What are electronic signatures used for?
The ETA does not contain a prescribed definition of what would be an ‘electronic signature’. Therefore, an electronic signature may take the form of an image of an individual’s handwritten signature, a typed name or a digital signature. There may be other forms as well. For example, the courts have held that a name appearing at the bottom of an email in normal typeface is a valid electronic signature.Section 9 of the ETA sets out three requirements for an electronic signature, being identification, reliability and consent:Identification is a question of fact, as the recipient must be able to identify the person signing (however, no formal verification of identity is required), and confirm that the person signing intends to be bound by the information communicated.Reliability is objectively determined by considering all the relevant circumstances and the purpose for which the electronic signature is required.Consent requires the counterparty to the document being electronically signed to agree to the signing party signing the document electronically. The case law demonstrates that this requirement is unlikely to require anything more than the counterparty using the chosen electronic mechanism, or engaging with the electronic execution process. To know more about Electronic signature visit at Digital Signature Devices, Software, Electronic Pads

signNow versus Echosign. Which do you feel is a better electronic signature service and why?
A lot of the postings here are quite dated -- and this is a really important question -- so I'll weigh in with a few considerations/thoughts. I want to make it clear that I work for signNow, and run the signNow EchoSign team. While this potentially invites skepticism, I've attempted to be as factual as possible. Many organizations are switching to EchoSign these days for the following: 1.) EchoSign is easier to use, especially for your signers. Consistent with a # of the reveiws here already, folks just find EchoSign more intuitive. On average, there are 20 - 30% fewer clicks needed for signers with EchoSign. EchoSign also probably does a bit more to make sure that *your* company branding comes through in your communications [as opposed to signNow or signNow's brand]. EchoSign takes a tablet-first approach for the signer in terms of UX. 2.) Quality of support. This is an area where signNow has done a major investment in last 6 months [which frankly was really needed] and now is a key reason that folks are switching. Accounts aren't randomly turned off. And free chat-based support is always available. 3.) The integration of EchoSign into CRM and Cloud Computing To Grow Your Business - Salesforce.com [ http://Salesforce.com ] is easier to setup, manage, and run. You don't need to know how to write code to get the integration up and running. User review scores on the salesforce AppExchange are dramatically higher: 4.9 (out of 5) for EchoSign vs 4.6 for signNow. 3.) 99.999% of what gets signed is a PDF. signNow invented PDF, and is doing a great deal of work to deeply integrate EchoSign across its digital document portfolio: the Reader and Acrobat have rich integration here to ensure that eSignatures work seamlessly with your digital document workflow. 4.) EchoSign is the only eSignature service that is backed by a publicly traded company. signNow is a strategic partner to the world's largest companies, with a focus on long-term partnerships. signNow has been rated as one of the world's greenest companies (Newsweek), one of the most *ethical* companies (EthiSphere), and one of the Top 100 places to work (Forbes). 5.) Security. PCI, HIPAA compliant, 256-bit encryption, and SOC Type II datacenters. And a roadmap for 2014 that includes native digital signature integration as well as advanced document protection via digital rights management. 6.) Beyond the above, signNow EchoSign delivers unique innovations that are key for a growing # of companies: advanced multi-language support, custom branding, dynamic content fields, leading integrations with CRM systems, advanced library and storage capabilities, and more. System uptime was a tough issue for EchoSign in 2012 and early 2013, but this is now basically on par [and in fact much better if you compare last 10 months of the respective trust sites]. EchoSign's billing was a source of challenge historically, but this too has been addressed. Companies using EchoSign include United Healthcare, Twitter, TimeWarner Cable, Google, Groupon, Foxtons and more, driving almost 3M contracts/month. In sum, competition is a good thing for consumers; and signNow EchoSign has improved much faster than some expected. So definitely time to take a look here.

What industries must use electronic signature software?
Any industry involving a large amount of paperwork make use electronic signatures. In other words, all industries make use of electronic signatures because all of them have piles of paperwork to handle. Some examples of such industries include financial, life science, healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.Industries such as the pharmaceutical industry, have a number of licenses and other paperwork that they have to handle and keep track of. It can be a tedious task to perform such cumbersome paper processes. Therefore, e-signatures can facilitate an organisation in keeping a track of all this paperwork, by signing electronically.Healthcare industries usually involve time-sensitive documents, which need to be urgently completed. But, it can take days in case of the traditional wet ink paper signatures for the documents to signNow the signer and back, if the parties are geographically scattered. But with electronic signatures, that is not the case. Geographical barriers do not play a role. Documents which earlier needed days to be completed, can now be signed and sent back within minutes, in the click of a button. Furthermore, it takes a long time to bring assets under management. The time taken by the signing process, if wet ink paper signatures are used, may even further delay the process. But by using electronic signatures, the whole process can speed up.Apart from these, there are many paper prone industries which require huge amount of paperwork and with the use of electronic signatures they can make their everyday processes smoother and more efficient.

