Claire it truly is my honor and privilege to introduce each of these 17 student athletes today you cap off your high school career by signing your national letter of intent as students here you left your mark not only on our athletic program but modern-day itself the road to today was not easy right long nights early mornings missing out on different things you and your family had to make sacrifices to make your dreams a reality and along the way you had coaches mentors friends and family that push you held you accountable and supported you along the journey so today would not have been possible without each of them so make sure to take the time to thank them it could be as simple as a handshake as public as a tweet or as personal as a handwritten note whichever way you choose is up to you but make sure you take the time to acknowledge them all right we're ready to get this thing started I think there's really only one way I know ladies and gentlemen let's get ready to introduce these athletes first up we have coach Richard Mercado to introduce Grady Birmingham playing baseball to the University of Dallas and Garrett Riley playing baseball at Grambling State University all right coach hit it out of the park my name is Richard Ricardo and I have the privilege of coaching the modern day varsity baseball team I would like to begin by congratulating all the athletes that are signing today your tremendous efforts have set you all up for success in college and beyond it read Birmingham congratulations on signing with the University of Dallas greatest path successes have been all about hard work ready is one of the hardest working and most resilient kids I've ever coached he is constantly making the effort EAX reps in do extra lift sessions and go the extra mile to become a college level baseball player Grady possesses the physical skills to be an impact player at the University of Dallas he was about as consistent as they come on defense but he also has the athleticism and aggressiveness to make a highlight reel type plays Grady's a physical specimen at the plate when he connects with a baseball his powers tremendous his office and potential is off the charts the only thing that can top Grady's work ethic is a caliber of person he is Grady's always the first person to offer a helping hand in ball here for literally anything from baseball camps information ayats to even work in the snack shack grades always willing to help he embodies what it means to be a servant leader ready you are the epitome of a hard worker a great team a an even better human being you are the epitome of a monarch Grady thank you for all the blood sweat and tears you've shed for the modern day baseball program this place is better because of you we wish you nothing but the best look forward to fall your continued success at the University of Dallas on behalf of the modern day baseball program I want to say we are proud of you and congratulations I would like to congratulate Garrett Riley out sign his letter intent to Grambling State University it's very easy to talk about Garrett as a baseball player because of his electric arm but Garrett was a leader who took great pride in doing things the right way on the mound he was very good this year in our shortened season he had a 0.88 er a and struck out 13 batters in only eight innings the scary thing about him is potential I truly believe his best innings are ahead of him at Grambling stick the team's in the South Western Athletic Conference better be ready because Garrett is a special talent and confident will make a big name for himself next year in my opinion Garrett is a born leader even as a junior Garrett took on that role and it seemed natural to him last year the varsity baseball team participated in seal fit a group of Navy SEALs per our group through an overnight gut checking leadership developing physical and mental grind the boys were woken up at 3 a.m. loaded on a bus and marched into the ice cold water in early January when the air temperature was in the 30s it did not look fun the boys continued throughout the day with drills and exercises that the Navy SEALs go through during their basic training it was not an easy task through all this Garrett stood I was one of the most impressive athletes out there not because of his ability to complete the task but because of his leadership Garrett was commanding pushing his teammates pulling for the guys around him taking charge and at one point physically carrying one of his teammates to make sure the team finished that run down the beach that's what I knew how special of a young man Garrett was he was and is a true leader who's destined for success throughout his life Garrett has been an absolute honor and a pleasure to have coached you were the kind of leader that is impossible to replace but all should strive to be like I could not be more proud of you as an athlete and as a young man we all look forward to following your success at Grambling on behalf of the Marte baseball program I want to say congratulations thanks coach now we have coach Katie Bowers to introduce her to cheerleaders Maya Alvez will cheer at the University of Colorado Boulder and Jacob brand will be on the cheer team at the University of Southern Florida Maya for the past few years afraid of one thing and that is how you want to attend the University of Colorado is with great pride an accomplishment that