Which Salesforce add-ons are the most popular with Salesforce's customers, and what functions do they serve?
We help a lot of people with getting their essential fields into a faster UI (more about that later, but there I am biased of course), and it this process we see a lot of their tools and what they really use. (We have interviewed sales ops about this on our blog if you want more qualitative data: Dan Ross, Sales Operations Manager at Optimizely - Brisk.io). There are "customer facing tools" (lead management, email marketing, tools for the reps/customer success/support), there are tools for the Sales Ops (duplicate checkers, validation rule builders, etc), tools for management (reporting, business intelligence), and tools for IT (dev frameworks, single sign on solutions and other security management). Here are some categories of tools for "customer facing roles": 1. Marketing Automation: Eloqua / Marketo / Pardot / Exact Target: used to on the fly create landing pages, "follow users" before they signed up so when they have signed up you can get their history, and drip marketing. I would definately have a good look at this post: Sales and Marketing Automation: What are some inexpensive alternatives to HubSpot, Marketo, and Pardot? and definately look at the more modern Autopilot: Marketing Automation you can actually use. 2. Marketing tools (Auto content generation / Lead scoring & drip marketing): Hubspot / Slice / Intercom.io / Mixpanel: if you don't want category #1 you will need something in this category. A lot of these are more modern than the previous category, but if you have gotten used to the mega flexibility of Salesforce then some of these might be limiting or seen as a one trick pony. Personally I prefer these as they are best at one thing. 3. Sales automation / task replacement tools: Yesware / Toutapp / Contactmonkey (template management for email) + Digitial Signing (EchoSign / signNow). These replace a lot of manual work and make sure that your sales people more quickly get into your sales process and less balls are dropped. 4. Vertical Tools: to help a certain team do their job: - Totango / Gainsight: helps customer success see how the product is being used- Zendesk: helps support do their job and sales understand how the accounts are being served / issues before they talk to them. Generally I would say there are tools for everything in Salesforce, which really can create the best platform in the world, but also a very bloated and complex user interface. That is why we built Brisk.io to give you a faster and more focused user interface. You can design the UI for each role, they can improve it individually, but most of all the UI changes based on rules (if a customer is forgotten you are being reminded, if lead source isn't filled out Brisk ask you for that, if you have a really hot lead you are notified, if an account has too many handled support tickets you see that before it becomes an issue). But most of all you start to love the CRM and see it as a tool: (source: http://www.brisk.io)

What are the top B2B software tools in the Sales Stack for field sales and inside sales teams in 2016?
Salespeople are always on the lookout for tools that can make their lives easier. And, our sales folks are always willing to help just about anyone with what they've learnt. So, we asked them for the best chrome extensions that they use daily, ones that enable them crush their targets.Chrome extensions are a smart way of getting things done faster and fit in to your daily work life seamlessly. If your sales folks use Google Chrome, then they're going to love this list that we have compiled below:1. LINKEDIN SALES NAVIGATORCATEGORY: LEAD GENERATIONPRICING: $65/$100/USER/MONTHWe begin with the ones that is most obvious that you might already be familiar with – LinkedIn Sales Navigator – but, whether you’ve tried it or not, you can still get the Sales Navigator browser extension, as it works both for those who have a regular, free LinkedIn account, and those who have the LinkedIn Sales Navigator tool. And depending on your plan, you’ll get different benefits and features:REGULAR LINKEDIN ACCOUNT:Look up for a profile of any of your Gmail contacts by hovering over their email address - you’ll get to see important information from their LinkedIn profile directly without having to leave Gmail, including your shared connections and their work experience.SALES NAVIGATOR ACCOUNTIf you have full access to LinkedIn Sales Navigator, you can use the extension to quickly save your contacts as leads. You also have access to 'TeamLink' which helps to find any common connections with prospects so you can get an introduction.2. HUNTER.IOCATEGORY: EMAIL SCRAPINGPRICING: FREE, $39, $79, $159 /USER/MONTHThe Hunter Chrome Extension helps you find the most crucial contact information that you care about – company email addresses. The tool can be used on any website you want - if the icon is colored orange, that means it’s found some emails for that particular company, so you can click on it to check the results.Sometimes, you also get a name with the email to help you understand whose it is, but not all the time. Additionally, you might encounter quite a few out-of-date emails, but Hunter combats this by giving all emails a quality score to let you know how likely it is that email is still in use.You can also find possible email addresses from lead names