I guess welcome back to my channel today I'm doing the third video in my boards and a logo series if you have seen the first two videos in this series I am just talking through all the different aspects for you to be able to build a really strong cohesive brand because you need more than just a beautiful logo to create a visual identity for your business so if you haven't seen the first two I will link them both up here throughout this video and first one I talked about why you need more than a logo and the benefits of building a full brand and the second one I've talked about building a color palette for your brand so that you have a really strong foundation to work with in terms of the colors that you're going to be using throughout everything so in this third video we are going to be talking about collateral so let's go ahead and jump in so first off what even is collateral so if you guys might not be familiar with that word it's definitely a term that a lot of designers use but if you're not a designer then you might not know exactly what that means but collateral is just an overall term for any aid that you use for your business whether it's visual and actually physically printed out or media like something on your social media so there's so many different types of collateral and what you need will really depend on your specific business so the first thing that I suggest is to take some time and sit down and write through your entire client or customer process whether you're a service based business like a designer and you work with clients starting an email and then you go through your whole design process and then you give them some sort of finished product at the end or you sell an actual physical product so somebody's going to your store they're purchasing something and then you have to talk into it and send it to them if you write down your entire process all the steps that you guys go through when you're talking to clients and interacting with them can really help you narrow down what you need for your collateral you can also still need collateral if you don't necessarily sell something for instance if you're an influencer or a blogger and it can be really helpful to have some collateral to go along with the branding for your website for the videos that you create or even for the emails where you talk to different companies about working with them having really nice branded collateral for all of those types of situations will make your life way easier and it will really show a more cohesive put together visual identity for your brand so I wanted to talk through a few of collateral pieces that are super popular that most people need and just give some tips on how you can bridge those to match your logo your color palette the whole kind of digital identity that you're putting together and then the end of this video I will let you guys know about a blog post that I did on my website where you can get some templates that I've already created for free to kind of help you get started in creating these pieces of collateral for your own business so the first thing that is probably very obvious is a business card almost everybody has one of those even if you're an influencer or blogger if you're going to networking events and you definitely want some sort of business card or contact cards and that is one of the biggest places where you can kind of continue branding your business is through your business card and the biggest thing I would say is to have fun with it your business cards and that has to be super boring or kind of professional like just your logo on the front and your contact information on the back you can do lots of fun things you can letterpress it you can add color you can even define you know one business card and then print it inside different colors so you have a variety you can get the edges of the business card colored you can even go outside of the normal business card shape and do something else it's kind of more fun for example a client of mine right now is creating a business card out of the little top things that go in the back of your phone those little kind of handle things and she's going to have those and use that as her business card in hand those up so if you're really creative with it I would say if you've gone through a video number one and number two then you should have a good yeah of the kind of brand that you're going for so stick to your branded colors that you've come up with in your palette and stick to a few branded font this is going to be the same throughout all the collateral and pretty much all of the branded things that I talked about in a series but if you do those two things if you stick to your brand colors and your brand fonts then that will help cohesively tie everything together so next after business cards is something this more digital and I social media across all of your social media platforms there's places where you can kind of put in branded elements whether that's your profile picture or a header on a page like on Twitter or Facebook if you go through and make sure that all of those you know kind of match and align with your brand and that's going to really create a cohesive platform and that way it will be easier somebody comes across your Twitter page for example may see some sort of branded header image with your colors or your fonts your logo doesn't even have to be on it but if it matches your brand and it's got those similar elements that you're using over and over people are going to be able to recognize you and that's exactly what you want you want people to be able to kind of recognize your brand aesthetic without necessarily seeing your logo so social media is a super important one and along with that on the digital front email signatures are another great place where you can put it a little icon or even if you just put your email signature in one of your branded fonts that will really help to keep it cohesive so I'm just going to go ahead and name a few other collateral pieces that you might be wanting to use for your business or you might not have thought about the you could brand so if any of these are kind of applicable to your company your business whatever you do make sure to kind of comb through done and a branded elements whether that's a little icon your colors your fonts you know powering you throughout your brand even images that are in that same branded style and everything else we do we'll keep it super cohesive so if you are a few other exists of collateral that you might be using for your business and you are a service based business like a designer a contractor you give people inside to creative coach something like that some collateral pieces you might need our invoices and proposal templates those don't have to be super fancy but again if you're just adding in little branded illness that will really make it kind of align with your company better than just being a really important document contracts also if you're a product based business and your packaging is super important you definitely want to brand that they're going to have to be expensive at the beginning you know you don't have to get custom boxes made but even if you have a little sticker made that you close the package with tissue paper that you can get printed or even just the cute thank-you card that you put into your boss that's all collateral that you definitely should think about if you have a store or you're selling things you can also think about branding the Hang tags and the labels on your products if you are an influencer or blogger or even if your company just has a blog another great thing to brand is templates so blog post templates normally if you have some sort of title blog post image that you can paint a Pinterest or you even on Instagram branding those really great and that is a big time-saver also that's another reason why it's great to kind of go through your process and see what you use on a daily basis because if you're doing blog post every week you don't want to be creating something from scratch in Photoshop every time you have a blog post so if you create a template to go off of then you can just go and it change out the title change the image if there is one and then save it and that will take you two minutes it'll be really aligned with your brand it's going to be super consistent and recognizable for people and that just really saves you time and energy and effort so that's a big one with branded templates for your blog posts for Pinterest even things that you post on Instagram if you're posting quotes or little graphic inspiration kind of creating a template for those will make it really easy for you and really recognizable for people who are following along with your company there are so many options when it comes to collateral and there's any different touch points that you have depending on your business so like I said the biggest thing is to go through your process figure out what things are going to be most helpful for you you all have to sit down this week and try and create 20 different pieces of collateral just think of the five most important things for you whether that's a template an invoice of thank-you cards some stickers for packaging whatever it is for your company those five things that customers are most likely to see that's what you want to spend time on and brand so like we mentioned at the beginning our blog post for you guys which I'll link down below where I talked a little bit more about creating branded templates and collateral for your business so probably all of you have social media accounts that's one of the biggest places where new customers are going to see you where other people are going to get to know your business so creating templates that are really quick and easy and match your brand is a great way to start with changing out this collateral to create a more cohesive visual identity so like I said I will leave that blog post down below when you go and read that you can download for free six tablets that I've
