Add beholder text

okay we are going to do our first attempt at a long-form discussion format and i'm going to talk about some pretty complicated uh topics we are going to delve into the question is god beautiful do you believe god is beautiful and i'm gonna try to convince you that you don't actually believe that god is beautiful but that you should believe that god is beautiful i've got my cup of coffee you know scott adams he always does his morning sip of course for him he's like a hypnotist and so he's doing it because he's trying to get you to do it with him because to him he thinks that he's creating some kind of uh i don't know mental vibing between you and him by having a coffee together but for me i'm taking a sip of coffee because i have the best coffee so this is bolivian coffee i import the green beans from bolivia i don't import it i i get it from a coffee called a coffee company called invulsa and they sell you i think i got like a 50 pound bag of green coffee from bolivia from a micro farmer so i actually like have the picture and the name and the bio and the family of the person who grew this coffee then i roast it in a baymore drum coffee roaster and then we have a very very nice uh cappuccino maker that gives you this and look how beautiful that is i don't know if the camera picks this up but this is way prettier than anything that scott adams drinks and it's so good i'm talking about coffee i think a lot of people okay this is totally off topic but coffee is important especially if you're talking about beauty because coffee is beautiful a lot of people mistake the darkness of the roast and the level extract of extraction so a lot of coffee is under extracted and so it's a little weak and people think that it's just that the roast was too light but that's not true you want a light to medium roast with heavier extraction dark roast just means that you're going to taste more of a burnt smoky flavor and you get less caffeine actually from it the light and the medium roast give you more flavor of the coffee you get to medium roast and you start get some caramel notes you get some caramelization too but the dark roast is just more of a smoke right so if you feel like your coffee is weak it's probably not because you need a darker roast just because you need to use more coffee for the amount of water you're doing or you need to pack a tighter if you're doing an espresso or cappuccino i'm not an expert but i do love coffee as you see okay we're talking about beauty and my question is see this is a very complicated subject and i think i'm a much better writer than i am talking free form because i think the ideas i have are are they're very difficult to put together and so if i have the time to think about it and write it in an organized manner i think i can get a lot of times my ideas across better but i want to do these these uh live interview types things cause they're a lot of fun so i'm just gonna have to think about how i'm gonna approach this so there's four main studies in philosophy right there's metaphysics the this is the school of or the study of like what is reality what is real what are things there's epistemology and that's like the study of knowledge what we know how we know things like that is there truth do we know it uh there's morality ethics sorry which is what ought we do ethics is concerned with hotness not is-ness and then there's aesthetics which is the study of beauty is there beauty some philosophers don't um consider aesthetic some philosophers just believe in metaphysics and uh epistemology they don't even believe in ethics okay tangent sorry so for a long time now there's been this battle about is truth objective and of course christians and conservatives have always said truth reality is subjective it's noble truth is truth and postmodernists liberals they disagree they think that it's relative and we've been having this battle and it seems like it would be an easy battle to win right because obviously if you don't believe a wall's there that belief has nothing to do with the fact that when you try to walk through it you're gonna break your nose so this seems like a very easy debate but i think christians are missing a very important element that if we're gonna say that truth is objective that's true and reality is objective we also have to say more morality is objective which we do and of course the liberals disagree but then we also have to say beauty is objective and when it comes to that point we become relatives not me i'm using the general weak uh christians and conservatives tend to be relativists when it comes to beauty when it comes to beauty when it comes to art conservatives christians are usually taking the same line that truth is in the eye of the beholder that it's relative to whoever's viewing the art listening to the art tasting the art tasting the art this is art [Music] and the thing is all four of those branches of philosophy the metaphysics aesthetics morality um what did i forget epistemology they stand or fall as one you can't say that beauty is subjective and then turn around and say but morality is objective it's got to be all or nothing let me i'm going to get into why that is in a second here like i said this is very complicated material okay so we're gonna have to get into the cosmological argument uh and this argument just basically shows that god created out of nothing that there was a a moment of time a minute passes right if we go regress a minute by minute by minute by minute by minute there has to be a beginning minute if there was an infinite amount of minutes we could never transgress that our trans we we can never what's the word i'm looking for we can never get through an infinite amount of minutes to arrive at our current minute it's an illogical absurdity there was a beginning to time and space and reality and it's very hard to think about because our minds and our language cannot say much that's true about any subject that deals with infinity because we're finite our language is fine our language is very good at describing finite things but as soon as we try to describe or get wrap our minds around something that's infinite our minds break down our language breaks down we do not have the language to describe infinity right so that moment before creation and do you hear what i just said i said before creation that's a logical absurdity because i don't have the language to describe what i'm thinking right now that moment of creation before creation is the same thing because we're talking about infinity there was god and it's not like there was god then there was