using their native algorithm and domain names and verify validity of email addresses. Find email addresses in seconds • Hunter (Email Hunter) has the highest accuracy rates of all the email scraping tools our sales folks have used so far.3. EMAIL EXTRACTORCATEGORY: EMAIL SCRAPINGPRICING: FREE, $9.99 ONWARDSEmail Extractor is a tool similar to Find email addresses in seconds • Hunter (Email Hunter) that assists in finding the right domain and email addresses for prospects. It can provide you with domain names and email addresses of members of the organizations with those domains that are scraped from various websites.Alternately, you can also enter the name of a lead and the domain name and Email Extractor will give you an email address with decent accuracy rates. You can also verify any email address on the platform and it will let you know if it is a valid email ID or not. We have encountered scenarios where the domain is a "catch-all" domain and it cannot be 100% verified if the email exists or not.Exporting of the contact details of bulk prospects and downloading as a .CSV file is a notable feature of Email Extractor.4. SKRAPPCATEGORY: EMAIL SCRAPINGPRICING: FREE, $49, $99, $199, $299 /USER/MONTHSkrapp as a Chrome Extension works seamlessly with LinkedIn and can help you pull professional email addresses of your prospects straight out of their LinkedIn profiles. It runs on a predictive algorithm and hence reliability of the email addresses is not 100% but the reason why our salespeople have Skrapp in their Sales stack is the convenience of it - the "Find Email" button right under the "Message" button makes it so easy to quickly scrape the email address of the prospect and then moven to the next - a deadly combination with LinkedIn Sales Navigator! The lists in Skrapp are quite useful as well and are directly accessible within the Chrome extension itself. You can add the scraped email addresses to any of the lists that you may have created. However, it doesn't always find the email that you need although when it does, it mentions the probability of it being accurate.5. signNow versus Echosign. Which do you feel is a better electronic signature service and why?
A lot of the postings here are quite dated -- and this is a really important question -- so I'll weigh in with a few considerations/thoughts. I want to make it clear that I work for signNow, and run the signNow EchoSign team. While this potentially invites skepticism, I've attempted to be as factual as possible. Many organizations are switching to EchoSign these days for the following: 1.) EchoSign is easier to use, especially for your signers. Consistent with a # of the reveiws here already, folks just find EchoSign more intuitive. On average, there are 20 - 30% fewer clicks needed for signers with EchoSign. EchoSign also probably does a bit more to make sure that *your* company branding comes through in your communications [as opposed to signNow or signNow's brand]. EchoSign takes a tablet-first approach for the signer in terms of UX. 2.) Quality of support. This is an area where signNow has done a major investment in last 6 months [which frankly was really needed] and now is a key reason that folks are switching. Accounts aren't randomly turned off. And free chat-based support is always available. 3.) The integration of EchoSign into CRM and Cloud Computing To Grow Your Business - Salesforce.com [ http://Salesforce.com ] is easier to setup, manage, and run. You don't need to know how to write code to get the integration up and running. User review scores on the salesforce AppExchange are dramatically higher: 4.9 (out of 5) for EchoSign vs 4.6 for signNow. 3.) 99.999% of what gets signed is a PDF. signNow invented PDF, and is doing a great deal of work to deeply integrate EchoSign across its digital document portfolio: the Reader and Acrobat have rich integration here to ensure that eSignatures work seamlessly with your digital document workflow. 4.) EchoSign is the only eSignature service that is backed by a publicly traded company. signNow is a strategic partner to the world's largest companies, with a focus on long-term partnerships. signNow has been rated as one of the world's greenest companies (Newsweek), one of the most *ethical* companies (EthiSphere), and one of the Top 100 places to work (Forbes). 5.) Security. PCI, HIPAA compliant, 256-bit encryption, and SOC Type II datacenters. And a roadmap for 2014 that includes native digital signature integration as well as advanced document protection via digital rights management. 6.) Beyond the above, signNow EchoSign delivers unique innovations that are key for a growing # of companies: advanced multi-language support, custom branding, dynamic content fields, leading integrations with CRM systems, advanced library and storage capabilities, and more. System uptime was a tough issue for EchoSign in 2012 and early 2013, but this is now basically on par [and in fact much better if you compare last 10 months of the respective trust sites]. EchoSign's billing was a source of challenge historically, but this too has been addressed. Companies using EchoSign include United Healthcare, Twitter, TimeWarner Cable, Google, Groupon, Foxtons and more, driving almost 3M contracts/month. In sum, competition is a good thing for consumers; and signNow EchoSign has improved much faster than some expected. So definitely time to take a look here.

