[Music] today I'm talking about how to actually do add-ons or how to upsell your Kickstarter backers and you have basically a backer and they pledge at a specific rewards here the question is how do you increase the overall order value of that pledge how do you add on different things and upsell them so you actually raise more per individual backer and the tool we're gonna be using today to accomplish this is backer kits backer kit is also the sponsor of today's youtube video they are a great tool that has been around a while and I do recommend them so when I first give you an idea of like how this process looks and then get into the backend here the actual functionality so here's a simple project that I supported recently and then I also was a coach on the posture keeper pain relief and perfect posture in 60 seconds this Creator went through my complete crowdfunding system they launched the project they raised a bunch of money and they then use backer kit in order to do the surveys and the reward fulfillment of the project so what happened is you basically got an email if you were a backer saying we need your response click here to respond here is the deadline once you click that that link you would then be taken to a survey where you as a backer can input your information you can put in your shipping all of any kind of preferred choices that you have related to the reward and then that Creator will take that information a lot easier than the spreadsheets and will actually fulfill that reward or the handed off to a fulfillment company and have other youtube videos on that they'll hand it off to the fulfillment company he will then basically do the reward fulfillment for your project so I want to show you what that looks like and also how this opens up a window of opportunity where when someone comes and they're claiming the reward you can also present them with different add-ons to upsell their overall order so first I'm going to do is you're going to log in to backer kit or you're going to create a account that's already have an account here how's it gonna take you to the dashboard of backer hip and the cool thing I think about back is you can actually see the timeline here for a project so campaign begins I'm you then have to build your survey you survey you send these you can engage with backers finalize item counts charge credit cards all these other different things you can see very clearly what this timeline is going to look like in the fulfillment phase and also the tracking numbers related to your orders and all these different things rather than having to create spreadsheets to kind of track every element of this this is all done with this software which is pretty freaking cool it's the first part with building this is really where you're building your different items out or your add-ons or your these different items that you're offering so you could if you want to you go through there very easy tour you can you walk through this and they'll talk about what's the name of the item there's 70 options you basically go through this and you can create the items of your choices I've already created a few different customized add-ons here so you guys can really simply see but it is very simple too so we can also create one just so you can see what this is gonna look like if you have never done add-ons before and you're not too familiar with this I do recommend clicking and reading this best practice guide that backer kit has on creating survey add-on items so they do stuff like recommending having images stuff related to your relevancy and the shortness of your text how it should appear to people your shipping fees all this kind of stuff they basically offer a bunch of different advice and tips there so you can click the best practices there when it comes to your add-on so let's just create a new add-on so I can show you how easy it is and then we can preview what this is going to look like on the page so the first thing I'm gonna do with creating an add-on again this is like an upsell if you have it you're selling a jacket or something like that and one of the upsells are gloves that would be an example of an add-on for me you know I have different books that are out there that I've written so it's just for for today's example we can have one of my books be the the add-on here so one of the books that I've written is called blogging for beginners now to start grow and monetize a blog I also have a udemy course out there on this so for once you name your item you then need an image so what I do is I go to Amazon here I believe it's blogging book we'll see if this this comes to my book on blogging on blogging for beginners great book if you're interested in starting a blog like me I started my blog actually in 2012 so it's been there for a long time I also had a blog in high school that I hope no one ever reads it's really embarrassing but this is my first professional blog I started in 2012 and that's sort of what drew my online career and then I got more into podcasting and YouTube and like all these other things see basically you're gonna let that upload when that happens you can click done that should appear there once it does upload you also have your price here so like the price that you're offering this add-on for um I offer this book on Amazon for 10 bucks item as a creator's choice you can add different SKUs you put this in category like books collect shipping address obviously that's pretty important if you're shipping that to someone versus a digital product or digital item of sorts so you can customize all this information relates to this specific add-on you've got the title here you got description you got the image and then I'm gonna click Save you can see that that book was then added to these different add-ons you can claim when you when you claim the COR reward tier so this could be like if I'm creating I don't know a book I'm sorry a board game like to teach people how to do business or entrepreneurship these books could be add-ons to