today i'm going to show you a handy technique for creating a gold foil effect that looks just like the hot foil stamping printing technique that adds luxurious embellishments to printed products we'll first create a shiny gold texture then apply it to some text with the help of a mask to simulate the appearance of real file stamping we'll finish it off with subtle effects like a paper texture minor edge distortions to create the gold file effect we first need to create a gold texture we can use any image as a source open up a site such as unsplash.com to find a free image to download pick the first random picture you see and open it in photoshop right click on the layer and choose convert to smart object just so any adjustments are made non-destructively this means you can edit the settings or replace the contents of the smart objects with a different image to compare the results go to filter blur and gaussian blur enter a value of around 30 pixels next go to filter and liquify alter the brush size so it covers a large portion of the image then randomly spread the pixels around to create an abstract effect [Music] tidy up the effect by making sure there are no gaps around the edges [Music] add a filter and filter gallery effect next choose glass from the distort category and configure the settings to 15 distortion and two smoothness making sure the frosted texture is selected add a quick sharpen filter to bring out the details of the texture [Music] to make the texture look more like gold foil add a gradient map adjustment layer configure the gradient with three colour swatches the first a dark brown of 2d1 203 one in the middle with a mid yellow of c07e00 then a bright pale yellow of f7e4a3 [Music] you can alter the position of these gradient handles to brighten or darken the overall texture turn off the visibility of the texture and gradient map layers for a moment click the background layer to activate it then select the text tool and write out your chosen word or paste in the artwork you want the gold file applying to bring back the visibility of the layers then hold the alt key and click between the layers in your text or artwork layer to apply a clipping mask next we need a paper texture to use as a background you can find the free image i used from splash.com linked in the description open the file in photoshop go to select and all followed by edit and copy paste the texture into the main working document make sure the layer is placed underneath the text layer drag it into position if necessary use the command and t shortcut or ctrl and t on windows for transform then scale the texture to fill the canvas go to image adjustments and desaturate then image adjustments in brightness...