What are the most popular sales and marketing tools used by hot SaaS companies?
Well, I cannot speak for other SaaS companies, but we are in the space and we consider ourselves to be fairly hot so I’ll just tell you about some stuff we use.SalesflareYes, we use our own product. Salesflare is a sales CRM aimed at automating most of the sales flow. It automatically fills out our address book with data it pulls from sources like social media, company databases and email signatures. It keeps track of interactions of leads towards us (phone, email, calendar), including email and website tracking. All of that is automated in a nice timeline so we have all the information we need at our fingertips at all times. From the data it collects it will tell and remind you what to do about specific leads. It’s not a robot yet, but it does do most of the working and thinking for us.There’s a desktop and a mobile app, but I mostly use it straight from my Gmail, where it gives me everything I need on a customer from an integrated sidebar. You can grab a free trial from the website http://salesflare.comLinkedIn Sales NavigatorAt $79,99 a month (a little less when you take if for a year) it’s not exactly the cheapest tool from this list, however it’s a great source of lead generation for us. Sales Navigator features a wide arrange of useful filters that allow you to effectively search for potential clients. It offers analytics, insights and recommendations so you can stay updated and focus on the right people. We automate this lead generation process with Dux-Soup, which is a Chrome-plugin that acts as robot you can issue to visit LinkedIn profiles and collect its data. Just set your filters to target your ideal customers and tell Dux-Soup to go visit the whole list. Not only will you have all kinds of useful data on them, it will also you on their profiles that you visited them, which counts for visibility already. You can export this data in .CSV lists and then go nuts on these, for which we also use some tools (see below).Hunter.ioPreviously EmailHunter, this is a great tool to help you find email addresses. We give first and last names plus their company domains of leads we scraped from LinkedIn with Dux-Soup to Hunter and it gives us their email addresses back. It won’t find everything, return rate is about 70% but that’s a long way already.Rapportive One of my other favourite Chrome plugins. Rapportive acts as a sidebar in your Gmail and shows you LinkedIn profiles associated with the email address you have an email open from or are typing one to. It’s a great way to find out email addresses Hunter wasn’t able to give you. Just start typing some reasonable guesses in a draft email and whenever a LinekdIn profile pops up in Rapportive, you’ll know it’s the right one.I don’t currently use Rapportive anymore as Salesflare does the same, but if you don’t need a full-fledged CRM, this is solid, free alternative.Kimono LabsYou can use Dux-Soup for LinkedIn, but the web has more useful data to offer beyond LinkedIn. Kimono is the best data scraper out there, in our experience. Or was. Since it was bought by Palantir last year, the service has been discontinued. It used to work via a Chrome plugin connected to their server, but that server is not among us anymore and the plugin has been removed from the Play Store. There’s a workaround though. You can install the Kimono desktop app, which will act as a server. The Chrome plugin you can download here. On the house ;).If you’re looking for an alternative, you can check out Import.io, which is not as good though.MailChimpWe use MailChimp for email campaigns. Obvious choice, it allows for effective email campaigns that won’t end up in your recipient’s spam box. Other than that: powerful analytics, email tracking, great resources on email templates and easy to integrate with our other tools.MixMaxMixMax is the tool to turbocharge your Gmail. We use it alongside MailChimp because it sends emails from your Gmail and not from the MailChimp server. This makes it better for personal emails, as they won’t end up in the ‘Promotions’ tab of your recipient’s Gmail account. It also gives you more power in setting up email sequences; it allows you for example to break off a sequence when a recipient has responded to your first email. Other than that, it’s filled with cool features to spice up emails: slash commands, email templates, email and click tracking, embedded surveys/polls and an awesome meeting scheduler.AhrefsYou can use Ahrefs for organic traffic research. It will show you the backlinks (including URL and domain rating, as well as data of the link and other stuff) of every website out there, which makes it great to dig into the SEO strategy of your competitors. It also features a keyword explorer, which can be a great in helping you to determine the keywords you should be targeting. When you’ve identified your keywords, Ahrefs’ rank tracking tool can give you day-to-day updates on your ranking for your keywords.Another great tool for SEO is definitely Moz.com. It also features a keyword explorer, keyword rank tracker, web explorer to find link building opportunities and several tools to improve the SEO of your website.Google AnalyticsNo-brainer. Everyone uses it.Hemingway App Hemingway App will analyse a piece of text and grade it on readability. It does so by taking into account stuff like complex sentences, use of adverbs, use of passive voice and common spelling errors. Very useful to make sure your text is easy on the eye and suited for publication.ZapierLast but for sure not least. Pretty much the holy grail of sales, marketing and project management tools because it can make them all work together. You can pretty much pick out your favourite tool for every job and then tell Zapier to streamline them into an effective suite that is perfect for your business. Workflow automation done right.

