the simple asset manager is now available for free all right guys how's it going so the developer made the simple asset manager free four or five days ago now it is available on gumroad if you would like to give a donation i think it's ten dollars to be honest but it's also now free on gitlab.com i'll put all the links in the description down below you're more than welcome to check it out now i would imagine the developers made this free because while blenders now get its own asset manager or it's slowly getting integrated but it's taking a long time to be honest and there is a few kinks still to be worked out does this mean that simple asset manager is getting thrown out of the window no the developer is still working on it and i actually think you still got a place in your workflow now i'll let you make your final decision but we'll take a quick look now first of all when you enable it you set up your master preferences so this is essentially where the library will store and you can also set up the project library and that is pretty much it so open up the properties panel by pressing n you can see here under two we have the simple asset manager and it's very simple to be honest you can build up your libraries it goes into sub folders so for example i have hdri images and i'll just load any eh that i image perfect and this is a great little asset manager it's nice and easy there's nothing complicated about it if you want to have materials what you can do is you can set up a folder called materials and it'll basically append the materials from the blend file and the great thing about this is let's just quickly delete this you can add in the materials and it'll pretty much pull in the materials from the scene file now if you're obviously setting this up you want to maybe just do something like a sphere make your material save it and then add in a folder and it's great because it opens up fbx obj files it can save things like particles it can also save things like instances obviously and it's pretty fully fledged to be honest and it's nice and easy so for example i want to append this object i'll just append it right in the scene and we're jamming and that really is the simple asset manager now obviously you do have the asset manager coming from blender and i'm not saying you should run away and download this i'm just saying you should maybe weigh up your options because i really do like the simplicity of this now one thing is when you add something to the asset manager you really need to kind of build up your scene again or start blender again and you don't end up with thumbnails so generally what you'll do is you go to edit you go to preferences and you can see here render missing previews and this will pretty much give you previews and that really is the simple asset manager thank you to the developer for making it free and thank you for continuing to work on it do my favorite guys like your video subscribe to the channel if you haven't already follow me to our support my gumroad you know what to do take care
