have to earn one hundred twenty five thousand Southwest rapid reward points within a calendar year and once you earn those points within the calendar year you'll have the Southwest companion pass for the remainder of that year plus the entire year following so for example I'm filming this February 2020 if you earn the Campania past March 2020 you'll have it for the rest of 2020 plus all of 2021 so the strategy here is to try to earn the companion pass or get 125,000 Salus wrapper reward points as soon as you can in the beginning of the year so you can maximize the time that you have with a companion pass timing is very important with the Southwest companion pass you have to remember it's within the calendar year so if you earn 60,000 points in December and then January you earn 60,000 points then you're only gonna have 60,000 points with in January for that calendar year December won't count next let's talk about which points qualified towards the Southwest companion test not all Southwest points are gonna count towards that hundred twenty-five thousand so in this next section I'll go over exactly which points are gonna count which points won't count towards the companion pass first let me go over the four things that officially do count towards the companion pass first is any points earned from paid flights then points earned from credit cards spent including signup bonuses points earned from the Southwest rapper war points shopping portal but certain seasonal bonuses don't count and a point to earn from partners but not all partners and I'm going to go over those specific examples later on to go more into detail of which points actually count first let's talk about the easiest and fastest way to earn the most amount of Southwest rapper more points it's credit card to sign up bonuses and now filming February 2020 it is the best time ever and easiest ever to get the Southwest Campania pass with the current credit card sign up offers currently there are 30 personal Southwest credit cards if the Southwest Plus card Southwest premier card Southwest priority card then there are two business credit cards with Southwest the Southwest premier business and the Southwest performance business so the sign of buffers are gonna constantly change throughout the year just for the sake of this video in February 2020 the Sakura sign up offers for the personal version so for the plus the premier the priority card is gonna be 75,000 rapid reward points which is a great deal and then for the business cards the performance business card is gonna have a 70,000 mile sign up offer and the premier business card is gonna have a 60,000 mile sign up offer now there are some rules when it comes to getting the credit cards with Southwest and actually earning the bonuses so there's a 24 month rule in place for the personal versions of these Southwest credit cards so if you have any of these Southwest credit cards of personal versions or if you're planning on getting it these rules are really important so basically you're only allowed to have one personal Southwest credit card and get the bonus every 24 months if you you can't get all three of those personal cards you could only choose one within a 24 month period but when it comes to the business credit cards you're actually allowed at the time of film in this video you're allowed to get both business credit cards at one time so essentially if you want to get the Southwest companion pass ideally you're gonna want to get one Bert one business one personal or if you can get business credit cards you could just go for two business credit cards and with either one of these combinations you're gonna get over a hundred twenty-five thousand Southwest rapper reward points which will the fall of the previous year that you plan on getting the sign up offer so for example let's say you get a credit card sign up offer like one of these cars that I mentioned and you apply for it in November of 2020 but you hold off on the spending to get the sign up offer until January cuz let's just say the sign up offer to keep it simple is you spend $3,000 in three months and you get 60,000 Southwest rapid reward points so you do some spending on that card and then let's just say you don't spend the entire 3000 on that card within of 2020 and you wait to complete the final amount of minimum spending in January of 2020 which will then give you those points in January hopefully is or whenever the points will post this way your points will post as quickly as possible within the year and you'll have almost up to two full years of the Southwest Campania pass now with this strategy you have to be really careful I've heard some stories where some people by accident they paid their or they completed the minimum spending within that first year and they got the sign up offer within the previous year and weren't able to apply those points for the sign up for the Southwest Campania pass for the following year so that strategy you have to be careful it takes some planning and strategy another important note about these Southwest credit cards is the 5:24 rule this means you open five cards or more in the past 24 months you won't be eligible for any cheese credit cards as well as the Southwest credit cards and if you want to learn more about the 5:24 role I'll have a link down purchases so if you wanted to spend 125,000 dollars within a calendar year on the southwest credit cards and then you'll earn the Southwest Campania pass it that way but there are some other shortcuts to get