you have achieved your goal there's nothing that I can say that makes me more proud than to be able to watch you achieve the goal that you said so long ago although I've only coach to for two years Maya it has been with great pleasure to watch you succeed not only as an athlete but as a leader on and off the mat you lead by example daily by improving their skills not only on the backs but as a leader to your teammates and captain I wish I could say I have the opportunity to coach you all for years but has been my greatest pleasure to watch you your junior and senior year I hope you know that the experiences that you're going to make a Colorado will be one that we'll never forget the teammates the coaches and friends will always be remembered please know Maya you will always be a monarch and you will always have a place here at modern-day Jacob well you did it you're survived four years here at modern day I wish I could say I was able to coach you from freshman to senior year however the last two years have been nothing but an honor and pleasure being able to watch you grow from junior and senior year Jacob you have been nothing but an amazing role model and leader to these young athletes thank you for being the first one out practice every day setting up the max rolling up the equipment getting ready getting your team mentally and physically ready for whatever I was going to throw out you Jacob I am so glad that you are continuing your cheer career at the University of Southern Florida please know we are going to be rooting for you whether it's on the sidelines or the competition for Jacob you have so many abilities you're a great leader and more than that you're great to me now I for one know that it was not easy being the only male on a team of 20 you rose to the occasion you didn't let it get to you and you became somebody that I could truly rely on every day Jacob please now going across the country is something that is extremely scary and I hope you know that we will be supporting you every mile and every distance that you travel Jacob thank you for trusting me in your senior year and I know these aren't the situations and circumstances that you thought your senior year would be but remember it is not what is thrown at you defines you it is how you react to it Thank You coach Bowers up next is head football coach Bruce Rawlinson to talk about race malim who's headed to the University of Oregon Cruz Rubio who's going where might one of my boys went Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Nate white who's going to the University of Pennsylvania and Benjamin Sullivan who's going to the University of Laverne take it away coach good morning everybody hey what a great day first of all I want to congratulate all the athletes that are signing today dreams do come true you parents I've always believed the best investment that you can make is investing in your child today your investment pays off all those long hours and practices and youth sports pays off today and I congratulate you to my athletes this was a great senior class it was a great group of men who I already miss I am so very proud of the leadership of this class and you three men were a major part of that leadership today is a great day for you and just remember one thing for your old coach thank everybody from your parents counselors teachers and most importantly get to your position coach and thank you now I'd like to move to our introductions race very very proud of you I'll tell you what you did it the tough way coming in at the semester with your junior year or second semester and entering into a competition people don't realize how hard it is sure you have tremendous talent and and we were blessed to have you but to indoctrinate yourself into the modern day way into the crazy world of coach Rawlinson and modern day football you handled it in an unbelievably professional fashion and I love the way you competed every big game when we needed to kick including the championship game okay that punt when you bailed us out deep in our own endzone was just typical of how good you are and how great you are going to become I love the way you became a leader I love the way the rest of the senior class gravitated towards you and I congratulate you on a tremendous career short but who cares it was a great senior year and I'm sure glad those coaches cut you loose and you became a true monarch son Oregon better watch out because here comes race and I'll tell you what I guarantee you're gonna have a lot of play time on Saturdays in a great Stadium and a lot of great stadiums across this nation best of luck to you brother boom it away and have fun Cruz Rubio Cruz man I'm so proud of you buddy I can't believe it you know you invested a tremendous amount of time and effort to perfect your art long snapping is difficult you waited your turn and what a great senior year you had for those of you listening I'm telling you this kid was perfect both in short snaps which means p80 and field gold and long snapping which is the punting he was just spectacular crews man you know how much I care for you what a great parents and parental support you got give them an extra hug for me and I'm telling you what Cruz watch out because I know you're gonna have tremendous success as soon as you get to San Luis Obispo you will compete and I won't be surprised if I'm watching you on Saturdays this fall