Set initials notice
hello in this video I'd like to demonstrate how we can initialize inside a fluent different values in different parts of our mesh so normally when we initialize using just the standard initialization someone will populate a constant value everywhere in the domain you can write user-defined functions to do something more complex to but it through the GUI pretty much we're limited to doing a constant value through the standard initialization we can do what's called patching and patching allows us to patch certain areas with different values from those of the standard initialization so the easiest way to patch things is to have predefined zones so for example in this case I have created a bottom zone and a top zone it's better it's more easily shown just with highlighting so you can see bottom and top so I've done this inside of the meshing application so if I jump over here you'll notice that named selections for the volumes bottom and top so in this case the reason I was able to do this is because I actually have these as separate bodies it's a multi body part which shares a mesh of the interface so the fluid still sees it as one continuous mesh but it gives us an opportunity to have two separate named selections on the two different bodies so now jumping back into fluent if we just go to initialize and just do the standard initialization and then we go on plot let's set our volume fraction everywhere okay if we just plot our volume fraction you will see that everywhere is zero exactly as we said but in a lot of cases specially let's say in this case let's say it's a free surface flow where we want you know a liquid metal to be one in the top and zero on the bottom do we do that again using the patch tool so we if we go to patch you'll notice that we have zones we can patch okay so in this case if you recall I have the two zones bottom top I'm just going to select pop I'm going to select liquid metal volume fraction and I'm going to hit specify value 1 and hit by patch and you'll notice if I go back to my plot now we have value of 1 in the top domain so this is a good start this is a initialization that we could actually work with for a lot of problem types but what if we wanted to do this but we wanted to split it along this direction rather than the direction we had predefined with their bodies which we can still do that to do that we use a functionality influent called marking cells for adoption ok for for adoption when we when we when we mark self this this tool is essentially default a design for marking where you want to create refinement so phloem can refine themselves for...