creation because that moment of creation there was nothing before it there was no before creation there was just god there was just infinity there was just god right and he created everything ex nia hilo out of nothing and a lot of people this is kind of tricky because did god create out of nothing or did he base it on something else and let's listen about this so the very idea of truth god created that it's not like there was some kind of concept of truth and then when god created he created according to that concept when he created the universe he created that concept that idea that reality of truth along with his creation okay and when he created beauty beauty there was no pre-existing idea of beauty that he created accordingly to make this world beautiful to make things are beautiful he created the very concept the very idea of beautiful beauty now did he create these things truth goodness morality beauty things like that these abstract ideas that he brought into existence with reality did he create them ex nihilo did he create them based on a third standard that existed with god no because god was everything then so there was no third standard or did he base and this is the important part he based these things upon himself okay that's what we need to understand there was infinity there was infinity just god and out of that infinity of god everything got created including the abstract ideas of beauty and that abstract idea of beauty was based on who he is who god is that is a very important thing to to understand that i think christians and conservatives kind of have let go something is beautiful because it is like what god is the more similar something is to god the more beautiful it is and god is infinite so we have an infinite amount of beauty that we something some kind of painting can be beautiful and then a poetry then some music there's so there's just no limits to the beauty because god is infinite so things that could be like god there's an infinite infinite amount of possibilities of things that can be created that are in some way like god and therefore beautiful so we need to understand that and that makes beauty objective you cannot say that god possesses any good attribute in an infinite way but in a relative way god is objectively beautiful and he is infinitely beautiful okay he's not beautiful because someone beholds him and thinks in his beholding that god is beautiful it's not a matter of opinion that god is beautiful god is beautiful in fact the whole idea and concept of beautiful flows from his nature and who he is i hope everyone's following me here so far and it's the same thing with truth and that's why i said all the metaphysics the morality everything stands our faults are one because either reality truth beauty morality did i say that twice they all follow from the fact that god created the universe out of the infinity that was him if any one piece of those falls then god is not god because if god is not infinitely beautiful then he's not god okay god must be infinitely beautiful infinitely true i mean that true as in truly existing and true in everything that he does an infinitely powerful omniscient if god lacks a name those omnis then he's not god okay so god is infinitely beautiful now i said at the beginning i want to convince you that you haven't really believed that now everyone's probably ascending to what i said that god is beautiful that he's infinitely beautiful and that um that's that's true and that's important but how is that reflected in your actions in your life well when i go to church i hear music that's so terrible that i i just want to i don't know jam scissors in my ears it's just terrible we don't have an actions we don't have behavior that reflects that god is beautiful and that is important the predominant i think attitude especially among evangels and i i consider myself basically theologically and evangelical if not in practice i'll do a video on that later um is that music it either serves what the pastor is saying like the pastor and pastors the pastor's got some message and the whole point of music is to have lyrics that confirm what the pastor is about to say that's ridiculous or another predominant attitude is music we just should have culturally relative music to try to get people to come to church also ridiculous music is beautiful you don't need you don't need any other justification that music is beautiful it tells us something abstract about god that language cannot and the more beautiful it is the more it is like god the more it communicates those beautiful things about god okay we don't need any more justification music can be an act of worship and then of itself okay so the way we pursue beauty in our music complexity fineness skill that reflects how seriously we take that statement that god is infinitely beautiful and that is important and true it's the same thing with what we do with art poetry we need to rise above contemporary christian music we need to rise above the hymns the hymns a lot of people have and by the way i have a master's degree in music i've been a professional music for decades professional musician for decades um so this is something i know a lot about hymns aren't good either a lot of people have this like mistaken idea that hymns are like well crafted like classical music no most of them are just awful awful awful and then when you just sing like the soprano line with some organ just beating out the four-part harmony is terrible so the hindi and the contemporary christian songs most of it is just so terrible and when i hear it my only conclusion is the people who are pursuing this level of art don't believe that god is beautiful they don't believe that that is important they don't believe that that is true so this is true in the things that we enjoy um when you're listening to music you should listen to music that uh remind you of god just the music i'm not talking about the lyrics i'm talking about the actual music the same thing with art we should want to engage in viewing art that is beautiful and good and fine uh same thing with food i think food culinary art is under estimated it's one of the best arts there is yeah that's good that's beautiful i hope i didn't get too heady in that it's hard to say i don't know maybe you guys can make comments and tell me that everything that i said was just confusing nonsense or if you followed what i was saying or i thought it was meaningful you can tell me i really appreciate some feedback here and we'll have a new abstract weird topic maybe in a week and i'll review this video and work on my communication skills
