easier way to go about doing that building emails is kind of mysterious you know when I first got started in the industry I had no idea how to do that since then I built up an email list of over 20,000 subscribers my forum Kickstarter forum gorg has over 6,000 members I've learned a tremendous amount about what goes into launching an effective Kickstarter campaign or an effective IndieGoGo campaign I put all of that information into my recent book the Kickstarter launch formula which you can check out on Amazon if you want more information and I also just has put a lot of this information out there for free you know on this YouTube channel on my podcast on my blog I really like putting out free content because it is difficult to really crack this nut and to figure out how to not just launch a successful Kickstarter campaign but to have a strong first week that first week makes a huge difference in whether or not you are trending any crowdfunding platform of your choice it also makes a big difference in terms of the amount of money that you can raise on one of these platforms and that first week a lot of people are like well how do I actually gear up and launch make sure I have a powerful first week email is the answer to your question you must you absolutely must build an email list of relevant backers or people that are interested in whatever it is that you're offering the easiest way to do this and sort of the tried-and-true proven way to go about doing this actually a lot of internet marketers do this is actually this is this was actually talked a lot about on SO number 150 of the podcast which I put out with Eli regalado and Eli is the founder of Mad Hatter which is an agency that has raised lots and lots of money for Kickstarter campaign errs for IndieGoGo campaign airs and we discussed this strategy so I urge you to check out this longer form Podcast but to boil it down very simply if you build a landing page you ask for email opt-ins and you send cold traffic to that landing page ideally also you have some kind of an ask you're offering something for free or you're teasing the product and you're saying this is a giveaway or you're going to have access to limited quantity reward see those would be the first to know when the Kickstarter campaign goes live this is the easiest way to build a list of relevant email subscribers before you hit that launch button and go live on Kickstarter or IndieGoGo so let's break that process down first the landing page how's the landing page different than a normal website well a normal website you have your list you have you have the home you have lots of lists of blog post maybe you have your contact there's so many different things people can go and like click around it can be a little bit confusing like I know even on my own home page there are a lot of things you can do a landing page is optimized for one action and that action is people you can either decide to opt in and subscribe to your email list or they can close the browser window or they can click back those are the only options that people have and just constraining that the limited options that they have you can optimize for that one action that you want which is to join your email list in terms of the actual landing page and making it look pretty making it look appealing making sure you have lots of analytical data in terms of the number of people that convert into actual email subscribers you can use leadpages you can use instapage there are also a lot of options out there I myself use leadpages to give you an example I created Kickstarter for me org initially for free and it was very easy to register we've got a really big thriving community there and then at a certain point in the process I think it was probably like a year and a half ago possibly I set up this as a lead magnet so if you want to join the community that I have there you have to opt-in to my email list and when you do I will start to send you free video I'll start sending you free content educating you as to how to launch a successful Kickstarter campaign when you are doing this landing page when you're trying to get email subscribers in this method you have to ask yourself what are you providing why is it that someone would opt-in you know why is this going to make their life great or what are they going to get out of this process this is what this entire thing comes down to like you can have the landing page you can have the email list service provider you can even have that the campaign you're going to be launching in the future but unless you have a really compelling ask unless you have something that people want or the unless you're invoking curiosity this is all for naught this is all just wasted
