animals are used in U.S. movies, is an animal rights activist on the set?
First, please understand the difference between animal rights and animal welfare. What is the difference between animal welfare and animal rights?Ok, on to your question! In the United States, animal rights activists and organizations are not law enforcement. Animal rights activists do not have the authority to make arrests or impose legal judgements on others.Additionally, most animal rights activists and organizations do not have the qualifications required to work directly with trained animals, or the authority to evaluate the work of those who do.That said, you could be an animal rights activist who works in the film industry, who one day happens to find yourself on a set with an animal actor or two. But other than that instance, no, animal rights activists are not specifically asked to be on set when animal actors are used in US movies. This doesn’t mean that no one is looking out for animal actors. It is important for animals to be treated humanely and to be comfortable on set. Someone who has worked extensively with the animal and is familiar with the animal’s needs must be present at all times. In most cases, a certified veterinarian must be on set at all times as the animal actor must be evaluated every day for signs of injury or illness.[1]When you watch any movie involving animals, you may see this logo during the ending credits. This is the logo of American Humane (AH), an organization that sets out to protect animal rights and welfare during filming. Now before you get all pissy in the comments, please note: this is NOT an endorsement of American Humane. It is simply a fact that American Humane is the organization allowed on set, with the stated goal of protecting the rights and welfare of animal actors. If you don’t like that fact, don’t take it out on me. Thanks!Anyway, American Humane claims that they are present for about 70% of all productions that utilize animals in film/media.[2] It is also fair to say that they’ve set the industry standard in America for the safe and humane use of animals in film, the guidelines of which you can read HERE.American Humane has many views on the various aspects of humane animal treatment; if you would like to look through them, most are HERE: Position StatementsTo sum it up, animal rights activists as individuals are not required/asked to be on set when animals are involved, and neither are animal rights organizations with the possible exception of American Humane.Footnotes[1] https://www.americanhumane.org/a...[2] “No Animals Were Harmed”

THE GARDEN STATEThere are laws that vary from state to state called TOURING PRIVILEGES.In NJ I found a simplified description of the law without the confusing legal jargon which is present in so many of our statutes."Touring Privileges"Driving with Touring Privileges N.J.S.A. 39:3-17 establishes that drivers with driving credentials from a state other than New Jersey must present them to the police pursuant to a routine motor vehicle stop in Monroe, New Jersey, for example.A non-resident is only required to present an out of state license and registration.Note that a non-resident driving his or her own vehicle does not have to present an insurance card because there is no requirement in New Jersey to show proof of insurance on a vehicle that is NOT registered or principally garaged in New Jersey.A conviction of this charge carries a fine of up to $500 and up to 60 days in jail although courts do not impose a jail sentence for violation of this statute.Police also issue a summons under N.J.S.A. 39:3-17.1 to drivers who no longer live out of state yet fail to obtain a New Jersey driver's license within 60 days of moving to New Jersey. You will still have to obey posted speed limits and obey basic traffic laws like stopping at stop signs, signalling before turning, and the other basic rules of the road, regarding the safe operation of your vehicle.Hope this helps anyone planning on visiting the beautiful Garden State of New Jersey….. Fidelity what is esign consent?
what is it to a man that he shall give his assent to the things that he has written or said, or that he shall consent to what is written in his heart? For we have a better conscience than that. For as the apostle says, The conscience of a good man is, and it is clear, of God (Phil. 4:1). What is clear? what is a good conscience? what is clear? clear indeed is that when the thing is good, the conscience agrees with it. But what is the thing that is clear? the gospel (Acts 20:35) which is a word, and not an image.
Chapter 13.— Of the Word of God, What it Means and is Not, and What It is
I think, as I said before, that the word and the gospel are one, which is to say, that the gospel which is the word of God. And this is what is clear; for whoever agrees with it is of God. This then is clear to me by reason of what has already been shown; and I cannot help thinking that it is also evident to those who read it. But it is not easy to understand what the word of God means and is not. For if the word is God and God is God, the apostle would have said, Who is a fool? Who is he that is foolish? (Phil. 1:32.) For he would have said the apostle; Who is dumb? But what is he? What does he mean by 'who,' 'who,' he? Is he who was, or is he he who is? But if he is he, that is to say, the God who was and still is, then he is foolish; but if he is he who is dumb, and so has ceased to be the god of the whole world and has come forth into the world by his own power, then he has lost the knowl...