congratulations buddy I love you Dan Sullivan the University of Laverne Ben I'm so proud of you and I congratulate you I know it was a tough decision you went back and forth between choices but I think you've made a great choice and again I congratulate you take the same work ethic the same passion the same dedication that you had as a monarch to Laverne and you will be very successful this is a big step you know that training right now the grind has to start I know you have been training but now you've got to take it to a collegiate level you must be prepared with the situation that we're in presently a lot of this responsibility falls on you but the positive is you're playing college football and for that I am so excited for you again you are a great monarch and we are very very proud of what you've accomplished take that everything that we've taught you from technique to work ethic to Laverne and you will have success congratulations go monarchs go Ben Sullivan Laverne University's got a great one play on Saturdays brother and good luck Big Nate I'll tell you what man I'm gonna miss you you know how much I care for you we're gonna miss your leadership we're gonna miss how you competed every day we're gonna miss your work ethic you epitomize a modern-day football player but you took it to the next level not only did you compete on the field but you competed in the classroom multiple multiple semesters I know you've always been above a 4.0 and that is a tribute to you leadership unbelievable the kids listen to you because you outworked everybody on the football field yet you were kind you were compassionate to the other players especially my younger players how I and when I watched you nurture them I was so impressed with that and you're one heck of a football player adversity meant nothing to you had a great sophomore year and then junior year is cut short by a shoulder injury how you attacked rehabilitation is typical of your character how you attacked competition because you got into the mix late and the next thing you know weak Nate's flying around making plays having fun with a big smile on his face okay the Wharton School of Business now okay you're gonna be a millionaire brother I always predicted that and you're also gonna be a heck of a football player okay Penn is really really getting a great football player coach Rollins is a little sad doing this message because again I love you brother thank you for everything you did for the program and we will miss you but good luck man fly around do it in the classroom just like you did do it on the field you again wear those stripes on your heart brother and I'll miss you Thank You coach Rawlinson our next coach is coach Chloe silence coach silence we'll be speaking about Liliana Rigdon who will be playing lacrosse at Corbin University first let me start by congratulating all of these senior athletes who are signing today and making the commitment to play at the next level I know we're not on the most ideal of circumstances right now but each of you have not let that in your way and that is why we are here today Lilliana it has been an honor and a privilege to get to know you and coach you over the past two years you are the definition of an athlete who continues to put in the work day in and day out because of her love for the game you never hesitate when it comes to running wall ball extra workouts photo circle workouts or team meetings you constantly want to improve and want feedback on how you were doing this makes it coach's job extremely easy and makes you extremely coachable we know this will take you very far in your collegiate career you are also a servant leader you'll lead by example without expectation of recognition and are always ready to put your teammates first I know that your senior season did not end the way we all had hoped but I know that you will let this fuel you to have a great first season at Corbin University Lilliana all the coaches are so excited for you and we know you were going to do great things so to end I'm going to leave you with this quote obstacles don't have to stop you if you run into a wall don't turn around and give up figure out how to climb it go through it or work around it Michael Jordan we're so proud of you Liliana and cannot wait to see what your future holds congratulations thanks coach now we have Eric Hanks ledin to speak about Peter Adams who will be rolling at Boston University hi my name is Eric Hank Slaton I'm the men's varsity assistant rowing coach for the Newport Aquatic Center here to talk about Peter Adams and Peter is moving on to Boston University amazing campus amazing city amazing people really really great town really great rowing experience that you're gonna have there it's the mecca of rowing you know in North America that's a spot to be so I'm really excited to see you go there and experience that and I know that you as an individual are prepared and that's fantastic because now you're going to be able to take all the tools that you've developed here I'm gonna be able to see you in the hub doing what you do best so I'm excited for you and I really appreciate all our time together I know this season did not pan out the way you me anybody would want it but you know that's part of life sometimes you don't get what you want and you know quote from a coach of mine who I dearly love said experience is often what you get when you