What are the pricing plans for electronic signature applications like Echosign? What alternatives are most suitable for a small
Echosign starts out great, with free, or $15/month for a Pro account. But every time I consider upgrading, I back out because the pricing gets steeply higher per user. To just add a second user means going from paying $15/month for one user to paying $480/year in advance (non-refundable, $20/month per user) or $60/month ($30/user). It is crazy, I actually end up paying 4 times as much just to add a second user, even though there is just a marginal benefit.Echosign definitely must feel there is a network effect to having more users, and greedily tries to capture all of that benefit for themselves. Pricing per user actually increases as you move to larger plans. Per user rates go from $15/month, to $30/month, to $40/month, to $50/month.. -----Delving into this a bit more, it seems like signNow is much like Echosign, but has a better pricing plan for two or more users. It is $25/user for the first two users, and declines to $10/user for 5 users. For 6 users, however, it jumps to $42/user, eventually declining again to $10/user, but adding API access. The plans provide a 20% discount for paying a year in advance.Their technology does not seem to be in any way less advanced than the alternatives. I sent a document with the service, and it seemed to well. Some nice features included recognizing data fields in existing pdf documents, integration with Highrise, Dropbox, and some other services. I didn't notice anything missing compared to echosign.----signNow does not offer a month-to-month option. Users must pay $180/year ($15/month) for the standard service (even though it says $19.99/month on the website)..

Startups: When will signNow go public?
From 2016 IPO Prospects: signNow Looks Ready to Sign Up on the 1mby1m.com blog: According to the global Digital Transaction Management (DTM) report by Aragon Research, 70% of large companies globally are working toward implementing DTM as a business imperative by the end of 2016. The DTM market is estimated to grow to $30 billion by 2020.signNow’s FinancialsTom Gosner, the “father of electronic signatures”, set up signNow in 2003 as a Digital Transaction Management platform that could help companies automate processes that needed physical signatures. The process of getting a physical signature slows down several business processes. By digitizing the requirement, signNow has helped several industries, in particular the real estate industry, speed up paperwork.signNow’s cloud-based platform has seen signNow adoption. Today, their services are used by more than 50 million users across 188 countries in 43 languages. They have been deployed in over 100,000 companies and see an enrollment of over 50,000 new unique users every day. Their cloud signature process shows completion of over 51% documents within an hour of initiation.signNow earns revenues through a subscription-based model with fee ranging from $10 per month for individuals to $125 per user per month for businesses. Being privately held, signNow does not disclose its financials or customer metrics to ascertain revenue potential. It has been venture funded so far with $508.1 million in funding from Dell Ventures, Intel Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, Founders Circle Capital, Sands Capital Ventures, Wellington Management, Wasatch Advisors, Iconiq Capital, Recruit Strategic Partners, BBVA Ventures, Salesforce, Telstra, Visa, MKI, EquityZen, SharesPost Investment Management, Cross Creek Advisors, Sigma West, Comcast Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Accel Partners, Sapphire Ventures, Google Ventures, Frazier Technology Ventures, and Scale Venture Partners. Its last round of funding was held in May 2015 when it raised $233 million at an impressive $3 billion valuation. That is a signNow increase from the $1.6 billion valuation the company had recorded in 2014.signNow’s GrowthsignNow is using the new funding toward international expansion. During the last quarter, signNow announced plans to enter the Japanese market. Overall, the company is focused on three key goals: grow revenues, ramp towards profits, and build its global identity standard. signNow wants to be more than just a digital signature platform. It wants to be the “Switzerland to digital management” by handling encryption, permissions, and compliance management of documents in an organization.According to Aragon Research, by the end of 2017, 65% of the enterprises will replace paper-based processes with digital processes. The research firm credits signNow with being a leading force in the industry.signNow has successfully adapted to the mobile world by delivering an intuitive mobile app that allows users to sign and return documents for free. signNow has had a first mover advantage in the space and has managed to amass a gigantic user base. But it is facing stiff competition from bigger players. In 2011, signNow entered the space with the acquisition of echoSign to release its eSign offering. Like signNow, signNow too offers its products at a monthly subscription fee ranging from $10 for individuals to $45 per seat per month for businesses.Analysts and signNow are hopeful of the company going public soon, in early to mid 2016.

