hi everyone happy Monday I stayed home from work today because I'm not feeling well I hurt my back so no customers no clients no sales no computer work no house wiping just me and the computer and making a video for you today's video is for all of my independent service based business owners out there so massage therapist hairstylist things like that this is something I cover in my class called building a practice in 30 days and I'm gonna get into some details for you a big thing that I pride myself on in my business is hospitality hospitality is everything and you don't have to get too crazy with details but one of the things I'm crazy on is making things easier for my clients and making things easier for those who purchase anything from me so for instance today's example is gift certificates I have a page on my website that has to do with all of my sales for individual services packages and then gift cards normally in the past what they've done is they would book through my booking system they be able to purchase a gift card and then they'd have a printout and that printout is what they give their loved one I didn't find them to be very pretty I didn't find them to be very dignified they they they didn't work for me I was able to make something much prettier from Microsoft Word or from publisher that you can get for Mac if you're a Mac user which I am um anyway so when I first started my practice I chose to invest a little more in business cards and gift certificates then I did in other parts of my practice and I'm really glad I did that so here's a few different things that I do that kind of sets me above the bar a little bit of what's normal for this area anyway first of all my gift certificates are customized in a way because I have these interesting little gift cards that I can just stick a business card in I didn't have to pay somebody a lot of money to design something custom and then pay a company to print them and then gifted them and then have them be thrown away they're just gonna be thrown away like why would you spend such darn good money on something that's just going to be thrown away so I'm really glad I found this company who sells these this company is called get a tip every time comm and I was able to negotiate like a 10 or 15 percent off when I ordered in bulk and all I did was ask so you know when in doubt ask you know how much how much can I buy you know where I can do get a little bit of savings they also sell these envelopes that say gratuity on them and then they say to and from so client can fill them out those have also made a big difference in my practice as well and that's something we could talk about another time so get a tip every time comm is where you get these from all you do is put your business card in it and fill it out that's it the next thing I do to personalize it a little better is I have a little insert and I have a hard copy of this in a file in my office so that I can just photocopy it and then cut them and I also have a copy of this on my computers to save whenever to print out if I ever want to put it from the computer so this is what it looks like it's simple I don't know if you could see that because my camera might be in a funky way but it just says you are loved and appreciated to redeem your gift card to blah blah you can call whoo-hoo-hoo at blah blah blah blah or book online at blah blah blah blah blah calm I know I'm just being silly please bear with me you can let me know by phone or in the notes portion of online booking that you have a gift certificate or you can bring it with you to show me in person forgot it that's okay I can look it up by who gifted it to you looking forward to serving you and then my signature so you can do whatever you want that you feel is right to you but I feel that hospitality and making things stupid proof is always a good thing stupid proof is a word or term that I came up with it doesn't mean that I expect people to be dumb or silly it just means that you don't want to stress out your clients by them not having information if you are one step ahead of your clientele with giving them information by all kinds of means you're better off and we could talk about that another time Wow so first thing I do is I personalize by just inserting a business card instead of having a custom design secondly I do an insert thirdly I add a little sticker so for the holidays coming up I'll probably add these little snowflakes why because I want to be culturally neutral because there's so many different holidays during that time so not just Christmas you have Hanukkah you have Kwanzaa you know there's other things as well anyway so add little stickers make it a little personal it doesn't have to scream holidays but just kind of suggest it so third link stickers another note on stickers you can put them on the envelope you can put them on the envelope too if you want unless you want it to be surprised and keep it on the inside so I usually put one on a seal like I did a bunch of birthday ones today do not and I repeat do not get these stickers I don't know why I died I wasn't using my head but I'll use them for something else I got these they're adorable it'll cut birthday cupcakes but they're super thick you can see that they're not gonna go very well on the postage so out they go the last thing I do oh one more note you can do stamps I love stamping I love stamping and embossing and putting glitter on everything so anyway that's just another tip but stickers always do really well um the last thing I do is I pay for postage there we go I pay for the postage I mail it out and sometimes I'll make sure I pick out a book of stamps that's good for the season or it's just something really neutral something that looks nice I'm all about presentation so keeping track of your gift certificates just get a list make a list write a number on the back of the gift cards write that number in the but in the binder and put in the two and put in the from and how much they paid for it figure out what your policies are are your policies no refunds that's my policy if there's no refunds on it but they don't expire because in the state of California gift certificates on a service based business based on time I think that's how it works you it's illegal to deny refunds know it I'm sorry it's illegal to say that there's an expiration that's what I meant to say I apologize so anyway as far as that's concerned I always write a draw a little line in the it says expires I just kind of draw a little line through it and then where it says in the amount of I usually draw a little line through that because sometimes customers don't want to know I'm sorry customers don't want the recipients to know what they spent on their gift so I mean I grew up you know taking the test that price tags off everything I don't know if everyone else did that but that's what we did so anyway those are a few things that you can do to personalize your gift cards and the reason why I've taken the initiative to have this particular of a protocol is because I have seen firsthand by accident that even though my rates are significantly higher than most people in my area my rates are at least 100 an hour based on the service most people around here or anywhere between 65 maybe 85 dollars an hour there's a few providers that I know who are also a hundred an hour but even though I'm a higher rate and these customers who are from out of town or out of state don't know what I'm about or they don't know much about my practice or they don't know much about my reputation the fact that I have a mailing service with my gift certificates and I create this presentation if you will sets me apart enough that they're willing to pay me that extra amount that they weren't thinking of spending before they don't even think about it twice so anyway um I hope that helps and if you have any questions or advice let me know and also a note on receiving payment I receive payment on square you can send invoices on square but most customers are still more familiar with sending invoices or sending payment through PayPal you can say on your website to receipt to purchase a gift certificate please call me or email me and give me this information and then from there you can pick up where they left
