Add customer credit card
hey folks Randy here doing cutting trim so a question I've gotten a lot and I've seen asked a lot is how do you get customers to put their credit card on file and I want to answer that question because we are a credit card on file only company we have a couple customers that are grandfathered in on our old system and we have a couple like we're a little bit more flexible with commercial clients as far as how they pay us but I think it's literally safe to say we are either 98 or 99 percent of our customers our credit card on file and so I wanted to tell you how I did that and there was a little bit of a learning process here but this video will help you if you're trying to make that switch so when we first started what we did was we were just you know however you wanted to pay us is how we were fighting with you paying us cash under the mat checking the mail PayPal venmo wasn't a thing yet you know just however you want to pass you could pass didn't matter one pass after every service one pass once a month that's fine it was fine the problem was cashflow is he on the beginning of your businessman cash flows a huge huge thing that you got to get under control and I didn't so a couple months into my first season I realized I wanted to do credit card on file I've been following lawn care millionaire for a while at that point and you know his business software service autopilot I knew that you could keep cards on file and charge him after each service and I had a friend of mine that used service autopilot so switch the service autopilot and so now I could keep credit cards on file and charge them after each service I was using yard book before and I believe yard book has that functionality now but in 2016 they didn't have it yet at least in June of 2016 they didn't have it so I switched to service autopilot and now I was officially gonna start accepting credit cards you know or keeping them on file so I really wanted to move everybody on that system and so what I but I I wasn't sure how to go about it so what I did was all brand new customers I don't think I even did that no you know what no I kind of gave everybody the option I didn't require credit cards on file until 2017 but what I did was all my existing customers I actually called and it was awful it's like I was calling them those like I'm positive spin on it hey this is Randy with dueling cut and trim and we wanted to tell you about an exciting new payment option for your account we you can now pay with credit card on file and we'll charge it after each service is that sound like something you'd want to do and the overwhelming response was no why would I want to do that and so I mean a couple people did switch over there was a couple of folks they were like perfect that means I don't have to think about you at all yes sign me up but most but most of the folks were like no but then once it was time to what the next season started I needed a way to start getting customers to sign up for the credit card on file you know and just do that but I I just wasn't comfortable telling people so I needed to figure out a way to I needed to figure out a way for them to find out and just go with it and so I kind of relied on something I've learned you know in life which is if you don't want it to be a big deal don't make it a big deal so what I did is when I was signing up customers whether it was on the phone or over email no matter what you know you have to accept the electronic service agreement with us and so what would happen let's just say if somebody called I would say you know alright so and so you know say over the phone for that we'll figure out what your price okay your price would be 35 bucks per cup they say perfect I don't look great I'll send you the service agreement here in a couple minutes follow the steps in that email we'll get you on the schedule great and we hung up and we never even talked about payment terms it's so then when I sent them the service agreement you know they click on that service agreement and it's the description lawn mowing service date will say Tuesdays payment and in that payment is section it said payment via credit card on file at time of service and then in parentheses in italics directions for putting your card on file will be will be email will be sent automatically once once agreement accepted or something along those lines and that's how I handled it just didn't bring it up and just didn't make a big deal this is why we do it and now if somebody would ask I would say we accept payment via credit card on file and you know there might be a conversation there but you know I I just never brought it up and so I stopped making it a big deal and the thing is when you stop making stuff a big deal it stops becoming a big deal to you so then after like probably a month of doing that payment via credit card on file and requiring customers to have a card on file it stopped being weird to me so it started becoming a thing where if a customer was like I don't want to put my card on file alright that's fine I have a list of options in your area you know great companies that might be able to serve you better and stay on it like that because I don't want people that don't want to pay that way so that's how I've handled it you know I mean I haven't had any shortage of customers as a result of it I mean you know the last couple of years we've been running well over a hundred customers active mowing customers per year so I mean things are going well so that's how I handle it just don't make a big deal out of it you know you don't make if some if you make it so something's not a big deal it won't be a big deal it's just the easiest way to do it man so Isis Randy with don't cut and trim I hope this video is helpful to you
