i was diagnosed in june of 2016. yeah i mean it was pretty overwhelming i feel like i didn't really expect that i would get cancer being being a kid at the time it was definitely life changing i was i was devastated when i found out we were on one plane thinking about his treatment plan and he was thinking about how can he get out of this hospital and go be with his friends she was four months old when she was diagnosed we discovered that she had a genetic predisposition to cancer a big thing for us when she was going through treatment was to try to keep life as normal as possible for her i just want her to be happy find what she loves and do that and be happy with her life [Music] back in 2004 i was complaining of some mild stomach pain they found out that i had wilms tumor which is a type of kidney cancer i was told that i wouldn't be able to do any more sports or things like that so i was petrified i wanted to be a normal kid i wanted to be out in the community and i wanted to be back in school and i felt like i wouldn't be able to do any of those things one of the things the doctor asked what would you be doing if you were not in this hospital and he said i would be at camp so that's where we first heard about camp one step i saw pictures in the clinic and it was always curious it was ski camps and all these just pictures of kids having fun my first exposure was camp is when i was around seven years old and i was super interested to that so i told my mom i was like mom we definitely have to go to this and then she signed me up right away when we got there we were so amazed everyone coming together in unison and all these kids so excited and they're talking and they're laughing and me here was suddenly filled with a lot of excitement this was an opportunity for him to be the kid again [Music] i was really nervous at first because it was such a big camp but i got to learn like a lot of really cool things i met some of my lifelong friends there so that's really fun i was with a program called water sports which is where we go scuba diving and paddle boarding and water skiing and i completely fell in love with it i trade pickleball for the first time which is still a sport that i play today with my brother at home camp was one of the places where i always felt comfortable trying new things and like getting out of my comfort zone so me here went there and when he came back he was just bursting with...
