hi everyone this video will outline how to accurately create a reference list according to the 7th edition of APA style writing accurate references is important for giving credit to other people's contributions to your own work plus it allows your readers to look for more information about a topic if you are looking for information on how to create in-text citations within the main text of your paper I have a separate video for that which is linked to in the video description below the video description also contains timestamps that will jump you to various parts of the video so if you are just looking for one thing in particular use the timestamps to get there additionally the video description has a link to the document with all the examples in it that I am using in this video which you are free to use yourself now I will demonstrate everything here using Microsoft Word on a Windows computer if you are using word for mac an older version of word or a different word processing program entirely like Google Docs your reference references should still look the same but the menu options you select to make them might be in a different spot in order to get the most use out of this video I recommend pausing and rewinding as needed I also have formatting symbols displayed because they show every keystroke you make which is useful for formatting papers and references you can turn them on or off by clicking on the show/hide formatting button this is a long video so again I recommend looking at the video description for timestamps to skip to the information that is most relevant to you before we get into the details of creating specific references we first need to set up the reference list page the reference list will always start on the page after the end of the main text of your paper so wherever your paper ends move to the next page and write references in bold and centered at the top of the page the first entry in your reference list will start on the very next line you do not want extra or blank lines on the page the entire reference list is double-spaced just like the rest of your paper you also need to use a hanging indent if you're not familiar with that term a hanging indent refers to the indentation of lines after the first in a paragraph what this means here is that the first line of each reference is left-aligned while the second line third line etc are indented 1/2 inch there's a couple of ways to do this but I think the easiest way is to start by highlighting all of the text on your page then go into full line and paragraph spacing line spacing options now in here under spacing change line spacing to double and then under indentation where it says special change that to hanging...
