third stimulus check updates after senate passed the 1.9 trillion dollar stimulus package now it heads up to house for final approval majority leader nancy pelosi tweeted today as a day of great progress as the senate democrats passed american rescue plan to save lives and livelihoods we now urge republicans to join us in recognition of the imminent need for decisive action and to fulfill the promise that help is on the way the treasury secretary janet yellen said that the covet-19 relief bill the senate passed will benefit the economy and we will be able to get back in one year to pre-pandemic employment levels well this is a tremendously important package that will bring um millions hundreds of millions of americans the relief they need first of all it will provide the money we need to vaccinate our population to get the pandemic under control it will provide the resources that schools need to operate safely americans individuals earning less than 75 000 and um couples earning less than a hundred and fifty thousand dollars will receive checks for fourteen hundred dollars to help them defray all of the expenses that they've had due to the pandemic there'll be a three thousand dollar child credit and thirty six hundred dollars for children under the age of six um extra relief for families that need child care or or out of work and rental assistance for those who face eviction have back rent do food food stamps for those many families who have shortages of food and unemployment insurance will be extended into september so this is a package i should also mention state and local governments we have seen a decline in employment of 1.4 million state and local government revenues 1.4 million employees because state and local governments are suffering from declines in revenues and extra expenses due to the pandemic and they'll get the money that they need to make sure that first responders policeman firemen can stay on the job so this is a bill that will really provide americans the relief they need to get to the other side of this pandemic and we expect the resources here to really fuel a very strong economic recovery i'm anticipating if all goes well that our economy will be back to full employment where we were before the pandemic next year and the congressional budget office estimated that without this it could probably take until 2024. white house press secretary jen pasaki said today that the current focus for president biden is to sign the american rescue plan as quickly as possible at the top obviously our focus continues to be on the american rescue plan getting it across the finish line the president is taking nothing for granted i will note that the plan that the senate passed this weekend puts us one huge step closer to passing one of the most consequential and most progressive pieces of legislation in american history as senator sanders described it the rescue plan is quote the most significant piece of legislation to benefit working families in the modern history of this country the bill will also help us reopen schools safely keep teachers cops firefighters and other essential workers on the job and it will give us the tools and resources we need to crush this virus some attention of course has been paid on the process we understand that but we can't lose sight of what the bill actually means for the american people fourteen hundred dollar checks to uh for 180 158.5 million americans a typical family of four making a hundred thousand dollars will get fifty six hundred dollars in direct checks lifting 11 million people out of poverty and cutting child poverty in half this year including through a historic expansion of the child tax credit that will benefit 66 million kids across the country extending unemployment insurance for around 11 million americans as you all know that would we would have had a point where people would be losing it later this week if we were not headed toward the passage of this bill tens of billions of dollars in rental and homeowners assistance that will benefit lower income disproportionately black and brown communities renters and homeowners and also the most significant investment in american child care since world war ii expanding the earned income tax credit uh to 17 million low-income workers and significantly reducing this is a piece of it that hasn't received a lot of attention health insurance premiums for millions of americans so a family of four making 90 000 could see their monthly premiums go down by 200 a month and that's in addition to direct checks they'll be receiving the child tax credit they'll be receiving and other components we mentioned this on friday the plan for the president to deliver remarks on thursday i just wanted to give a little bit put a little more meat on the bones the president will deliver his first primetime address to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the covid19 down on thursday he will discuss the many sacrifices of the the american people have made over the last year and the grave loss communities and families across the country have suffered president will look forward highlighting the role of americans and the ame that americans will play in beating the virus and moving the country toward getting back to normal um with that um kick us off thanks sorry to wear a
