Add esign Parking Ticket

I spy wall with a c-sharp exercise from the book c-sharp how to program and this is chapter 7 exercise eight parking charges the assignment says that a garage charge is $2.00 a minimum fee to park for up to three hours so if you park three hours I suppose included you would pay six dollars after that you park you pay an additional 50 cents per hour for each hour or part of the hour in excess of three hours in other words if you park let's say four hours then you pay the two times three which is up to three hours makes six dollars and then you pay an additional hour that's two dollars plus fifty cents for that hour alright so the maximum charge for any given 24-hour period is $10 in other words if it's if you park long enough and the exceeds $10 you will only pay $10 even if you park more hours than that now you'll assume that the no park no car parks are longer than 24 hours at a time we will write an app that calculates and displays the parking charges for each customer who park in the garage yesterday you should enter the hours park for each customer the app should display the charge for the current customer and should calculate and display the running total of yesterday's receipts in other words we will have to loop through all the customers we will enter how many customers entered the garage we will loop through them display a charge for each each one of them but we will also do a running total and at the end we will display the total sales or the total charges for all customers and the app should use method calculate charges to determine the charge all right so I started the program so let's do this I will do a class I'm gonna add a class and I will call it I know charges call it customer customers all right and this class will be the one that will do all the calculations in so again we have some values that are given it is not going to change we can declare some constants so for example the minimum charge is $2.00 that we can do we can do a constant constant and it's I'll make it a double since it's like currency minimum charge equals 2 next one the surcharge is $0.50 that's a constant again double or charge and then equals 50 cents next one maximum charge when given 24-hour period is $10 so the max max charge constant and that equals 10 another constant we may need another constant we need is actually the 24 hours which is because we will be checking against that we have to make sure that no the car did not or you know the user did not enter like 25 hours for example so understand max hours and it's a this one's an integer and it is 24 now let me see if there's any other that it looks okay for now all right so we have the class well let's do the the method that they want us to do is calculate charges but before that let's make the constructor for this one so public it's a customer that's the mess and it will accept user will enter how many hours the customer parked so it will accept it with double because you know we can enter three and a half hours for example so double I will do hours okay this is whatever the user enters we have to make sure that is not more than 24 and we can as well make sure that it's not less than I don't know one well at least zero so that you use a different or negative numbers for every can simply do a property properties that we'll call public hours and in view it's going to be a double because again we can have decimal decimal places at some point public hours and the cat will simply return our powers which we will have to declare all right private hours okay so we will return hours over here and we will set the hours we will validate the input so you will simply do if the value the user supplied is less than zero or value is greater than 24 then well then we can throw an exception or we can we can simply inform the user lab you know the value is incorrect otherwise our hours will equal the value everything will be correct so we can assign the value I'm still thinking about throwing an exception here exception tax invalid input all right so we got the hours so over here we have to assign our property I don't know why I did it no capitalized so our hours now equals the hours that you can supply a property hours equals these hours all right so we make sure that the value is correct and you can do the calculation method it's they support wants to call calculate charges so we can do that public thinking is he gonna be 10 anything always gonna be void yeah every 10 public double charges and it will return the charges itself so now we have to do the conditions so the three hours is the minimum see I mean 2002 minimum fee for three hours so yeah we can if the we can do a switch and check our hours okay now we cannot do me an if statement if hours hours is less or equal to 3 then return hours times whatever the charges are two dollars and that's the minimum charge so minimum charge all right so if the user park interest hours less than three or equal to three the result will be ours so let's say that you enter speak so ours would be three that's a property here times minimum charge which is 2 so it will be 6 else if ours is greater than 10 and remember the condition the maximum charge is $10 also it's not the hours it's $10 so it's something we'll have to actually barely so else if hours times okay never mind that's weird this way will simply do else not what it's great an MP you don't have to validate marry it's greater than you know 24 we already doing here when we assigning the value to our property so else are we will calculate you know what here's what I'm gonna do I'm gonna return hours times minimum charge actually not hours but three it's the first three hours all right so three times minimum charge I could have like six I guess yeah let's do that so it's six dollars for the first three hours that's given because two times three plus and for every hour after that that's going to be the surcharge of 50 Cent's so I have to now this is not gonna work either accurate bill what we will do is hours minus 3 let me get rid of these brackets so we do this 6 which is the initial six dollars and then we will calculate hours minus 3 times put in additional brackets here so this will be times the minimum charge plus surcharge because now the charge is 250 so we will do times minimum charge Plus surcharge and this has to be bracket like that okay so this else six is the third charge for the first three hours then if I don't have to type it listen after that will deduct three from all the hours that we must part and those hours so let's say to use the part six hours or seven hours to make it easier so we paid six six dollars then we were seven minus three so we're left with four hours left and those hours we charge to 50 we charge the minimum charge plus surcharge for for each of those hours alright and we return the result of that all right so that's what we are returning from the calculate charge --is so now we need to make sure over here that when the charges are greater than 10 we only charge them and the best way to do it probably would be simply you know what I'm just going to do variable total charge and that's what I will be doing here so our total charge charge rather directly returning the value I will assign it