Hi, it's Kellene Bishop, the Preparedness Pro, and I just wanted to share a little tip for you to stretch your dollar. This is the closet. This is the closet in which I keep all of my #10 cans of freeze-dried and dehydrated foods. Well, at least a lot of them. The point is, is nothing comes into my home that I don't actually use, know how to use and enjoy using. I don't care how long it's supposed to stay on the shelf. If it's not something my family will eat, I don't purchase it. When you purchase a #10 can of freeze-dried food, typically that #10 can is going to be worth anywhere from 10 to 20 pounds of produce. So dollar for dollar it's actually a really good deal. Plus, you don't have any of the bruising. You don't have to worry about the product molding. It still contains the majority of the same nutrition that you had if you were to purchase it fresh. Plus, in order to freeze dry food, it's picked at it's prime, so you get that maximum flavor. It's very simple to reconstitute. You just need to soak it in equal part of water, for about 10 minutes at the maximum, depending on what kind of product you have. When you have dehydrated foods, you'll need to soak it in a little bit more water and just a little bit longer. I usually go about one and a quarter to one ration. Now one of the things that I do when I'm purchasing these is I actually keep these little cardboard flats. And I do so because they help me be more organized. Plus, they'll usually give me just that much more shelf space because my shelves don't usually come out that far. Still while keeping everything nice and organized. All I have to do, though, is I just pull out the flat. And instead of relabeling the fronts of my cans, all I have to do is label the flat. What I also do is I put a little post-it note on here, as you can see, so that I have a good eye of how many counts that I have. So just by looking at this I know that I've got 8 celery cans. I have 11 onion cans, and I have 4 cheese sauce cans. So it helps me to know how things are organized. Anyway, that's my little tip for you today.
