Add being conditional
in this video I'm going to demonstrate how to add conditional branching within a workflow the first method available is to set conditions on the connector between two actions or between a trigger and an action in a workflow if the conditions are met the workflow will proceed to the next action if the conditions fail the workflow will be aborted while defining conditions you need to specify an input an operator and an expected value the input that you use in conditions is usually the output of the preceding action or trigger now that you understand how conditions work let's try to use it within a workflow in this example the workflow is being triggered by a generator alert with an alert type either set to low fuel or to high temp for the low fuel Alert I want to follow this path and send an email for the high temp alert I want to follow this path and send a text message to do this we're going to add conditional logic on the connection between these two actions click on the connection and select settings in the settings dialog select add condition for the input field we're going to use the alert type that is being passed in to the trigger for the condition set it to text matches and for the expected value set it to low fuel you you will notice once a condition is set on the connection it will change from a solid line to a dashed line let's repeat this process for the connection for the high temp alert condition set the input to alert type condition is set text matches and the expected value is heightened you must click 'save in order to commit these changes now we are ready to execute this workflow I'm going to trigger this with an alert type set to low fuel as the workflow runs the path that is executed will be highlighted in green the path that is not executed will be highlighted in red you another method that can be used to define cadet branching is to use the switch action this allows you to find a number of possible execution paths for your workflow in the switch action you can add one or more cases each case can contain one or more conditions and a next step that will be performed if the defined conditions are met the action also includes a default block that can specify the action to be executed if none of the conditions are met let's demonstrate this by reworking the previous example start by deleting the connections add the switch action you next I'm going to hover over the switch action and launch settings in settings add a new case change the label of this to low fuel for the input set it to Alert type condition is text matches and the expected value is low fuel for the action this will initiate select low fuel alert a new case change label for this - hi Tom set the input field to alert type text condition is set to text matches and the expected value is height umph action this will initiate two high temp alert you will notice that a connection has been created between the switch and the corresponding actions for each case let's test this by triggering the workflow with a loader type set to low fuel you will notice as the work flow runs the paths that are executed will be in green you