that board game or something like that these are the add-ons not the poor reward remember these are the actual upsells for the project and you can do other stuff you can get coupon code you can set the visibility you can see shipping profiles etc just so that you have a very quick sense of what this looks like we're gonna hit this preview the add-on page this is essentially when someone checks out what they are going to see so you have your pledge you have your reward and then you also have add any additional items to your pledge and these are the upsells or the add-ons this happens right before shipping so this is kind of like you're getting a chance a window of opportunity to upsell people right before they actually go through and they confirm their order so that you could add this one to the cart there you go that adds ten bucks you also want to learn about real estate craft finance we're also going to add that one to the cart so there you go you balance your extra balance there you have the different orders and add-ons and the actual core pledge level and that then would basically constitute your order or if you're not interested in any of these you can also just click skip to the next section now this is basically what your backer would see when you send them the survey via backer kit so this kind of gives you just a very simple glimpse of the functionality there in addition you can do stuff like you can add shipping fees so naturally shipping is is important you have different reasons that you're shipping to you could exclude certain countries you have these different shipping profiles it's important that you understand it does obviously cost money to have these add-on shipped to people and how that's going to impact things you can do that and you can set that how much you want to have as a shipping amount there also is support here so you could do stuff like do you want a basket to help you with your support if you have contact information you could add different project fa Q's shipping updates there's some integrations here etc so maybe you're expected shipping date just to give people an idea of when they're actually gonna get one of these things this is all really important information and really good marketing that you can very easily communicate to your backers now this gets a little bit more complicated here getting into reviewing the different pledge levels so what we just went over were the add-ons this is the actual pledge level so the $10.00 this is a test you know basically a $10 pledge level how many backers are at this level do you want to send surveys clips collect shipping address you have all this information here at your disposal you can also ask questions so you can create a new pledge question if you wanted to you can have different SKUs for the different pledge reward tiers you can browse the different questions that you already have or the add-ons at that tier so there's a lot of different information here for customizing the actual rewards that people are getting once you get into the survey you could preview that survey and how that's going to look for a particular backer so you can see what the email looks like you can have a custom blurb if you wanted to you could have that survey deadline that image this this is what we saw basically here when I was sent a survey with backer kit I had click here to respond we had the survey deadline we had what that email should include the images etc you can have the project image and upload that or social media links you're also gonna have pay it forward if you want there's a lot of information here that you can basically customize and if you wanted to you could also preview this survey and you could see what this would look like so this would be the the title here this would have the image how much it was raised what date it was funded on how many backers there basically this is this is just giving you an idea of what it would look like for someone out there who you know is then clicking through and like they enter all the information and then they have the add-ons here at their disposal so this is pretty simple to actually add on or do an EPS L for a project and I think it's a very it's kind of like a no-brainer if you don't want to go through all of the hassle of creating these different elements yourself now if you are wondering like okay so when should I send this survey how will this help me you know the cool thing about software is that it sort of gives you a checklist almost of the different things that you need to do before this is completed system so I have a few things that I needed to review like these add-ons are missing shipping fees that's a good thing because I would have made that mistake and then I have to pay for the shipping so it makes sure that you don't make some of these common crowdfunding pitfalls in addition I don't have any SK use I don't have any you know pledge levels do have any items designed so you have to assign an item to the pledge level like it's important that you remember to do these different things I don't have any fa Q's that's kind of giving me like hey buddy like you got to do this before we actually send this out to people they also recommend I'm waiting a full 14 days after your project is completed to setting the surveys there also are a few other recommendations like including your social media account so these different steps have to be completed before could request a review of this actual backer kid process so this is kind of cool because it kind of prevents you from making some of those mistakes that are actually kind of common with crowdfunding as an entrepreneur it's also difficult I think to stay on task so another thing I like about backing it is you can set these important dates of like when you're doing surveys when these are locked in when the estimated credit card charge date is and they'll send a notification so that way you are on schedule and you're making sure that this thing is getting done as seamlessly as possible I hope