to total charge total charge equals and this way now I can I can verify that the total charge is not greater than 10 so if total charge is greater than 10 then total charge equals 10 else no else if it's greater than ten then it's only ten that's the maximum that we'd let me charge so it instead of you know what here instead of ten I can I should use the constant because if you know if you decide to increase the price I can simply do eleven here and it will automatically be passed on so now we're here to our total charge equal B max charge okay and I over here we will return the charge variable okay so again we calculate make sure that it's not like if it's less than three the hours are less than three we simply charge two dollars an hour which is our minimum charge times the hours otherwise you know organ over here when I say six I could I could and I should probably do minimum charge times 3 because that's the minimum hours and again it's that's because now when I change the minimum charge I don't have to go through our program and look what I use those charges and I can even I can even do this constant integer many more many minimum hours suddenly minimum hours I will just call it basic hours I guess basic hours and in our case it will equal three and now I can replace that right here with the constant basic hours and I don't have to use any magic numbers you know and wonder why do I have three you know so I can have to comment anything because it would be obvious what I am what I am doing and again if I decide to change any of these values I don't have to go through here and mess with the equation at all so how many telling the total charge and now I think that's really all and now we can go to a program and ask for the input so we go first they'll do the integer and I call it number of customers and now we will ask the user to enter and so line please enter number of customers remember over here we try and add the calculate and display parking charges for each customer we will ask the user how many customers there were and now we can loop through that so our number of customers equals converted to integer to integer 32 console that red line alright so whatever user and we ask the user to enter the number of customers and will store the result or the input in our number of customers a variable and now we loop through each customer and display the car to a charges so we'll do for integer I equals I'll start with one zero customers and and over here I will do is less or equal number of number of customers that's how many times with a loop and we are gonna have to increase it with with each iteration so now I will ask the user console.writeline please enter number of hours customer over here I will do a placeholder this will hold the number of customer which would be the I each iteration the I increases and the I will be actually like the ID of the customer in other words the first time this runs it will say please enter a number of customer number of hours customer one part so we have that and a placeholder will be D I all right now we have to create a customer alright so we will simply do our customers customer equals new customers and we will pass the number of hours to the user interest which I have to of course create a variable for so double all just like ours so hours will equal again we have to convert but it's time to double because ours will be double whatever the user entered cancel that read line alright so now we have the steamer recalling the creating the object calling the constructor and we have to pass the number of hours into our constructor so here it is now the customer is being created and now we can simply do call the you know we have access to the calculate charges method which we can output console.writeline and again I the customer one charges are and over here I will do another placeholder and it's going to play so the one I will do it formatted as currency so it will be with two decimal places so first placeholder host I the number of customer and this one will hold the our customer that calculate charges whatever is returned from there all right and semicolon and I think that might be all we need to still calculate the running total but let me just see if this once if you get any errors here read line because I have to pause the screen here alright so let's see if this is going to work it should and you I wouldn't okay so let's enter number of customers I'll only enter three and now you have please enter the number of hours customer one part and I will enter 10 so the customer charges are ten dollars because that is the maximum charge so if I enter ten you know I mean the total charges would be over twenty but the maximum charge is ten so that's all I all I do now three hours that should be six dollars charge which is and the last one I'll enter 7.7 hours I mean four hours which should be six eight fifty because that's the fifty fifty cent surcharge and it is alright so uh that's working now all we need is a sum total which total and over here our total where do I put that over here I can simply total equals total plus equals customer customer dad calculate charges so whatever for each customer each customers charges are added to our total and over here at the end after we finished the loop in we can output the console.writeline total charges for all customers are and again it's going to be placeholder with uh with a currency in it and what am i doing over here I will need to pass the total that's the place I'm getting some kind of error an unsigned variable all right so I will initialize it to zero alright so let's try it again I'll try to do the same numbers remember them so we got three number three customers the first one park ten hours so the charges would be ten ten dollars the maximum second one part three hours at six and the next one part four hours which it was paid fifty so we have ten plus six plus eight fifty and that's twenty four fifty which it is so there you have it very simple straightforward now you could you don't have to create a class you know customers for this particular exercise but I think it's a good practice to do it because you need to practice object-orientation what you could do you could simply take this ladies Messer method the function and place it here right there in the main you don't even have to create any object you can simply call the method in calculations right there but I prefer it this way I think it's cleaner and it's you know it's C sharp so that's object oriented so there you have it forget to create a constant whenever you can instead of using actual numbers in the calculations use the constants or your variables that way if anything changes you can you can simply change the values right here and it will carry out okay through the whole project without the need to change anything anywhere else in the program and over here will simply ask the how many hours how many customers there where that that's how many times the loop we create an object for each customer we will output the charges and we will add those charges to the total which which is our running total and at the end we will display the total and there you have it very simple I hope it helped you and I'll see you next time take care
