[Music] okay so today I'm going to show you how to create a handwritten signature that you can use in your emails or blog posts so we're going to go from this to this so first things first what you want to do is take a piece of paper and a black marker a black pen and write your name sign your name and then you can go ahead and scan it into your computer as a JPEG you can also use an app I use turbo scan on my phone and allows me to just take a picture of the paper and it acts as a scan so it kind of just save the step so once you've got the file you now have to open it in Photoshop and then let's get to work so first things first you're going to want to go to image adjustments and black and white and now the goal here is to just get this get all the color out of it so as you can see right now a preview is checked off if I uncheck that you can see that the image kind of goes more yellow and that when I recheck it the image is definitely black and white so that looks good so we'll click OK next we are going to go back to image adjustments and go to brightness and contrast now this is a little bit of trial and error and it depends on the lighting of your like the paper and how it was lit when you maybe took the picture of it and your pen color and everything like that so just take the sliders and you could drag it and drop it or drag it rather around you could see that when I go to the right brightness it gets a little too light and when they go to the left it darkens the background so I'm just gonna leave that a zero cuz it's good as is and then we'll try contrast and you can see that that just kind of darkened it a bit and it just kind of brought out a little more the texture in that so I think that looks good so I'm going to click OK and again these settings are going to vary depending on your individual signature okay now we gonna go back to image adjustments and click on levels and again this is going to be some trial error depending on your individual image so let's just drag the the leftmost little arrow here you can see it kind of gets darker that kind of looks good you could drag the middle you can see dragging this middle gets rid of more that texture so it depends on what you want if you want it to look more like you actually wrote it you know in a marker and have that texture then leave it if not you can kind of just drag it to get rid of it if you wanted to just all look solid so play around with that a bit you can you know bring that in a bit just do what looks good so I think this looks bring that up I don't okay I think that looks pretty good so then I'm going to hit OK and so now our signature is pretty good but it has a white background what you want to get rid of so first things first over here in the layers panel the background is locked so we're gonna click the little padlock to release that background now we're going to click on the magic tool magic wand tool and I have my tolerance here set to 15 depending on how much of a contrast there is between you know the black and the white or whatever may be your signature has a little more gray in there you'll want to adjust the tolerance level but 15 seems to work pretty well so now I'm just going to select the background and then hit delete and you can see that that got rid of the background but of course there's still some white in the letters so then I just zoom in and click each of the white bits in each letter hopefully you have a name that doesn't have that many loops and then once that looks good and zoom back out and as you can see well right now the signature is pretty much ready to go you can use it as a is now but we're gonna just fine-tune it a bit so as you can see um my signature is on an angle and I kind of wanna straighten that out so we're going to go to edit a free transform and then I'm just going to drag the corner so that's a little rotate icon kind of comes up and we're just going to drag that till it looks pretty straight then we're going to apply that okay I think that looks better and now there's a ton of like you know empty free space around it and I want this to be as tight as possible so we'll go to image trim and make sure transparent pixels is selected and all of the sides are good click okay and that just got rid of all the excess nothingness on all sides until then there you go your signature is ready to go you want to go to file export quick export as a PNG you want to definitely use it as a see what as a PNG rather because you want that transparent background that's especially important if you want to apply the signature or the handwriting to an image or having a colored background otherwise it's gonna have just a big white square behind it and I mean if it's on white it's not the other world but it kind of limits your use so let's just test this out I'm going to select all and copy it and I have a little image here that maybe you know maybe you want to place it on the image I want to paste it this is a great way to test it out see how it look and you can see it looks pretty cool you know that's your handwriting right there on that image and depending on you know like I said how you adjusted the brightness and the levels you might have a little more texture there which could look really cool so again save that as PNG and that's it you're ready to go