more points per dollar when it comes to Southwest purchases what are the strategies is 1-800 flowers so with this method you'll be able to earn 12,000 Southwest companion points the way it works is if you make a purchase from 1-800 flowers that is $29.99 or more and use the promo code our r22 then you're gonna get a thousand Southwest rapid war points which qualify for the Southwest companion pest now the only thing is you're limited to 12 times a year to do this so you're gonna get 12,000 points for doing this purchase so that's the ideal method but if you need to top off your those points qualified towards the companion pass next way to earn points is through a hotel partner so if you look at this page here on the southwest website if you book any nights at these hotels then you're gonna earn points for your stays here and not only just hotels but rental cars as well dining so if you look through this partner page you can see that for your regular purchases that you would normally make maybe you could actually earn some extra Southwest points for that as well and all of these points earned through this program through the partners will actually qualify towards the companion pass as well and if you book hotels through rocket miles then you could earn qualifying points in that way as well so rocket miles is a hotel booking site that rewards you with airline miles Hotel points whichever you decide to choose and Southwest Companion Orsat what Southwest rapid reward points counting towards the companion pass will qualify and next is referral bonuses so if you have a Southwest credit card you can actually refer friends family co-workers whoever and you could refer to any Southwest credit card it doesn't just have to be the one that you have basically you get 10,000 points per referral for every person who signs up through your link and get to prove then you get 10,000 points with a maximum of 50,000 points for the year now there's a really cool strategy to actually use this to your benefit so if you earn any referral points after your December statement closes then any referral points earn after that closing statement will count towards the following year for example let's say that your closing statement with the Southwest credit card is on December 15th and you decide to refer five friends from December 16th until December 31st now you get 50,000 points and these 50,000 points will actually post to your account starting January 1st so by doing this method you can actually start the year with 50,000 points assuming you're able to get those five referrals then any other points you get further the remaining of that following year will also count so you can have the referrals within a month or two of each other and it'll still count towards these Southwest Campania Pass this could be a great way to get a hundred thousand points as soon as possible especially if you already have the credit cards and you're looking for ways to earn Southwest ticket for yourself personally and you have the companion pass you are allowed to add your companion later on if you want a common question is can you add your companion to the reservation if someone bought the ticket for you with rapid reward points yes you can so it doesn't matter who has the wrapper and reward points and buys your ticket it could be a family member a friend whoever has wrappered war points if they buy a ticket for you and you're on the reservation then you can add your companion for free so this is a great strategy if you know anyone who has rapid war points and wants to be generous enough to share it with you and even if it's your companion you could still add or you could still add the companion to your ticket even if it's not your points those transferring chase points over to Southwest count towards the Southwest Companion past no unfortunately it doesn't so if you earn chase ultimate or war points through sign up offers like with the Sapphire cards or anything like that and let's just say you transfer a hundred thousand chase ultimate reward points over to Southwest none of those transferred points will count towards the Southwest companion pass are you allowed to change a flight that you booked with a companion booking yes you can the only thing is you need to cancel that reservation and then book a new reservation so you're not really changing you're just cancelling and doing a new reservation can you book a flight with your companion but you not be on the flight as the primary companion pass holder no you can't so for in order for your companion to fly you always need to be on the same flight as your companion on the same reservation there's no way that you could have two other people or whoever fly as a companion if you're not on the reservation what happens if you book a companion reservation and your companion can't make the flight how do you how do you deal with that so really simple you just cancel the companion on the reservation and you get whatever taxes you paid refunded to your credit card do you need to carry the Southwest companion pass the actual physical pass when traveling with Southwest doing companion Affairs no you don't so it's more just to have it with you and you do all the booking online and once you have the reservation booked then you don't need that companion pass with you does the companion that you're flying with earn soundless rapid war points as well no they don't they're not earning any points on any flights that they take so the companion is just coming along there's no