What are the pricing plans for electronic signature applications like Echosign? What alternatives are most suitable for a small
Echosign starts out great, with free, or $15/month for a Pro account. But every time I consider upgrading, I back out because the pricing gets steeply higher per user. To just add a second user means going from paying $15/month for one user to paying $480/year in advance (non-refundable, $20/month per user) or $60/month ($30/user). It is crazy, I actually end up paying 4 times as much just to add a second user, even though there is just a marginal benefit.Echosign definitely must feel there is a network effect to having more users, and greedily tries to capture all of that benefit for themselves. Pricing per user actually increases as you move to larger plans. Per user rates go from $15/month, to $30/month, to $40/month, to $50/month.. -----Delving into this a bit more, it seems like signNow is much like Echosign, but has a better pricing plan for two or more users. It is $25/user for the first two users, and declines to $10/user for 5 users. For 6 users, however, it jumps to $42/user, eventually declining again to $10/user, but adding API access. The plans provide a 20% discount for paying a year in advance.Their technology does not seem to be in any way less advanced than the alternatives. I sent a document with the service, and it seemed to well. Some nice features included recognizing data fields in existing pdf documents, integration with Highrise, Dropbox, and some other services. I didn't notice anything missing compared to echosign.----signNow does not offer a month-to-month option. Users must pay $180/year ($15/month) for the standard service (even though it says $19.99/month on the website)..

What are the best electronic signature (e-signature) services?
Sometimes we really don’t understand what we mean under “best”, even this question doesn’t elaborate what the best service means? Which criteria the author believes the service fits the best? price?best design? Reliability?Let’s better talk about “suitable” for this moment and current needs. As the previous answers mentioned, do you need the service to be available on all major platforms or a signature that will stand up in court?Do you need a free simple solution, a feature-rich service that charges on the amount of signatures/documents signed or on monthly basis?Do you need to work with your documents on the go with low or no internet connection (while travelling, in the airport or plane)? And you can ask yourself with tons of such questions to create a matrix of features-service to choose the one you need. Or you can use 3rd party platforms like Alternativeto to initially select the provider you are interested in.When we conducted a closed beta testing for signNow recently, one of the goals was to understand the main criterias SMB owners from US use to choose a solution or switch to another one.We interviewed more than 230 businesses and what’s interesting, while the top factor goes to Security&data privacy, price or for example, digital signature availability is not in Top-3 of choices. Speed of an app/solution and multiplatform availability (works in web browser as well as on Mac, iPhone/iPad, Android and Windows devices) are what values higher. So, if there is a need to sign/send documents on Mac, iphone/ipad, android, windows and web browser and to work with documents offline, signNow is alternative to go with. We are still in beta, implementing some major requests from our beta users, but will be launching this September. And, signNow is free while in beta.

What is the best electronic signature (eSignature / eSign) software for small businesses?
I use signNow. Its has great features and potential to use API when i need to.You have few others that are good and established. signNow Echosign is great.signNow - is another option. They also have stripe integration for payment. All of them will track responses ..like you can see who viewed and who signed.Gather your requirements :a) How many documents do you want to get signed every month?b) Does the content vary? if not you can create one template.c) Do you need API or can you fill the variables like name and address for a template and send it ?d) Do you want someone to pay when they sign? or is there a separate payment process - Right now out of box its only signNow ( AFAIK) or You can do Zapier integration if you have resources to help you with. Most of them start at low price and cost adds up when you want more than one template or you exceed maximum documents signed.Until you do a complete API integration, you can easily replace one with another. So you can start off with FREE plan and try it out and upgrade to basic plan and see if it meets your need and try the other vendor. If you know your numbers upfront, you can talk to the sales team.

Should physicians and other professionals lose their license for not using computer technology that communicates with government
A2A. A paper record does not interfere with quality standards in any way. The quality of care does not depend on the use of computers for clinical care or for record keeping. Prior to my entering medicine the requirement was to provide quality care. Then the standard became provide quality care and document it. Then the standard became provide quality care and document it and add reporting codes to submit to Medicare. This got tweaked to reporting codes to 3 different parts of Medicare reporting the same good work, but using different codes. With involvement in an ACO (Accountable Care Organization), as urged by Medicate, this led to the need to report on other measures by other electronic pathways to the ACO.Since beginning my own practice in 1992, my office records have been on a computer. As the technology advanced I could view them from home after hours, or even from out of state, if I was visiting family. This was not adequate for Medicare. I needed a certified EHR. Most physicians have found EHRs much more trouble than benefit. They interfere with patient care, and according to the President of the Medical Society of th State of New York, they have led to physicians spending 2 hours at a computer for every one hour of direct patient care. My word processor based electronic records from 1992 were in many ways much better than those on my certified EHR.CMS Administrator Seema “Verma announced a new CMS initiative, Patients Over Paperwork,(www.modernhealthcare.com) that the agency is beginning using a three-pronged approach. The plan is to increase outsignNow to physicians, other medical professionals and hospitals to better understand the scope of the administrative burden problem and obtain examples of how this needless complexity is affecting patient care. A goal has been set to decrease the time we spend doing administrative tasks. CMS also aims to harmonize and streamline the forms needed for processes such as prior authorizations.” Let Us Focus on Patients, Not Paperwork I hope for America that this really happens.I stopped clinical practice due to disability from ALS, but I had earlier reduced my practice and shut my office due to these burdens. The office was no longer fun for me or for my staff. See the cartoon - it is real.Edit 10/5/2017 correction: two hours at computer per hour direct care now correctly attributed to President of MSSNY rather than President Amer Acad Family Physicians.
