hi friends this is extreme Python and my name is common in this video we'll see how to extract meaningful information from some raw data so the worst of all we'll do some exercise on string manipulation functions we'll see how to extract data from a spring and then we will read data from a text file and then read it line by line and then extract the information that we need so suppose I have a string I store it like this spring and I put my name among data right I let's say I need first five characters of the spring that that is very easy to extract in Python we need not use any left right or mid function for this rather we can simply say like this just print spring and starting from zero position and up to five characters just print those characters so it prints my name here similarly if I want to print the letter up the complete spring starting from zero I can either do it like this otherwise I can if I want to start from let's say second position and then up to last character I can do like this so similarly if I want let's say the last character of my name so I can use minus one so it gives me minus one the character which is at minus one position and minus 1 is nothing but the last character in that spring ok so similarly if I put a minus if I need last five characters so I will put minus five up to last so it will give me last five characters that's print so these would be six now the actual problem statement is to read data from a text file and then read the content line by line and then string manipulation and data extraction so let's say we have this sort of data so this data is having name of few companies and then their address and the whole numbers location and here up when they've established and all these columns are separated by a delimiter which is hash it may be any any other delimiter become or anything else so so it's very easy I kept this text file here in one folder and the script also I am keeping in same folder so just first of all we need to open this file so for open we have open function name of the file and put dot txt okay and then give it a leas as file right so now let's say I want to I to write or navigate through each and every record of this text ok the text which is there in the file so for records and this text I am going to I to rate ok so if I print these it will print everything which is there in the take that text file but I do not want to print everything rather I need some limited information on some meaningful information similarly if I put let's say I need first five characters of every record so this will do the same thing right like we were extracting for one string now it is we kept this that logic in a loop that's why it is doing it for all the records and we we get some relevant information in terms of what we want to extract it but the thing is it is rarely a case where you know how many number of characters you want to extract from left right or mid so because in in our context also we have name of companies now every company would be of same number of characters so for that we will use some other approach so like as I said that we have this content which is delimited by hash so what we can do one way could be just to find location of that hash and then put that index over here starting from 0 up to that number second way could be we can use split function just print that strength using that a limiter and put value which is there enforce index so so if my string is this Rick and then if I use split I saluted by a delimiter hash okay and if I say I want to print value at first index so let's see what it prints so it gives me name of all the companies okay so if I need values at first index now I will get address of all the companies similarly if I put two I'll get four four numbers right so now if I want name of company and then followed by their phone numbers and something like this zero and in between I want something like - or sort of any any other delimiter like this so this this is very easy to do here in Python so we can get data as as we want and you can see that I have written only t3 line of lines of code and that is sufficient for extracting that much information from this raw data so this is the power of Python we have lots and lots of features in there and they are in Python I suggest you to first go through all these functions and then pry out such example and you'll definitely learn more than what we just covered in this particular video thank you for watching this video stay connected footpath