What is the "best" electronic / digital signature solution?
What is Digital Signature? And Benefits of Digital Signature Certificates [ http://www.idltechnologies.com/ ] A digital signature is basically a way to ensure that an electronic document (e-mail, spreadsheet, text file, etc.) is authentic. Authentic means that you know who created the document and you know that it has not been altered in any way since that person created it. Digital signatures rely on certain types of encryption to ensure authentication. Encryption is the process of taking all the data that one computer is sending to another and encoding it into a form that only the other computer will be able to decode. Authentication is the process of verifying that information is coming from a trusted source. These two processes work hand in hand for digital signatures. How do I get a Digital Signature? Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is a secure digital key that certifies the identity of the holder, issued by a signNowing Authority (CA). There are many companies provide Digital Signature , i.e. SIFY eMudhra (n)code These companies gives LRA to several companies that are basically known as LRA. You may directly apply online and purchase from your local authority. 1. signNow [ https://sign.keepsolid.com/ ] - offers a 14 day free trial and 3 types of pricing plans starting from $9.99 when paid monthly. Digital Signature for E-tendering There are three types of digital signature certificates depending on the validation of identity and type of use. They are: Class I DSC – Individuals get it for validating the email identification of the users and in situations where risk is minimal and here the signature is stored in software. Class II DSC – Business organizations or individuals use this digital signature certificate to validate the information given by the subscriber in the application against the information available in a trusted consumer database and in other such situations where security risk is moderate. In this case a hardware cryptographic device is used for storing the signature. Class III DSC – This digital certificate is directly issued by the signNowing authority and it is required that the person applying for DSC must be present at the signNowing authority’s premises and prove his/her identity in front of the authority and the security risk involved in this case is very high. In this case also a hardware cryptographic device is used for storing the signature. The Necessity of Digital Signature Certificates For e-filing of the income tax returns by any individual, the Government of India has made it mandatory to affix digital signatures to the income tax returns documents. For affixing the digital signature one must have digital signature certificates issued by licensed certification authority. In addition, Ministry of Corporate Affairs has set the mandatory guidelines for the companies directing them to file all reports, applications and forms using a digital signature only and this again requires a digital signature certificate. For GST also a company must verify its GST application by affixing a digital signature using digital signature certificate in order to get registered for GST. These days many Government procedures, filling different applications, amendments and forms require digital signatures made by using digital signature certificates. Benefits of Digital Signature Certificates Saves Money & Time: As there is no need of physical presence you can digitally sign your PDF files and other documents using DSC anywhere & anytime. You need not sign your paper documents and then scan them to send them across through internet if you follow the above given option. You can save the money which would otherwise be spent on printing and scanning the document. You can also go green by saving paper. Secured Data: The digitally signed documents are tamper proof as the digital signatures are secured with a private key and public key and they cannot be edited after digitally signing the document. Authentic: Digitally signed documents are authentic and the receiver can be completely sure about the sender’s identity and integrity. The receiver can easily execute the information in the document without worrying about the document being forged. Certificate (DSC) is essential for companies and organizations that take part or intend to take part in eTendering processes on various Government sites. If a organisation going to apply for any Government eTender needs to have a Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate registered in the name of a representative who is authorized to submit online offers for e-Tendering applications. The 2 most important, IMHO, are do you need 1. A “standing order” doc that can be easily signed anytime by anyone, such as an injury waiver at a karate school / trampoline park / etc- that sort of thing. The signor is not pre-defined. For that, we (SwiftCloud [ https://swiftcloud.ai/ ]) may well be best, but there are dozens to compare, and important to consider is volume, HIPAA medical compliance, integration to marketing, etc. 2. Specific doc / signor - such as a real estate sales contract. The parties are pre-defined, and automation can be added to flow from group 1 (say, “the seller(s)”) to group 2 (seller’s agent, for example) to group 3 (the buyer(s) consecutively or concurrently. The #1 reason to use e-signature is to save time + integration on the data i.e. so marketing is 100% automated for example, and reducing time-to-close which results in higher sales pull-through rates. Don’t get me wrong, saving money on paper, printer, ink, printer jams, etc. is important - but that’s a money saver, not a money maker. Marketing and sales will actually create new revenue for you, so to not use electronic signature [ https://swiftcloud.ai/products/electronic-signature ] is for most businesses, downright neglectful. Granted, I’m a bit biased, but happy to do a formal study to prove it with real numbers, should anyone be so inclined. And you are good to go!!

