I don't know about you, but every time I go and buy tickets for a big concert, they're always crazy expensive. So why is that? This is KN Explains Concert Ticket Prices. ♪ [upbeat rock] All the top artists, from Blackpink to Harry Styles, have millions of fans, which means the demand for tickets is going to be higher than the supply. There are a few seats available, and a lot of people want to go. So some people won't be able to make it. So it's no wonder the tickets sell out, right? Except a lot of those sold out tickets are resold on what is called the secondary market and they are listed for way more than what they were originally sold for. The secondary market is also known as the resale market. It's second to the primary market where tickets are first put up for sale. On the primary market artists and their team set the ticket prices. They get that money and ticket selling platforms get paid through fees. The secondary market is where tickets are resold and whoever's reselling them sets the prices. So who is reselling tickets at crazy prices? Studies show that professional resellers make up most of the secondary market. Unlike fans who might have changed their mind or can no longer go, the pros were never planning on going to the concert. They're not the true fan. They just want to make money. Abigail: Pros use bots to buy up lots of tickets way faster than regular fans can. Then they turn around and sell them for a profit. Plus the original artist doesn't get a cut. Well, most of the time. More on that in a bit. The big winners are the resellers and the platforms they resell on. And the biggest platform, Ticketmaster. You probably know them as the first place you go when tickets are released. But at the same time, Ticketmaster is also helping the greedy resellers. Abigail: That means the same ticket could be sold on Ticketmaster more than once. Each time a ticket is sold on their platform, they get paid. Ticketmaster says their resale marketplace is meant to help fans resell to other fans, and that they put guards in place to prevent the use of bots. [buzzer] But experts say, for the most part, the pros are still winning out. The results... ..speak for themselves. So what can be done? Economists say tickets are being priced too low to begin with. If people are willing to pay more, then someone can take advantage of that gap and sell them for more. One possible solution, artists could charge higher prices at the start. This would make reselling less worth it. But artists don't want to jack their prices up for a variety of reasons. They genuinely want their fans to be able to afford to come see them. They also want to uphold their image, and charging thousands of dollars for their tickets isn't...
