How does the dropbox desktop app know who signed in before install?
That can be achieved by generating unique executable file for every authenticated user on server side upon request. You should compare checksums of two files - installer downloaded after authenticating and the one you get after. If checksums differ, that's the answer. If the file itself is small, you might be looking at 'online installer', program that downloads full installer in background when launched. Here's what I got (SHA-1 hash):(anon.) What are the biggest tracker networks and what can I do about them? When you visit a website, you are of course observable by the site itself, but you are also observable by third-party trackers that the site embeds in its code. You might be surprised to learn that the vast majority of websites include many of these third-party trackers. Websites includ...

How can I install a portable version of Dropbox on a USB flash drive on Mac? DropboxPortableAHK seems to work great but its Wind
There is no option that is safe for Mac yet, as I can see.If you want to put your Dropbox folder on an external drive, proceed with caution:The Dropbox folder must be available when your computer boots and before the Dropbox desktop application starts. Some USB drives, for example, take some time to mount before your computer recognizes them. The Dropbox desktop application could start before such a drive is ready and get confused. You'll receive an error and Dropbox will give you the opportunity to relink your Dropbox account or exit if it is unable to find your Dropbox folder. If the external drive is disconnected from the computer while Dropbox is running, there's a small chance that the application will start deleting files before realizing that the entire drive has been removed. Again: When it comes to using an external drive for your Dropbox folder, tread carefully.

Does Dropbox pay Samsung to have its app pre-installed?
I have no particular source for expecially dropbox and obviously it depends on the contract samsung and dropbox have (which I can't perceive), but usually dropbox should be the one who's paying that his app is preinstalled on samsung phones, as you often can't deinstall preinstalled apps (at least I can't on my phone) without root and this is a pretty good advertisment for dropbox. Users that already have the app installed are more willed to use it.

Is there a way for friends to upload files on my Dropbox folder without installing dropbox?
All you do is type in a desired user name, then click Link with your Dropbox. You'll have to give Dbinbox permission, after which you'll find a newly added Dbinbox folder inside your Apps folder. You then give your friends your custom Dbinbox link. When someone uses it, he or she can drag and drop files right to the browser window or use a file selector. There's even an option to send a message (which gets delivered as a text file). For a little added security, Dbinbox lets you create an access code you can require users to enter before sending files your way. There's no charge to use it, though the developer does accept Bitcoin donations.

How can I force Dropbox Installer to set up the My Dropbox folder on a partitioned drive?
Never mind. Fixed it. Simply allow the Dropbox app to install on C drive (in Windows). Then click the Dropbox icon in the system tray, click the gears/settings, then Preferences, then Account and chose a different drive to move the folder to. DO NOT TRY TO CUT-PASTE THE FOLDER FROM C DRIVE! This will cause big problems (as I discovered).

Is it a good idea to install Dropbox on server?
We have a Windows 2003 server in one of our offices and I have a Dropbox Pro 100 account installed on that and I have the Dropbox root inside the main file share so the 50-60 people in the office can save files to the Dropbox system and then access them when working from home without impacting our bandwidth use at the office and without needing to open the firewall to SMB or (s)FTP access. The only real drawback is that the Dropbox daemon seems to run as a user so you need that user logged in all the time so I use a tool that autologs in and then locks the screen. The "Public" folder comes in EXTREMELY handy for us because we often need to transfer data that is a bit too large for email so we can save it there, generate the "Public Link" and just mail that link to whoever needs the data.

What's the easiest way for someone to send me 100 pictures?
Dropbox is free, does not require a sign-in and is dead simple. (http://www.dropbox.com/)Your friend would install dropbox, click on the link in the e-mail you send (you set up the file share folder for them), and then they just drag the files into a folder on their own computer. Dropbox will then sync those files with the online folder. Later, your dropbox notices these files and syncs the folder on your PC that you set up so the files are automatically downloaded to your PC.But I do agree with the ascebic comments of Albert Ferrer. If a user cannot use FTP (which is built into all internet browsers now) and does not want to make an account anywhere, that pretty much blocks file transfer.I suppose they could send you 121 e-mails, one photo each. And depending on the size of the photos, they could probably send more like 5-10 photos per e-mail. Even if they knew how to compress files, jpgs don't compress very much. But I will add that selecting the folder with the files, right-clicking, and sending to an archive is also built into all OSs nowadays. Not knowing how to Zip a folder is not a very good excuse anymore when it is a right-click option on their computer. No harder than copy and paste, really.