What will a business plan look like 10 years in the future?
The first thing to understand is that business plans are NOT written "to satisfy bankers, angels and VCs". Instead you write one for YOURSELF to use as your own touchstone, guidebook, and focus concentrator as you envision, build, pivot and expand your business. As such, a business plan is NOT a fundraising document, but IS a crucial element of a successful business. (Note, by the way, that a business plan does not need to be 35 pages of dense text: take a look at Aaron Patzer's funding slides for Mint.com (available at http://www.slideshare.net/hnshah...) which is one of the most comprehensive, intelligent plans I've seen...even though they are in PowerPoint form.)However, you DO need a variety of *other* communications materials to help investors make a case (to themselves and their partners) that your venture is worthy of their investment. I've written before about the various things a smart entrepreneur will have to aid in investor communications (see my answer to What materials or software should I use to pitch a VC?) but let's now go beyond my last point there (a special, investor-focused online web site) to answer this question. The Investor Attraction plan of the future (calling it what it is) will clearly be online, and it will clearly be a living site that is always current. It will also be carefully access-controlled, because while transparency is great, there will always be confidential things you don't want to share with the whole world. Because this is the world of Web 3.0, the plan will be completely integrated with all data that might possibly reflect on the company's investability. As the question suggests, it will have links to all the sources you listed, and a lot more (from your social graph profile to your competitors' Compete metrics to a live sentiment analysis of what your users are saying about you online.) It will combine information YOU provide (your strategy, target customers, etc.), information THIRD PARTIES provide (your public analytics, Klout score, sentiment, etc.) and information the INVESTOR brings to the table (people they know who know you, industry reports and analyses, comparable valuations from their internal databases, etc.)The plan will be truly interactive, allowing you AND your potential investor to play out what-if scenarios with live data, analyzing your pipeline, conversion rates and interactions with strategic partners, combining your SalesForce CRM system, your direct response channels and your marketing analytics. In this connected world of the future, while you are working on your Investor Attraction Plan, the smart investor is working on her Entrepreneur Attraction Plan, where similar tools will help her signNow out to YOU and show why she would be the best partner to fund your venture. There, you would be able to check HER references, see her other portfolio companies, leverage her network in filling open positions on your team, and ensure that you can always get her [electronic] signature on the investment and governance documents you invariably need to have signed.Once your investor 'joins the family' by funding your vision, the Investor Attraction plan will expand into a full-featured Investor Relations plan, integrating your investor and board reporting functions, your cap table and option ledger, and coordinating your investors' collaboration in raising your next financing round and/or exit transaction.Best of all, the two worlds will be connected in real time, so that the entrepreneur and the investor can function as a team to support the company, and as individuals outside of that context. In an increasingly accelerating and fluid world, we will find that one entrepreneur's investor is another investor's entrepreneur, and we will each likely play multiple roles with multiple companies. Whether it's called a business plan, an entrepreneur attraction plan or an investor relations web site, the future of smart entrepreneurial funding, on both sides of the table, will rest on a foundation of real-time, transparent, web-facilitated, interactive communications.

Frequently asked questions
How do i add an electronic signature to a word document?
When a client enters information (such as a password) into the online form on , the information is encrypted so the client cannot see it. An authorized representative for the client, called a "Doe Representative," must enter the information into the "Signature" field to complete the signature.
How do they know an electronic signature is actually you?
And, more importantly, does it have a secret meaning, and are you actually the owner and not just someone pretending to be you?
The answer seems to be yes. In fact, it's the best answer any of the researchers could come up with: They believe that it's the secret to a digital signature, and their findings have been published in the academic literature.
The paper is entitled "Secret Authenticity of Digital Signatures: the case of the 'IOU'" and is a collaboration between the researchers and David Chaum, the author of the famous paper on digital signatures that was used to prove the security of electronic cash transactions over the Internet in 1999.
It was a pretty big deal back in 1999, because it proved that it's possible to make an electronic currency that is not vulnerable to "double spending" -- where the money itself can be duplicated and used to defraud the network.
And since then, digital signatures have been at the center of many new innovations in electronic banking, and now the technology has moved out-of-the-box into other areas, like online payment systems, the blockchain, and smart contracts.
And Chaum, who is also the author of the classic book "Digital Money: Theory and Practice," has been working to prove that electronic signatures are more than just something that can be used for digital signatures.
He did that with a proof-of-concept experiment at the University of Illinois a decade or so ago. He wanted to see whether it could be possible to take an el...
