Establish byline template

[Music] hey guys today we're gonna be exploring word and creating the newspaper template on the left you're gonna notice that the margins are smaller on the newspaper template so how do we change the margins you first have to click page layout and then on the very left there is the margins they have some preset templates I usually always use narrow or normal but you can customize the margins if you want so we're gonna start off with the box of the front you can insert a shape the default color is blue which is great because that's the same color in the template and then you can start typing in your text now if you want to resize the text you're gonna go back to the Home tab and change the font to however big that you want it also it naturally puts it in the center justification and you want to make it on the left justification now you're also gonna notice that there's a big space between the and extra news so how do we get rid of that there's two ways that you could do it the first way is the spacing in a paragraph now I'm just gonna make it a little bit bigger but there's too much space right now so if you highlight the text that you want to change the spacing up there's a more options in paragraph you're gonna make it single spaced and don't add space between texts so it decreases the space between the an extra but there's still too much space so how do you get to have it with no space just like in the template how do we do that so you can actually put in a text box so you need to manually put in a text box in your rectangle already so if you go to insert text box sometimes that menu will not pop up depends on how big your screen is but we're gonna have a first text box for the and we're going to italicize that make a little bit bigger but there's a border around it and there's also a white background so how do we get rid of that you go to the text box options in the orange tab and you're gonna have no outline so that your black border goes away and you're gonna hit no fill then your white background goes away we're gonna change the text color to white now you'll notice that the a will also turn white and it looks like there is no underline you just have to remember that it's the white font color we're gonna put another text box or extra news and we're gonna do the same thing we're gonna change the font size to however big that you want it place it and then remove the fill and the outline the same way that we did before now I'm changing the font to Arial black because I knew that that's what font was being used but when you're doing her in these paper templates you can choose whichever fine you want you so now we're gonna move to the next part which is the all about the big world we live in you can do the same thing by inserting a text box but I find that putting in a table is a bit easier because my alignment will stay the same so I'm just gonna type in the words first all about the world we live in on the left and then oops sorry about the world wrong and on the right exclusive news today so my exclusive news today you'll notice it's in the middle I want to make it on the right justification so I'm gonna change that and then you'll also notice that sorry all capitals he'll also knows that there's a border around the table so I want to get rid of that let's change the font size first italicize it get rid of the spacing and I'm gonna play around with the font sizes so the spacings the way that I want and so we need to remove the borders of the table so how do I do that you're gonna highlight their table there's gonna show up as the table tools in yellow and there's two tabs design and layout if you go to the design tool that's how you get rid of your borders so if you click no borders every single border is going to disappear so you'll notice that there is a dotted grid around your table it's not that they show up it used to be a solid black line but now if you have the dotted lines and that means that it shows you where your margins are for your table but it doesn't actually print it if your grid lines are not showing up on your screen you probably haven't selected a particular property so if you go back to your layout they have an option to view gridlines if you click it it'll disappear and you can keep enabling or disabling it I usually always have few gridlines enabled because I want to know where I've put in a table in my Microsoft Word document if you want to put in the bottom line you can just hit the bottom borderline even though there's no table and I'll put that in for you and I'm gonna put in the table again for your headline is here you could do the shape as well it doesn't matter either or is fine it makes no difference what you do I'm just gonna change the font again to Arial black because I I know it's that Fontan I want it to look exactly the same where it's exact as possible now how do you get the fill into the table the same idea you're gonna hit the shading for your table pick whichever color you want in the design tab and the table tools and then you can change the font color the same way that you did in the Home tab but again remember we've been changing all of the font colors to white so that bottom thick bar might not show up because it's white on a white background so now I'm gonna insert another table to get my information or my article and you can notice that there's kind of four quadrants but they're not equal four quadrants so let me just change the spacing of it so it looks more similar to the template okay so if you want to move the line you'll notice if you don't highlight anything it moves all of the grids and I'm just gonna move this one over here so how did I do that you remember if I did the previous one it moved both lines if you want to do an individual cell you need to click the cell or highlight the cell to change the one border line otherwise it's going to change both of them change it for the whole table so I'll show it again I can move this one because they're no longer intact but if I move this over and align them if I go back and try to move it again it's gonna move both of them like that so I have to highlight the cell and now it knows that I only want to move it for that particular cell so I'm going to change the font so that it's a bit bigger it's more similar to the I'm going to paste my picture in you can use the snipping tool if you want the exact one or you can google it it's totally up to you just gonna resize that like so okay and now I still have my borders around it so I'm gonna remove the borders again for the table so that they don't show up in my newspaper template so I can highlight the whole table by clicking the black arrows at the top left corner click my borders now you can hit no borders but you notice that you actually want to segment your article so I just clicked outside so it gets rid of my outside borders and I want to keep that bottom border so I'm gonna highlight both of the cells and then it'll know to put the bottom border for both but I also removed that border in between the bottom row because I don't want it to show up so I can put in my shape for the bottom it's the same way that you did it for the extra news you can put in a shape you can still put in a table but you'll notice that there's a gap there so it's probably easier to put in the shape and you're gonna do the same steps that you did for the extra news so you can type in your title but again you might notice that the spacing might not be great so let's try it out here see what happens we type stuff yeah so it's probably not gonna work because I don't even have that much room so I'm gonna I'm gonna have to delete what I came up with but let's just work on the small box on the side that part's easy nothing to do there but let's get the text box soon you so I'm gonna go insert my text box again on top of my text and retype it your title here oops I forgot to delete the one that I wrote previously so let's delete that it's a text box where it's supposed to be X make the font a bit bigger and then I'm gonna do the same steps to remove the outline and remove the fill in the drawing tools those colored tabs they usually disappear if you're not selecting the thing that you want to change so and again the fonts white so you might not see that far I have to put in another text box or go to the insert tab text box again and draw my text box here and I can type whatever I want blah blah and once again we have to remove the shape fill and outline and I just changed my font color because I know it has to be white and then you can play with the alignment you can also use the arrow keys on your keyboard if you want to nudge it in case your hand coordination it's not the greatest mine's not great but you can also use the keyboard arrows to nudge it into small increments let's change the text sorry of the box into the same color and then you can type whatever you want from there it doesn't really matter yeah but keep in mind that the newspaper should be in full justification that means that the left and right of your text will be aligned with each other like that you'll notice also that I can't type underneath the picture and won't let me type what you can do is if you click the picture you can click end on your keyboard so hit end it's next to your Delete key and then if you hit enter it'll start a new space and then you should be able to start typing underneath the picture like so and then I can type in whichever box I want I'm not actually sure why it moves that margin but you can just move it back it's not a big deal and then that's it