don't get what you want so I think you me everybody we're getting a lot of experience in this day and age I'm gonna miss you buddy I know we we had a lot of good times together and we got to go to the national championship together last year and at the very minimum you know I look back on it now and I and I'm thankful that we got to do that at the minimum we wanted to do it again this year but you know again sometimes it doesn't pan out that way I really hope that you enjoy you know the time you still have here in sending Newport Beach before you go back east to Boston and good luck to you but take care up next modern-day sailing coach Aubrey Mayer to talk about Gretchen Hohenstein who'll be sailing at the University of Hawaii at Manoa hi my name is Aubrey Mayer and I'm the head coach of the modern a high school sailing team and I'm here today to say a few words about Gretchen Hansen who will be going to the University of Hawaii next year and sailing Gretchen has been an integral part of the modern-day high school sailing team for all four years of her high school career she was an impact player on this year's team which had its best season in the school's history finishing third and PC is a and second at the keelboat nationals she is extremely passionate about the sport having sailed from a young age at the Balboa Island Yacht Club and the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club she always gets to practice on time with a smile on her face ready to roll up her sleeves and go to work she asked me relevant questions and attempts to apply the information immediately she's also able to maintain a constructive line of communication with both me and her skipper she has a level head and understands how to be objective about her performance Gretchen wants to sell well enough to win at every competition but she's also able to learn from her lessons keep her head held high and move on to the next moment she's a great teammate always uplifting her mates and going the extra mile to help them out she's a hard worker and the University of Hawaii is lucky to have her now we have head boys soccer coach Sean Gainey to speak about Liam Glennon who's playing at Cabrini University and Ricky Quezada who's playing at Waldorf University Liam Glennon Liam embodies what it is to be a monarch he's hardworking he's always willing to help he's always wearing smile he's talented and he's a servant leader we have spent four years in the boys soccer program Liam Lawson was fortunate enough to have his dad be a part of the soccer program as a coach Liam was also fortunate enough to have his younger brother Declan be a part of the last three years of his soccer journey even playing together last year Liam also is a older brother to four younger siblings this is where he learned to be a servant leader William was baptised into being a leader by driving his siblings around having them follow him around his entire life and this made an anonymous choice for us as coaches to be the captain of our program we watched as he had an ability to hold people accountable without alienating them in the process an ability to listen to some of the younger kids and watch and help anybody that needed it Liam never took a practice off Liam never took a game off or even a team dinner off he was always there for his teammates he was always there to help further our culture of brotherhood with older kids with younger kids whoever it was in our program I knew I could trust him this year with anything that I tasked him - Liam you're undoubtedly going to crush it next year at Cabrini University and we're grateful to have been a part of your journey thanks and good luck Vicki Quesada Rickey came to us in the middle of his junior year last year and I didn't know what to expect but he over delivered in terms of his character and ability ricky is smooth and everything that he does he has an ability to make the difficult look easy on the soccer field Rickey also has the biggest heart as he was always there with the right words or actions to his power his teammates to be the best they could possibly be this undoubtedly enabled Rickey to also become close with our team in a short amount of time as I saw a lot of guys grateful for him I can't imagine what this was like leaving your foundation midway through your high school journey but I do know Ricky I would want myself or my son or my daughters to have that same path Rickey you were always the first to celebrate with your teammates you were one of the first to help a teammate in need and everyone enjoyed your ability on the soccer field we were grateful you chose us to be a part of your family and we look forward to you doing the same at Waldorf University Rickey thank you for your time and our Brotherhood and we look forward to having you back Thanks now we have modern-day tennis coach Agnes Segundo just because Henry Tran will be playing tennis at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth hi I'm Agnes Sugino the JV coach at Mater Dei high school this video is about Henry Tran who played varsity boys tennis it was such a pleasure getting to know him this year I found him to be personable hard-working polite and respectful to his coaches and as an athlete he was a team player versatile and was always willing to do what the coach requires of him he was also easy to get along with his teammates and very encouraging to them I know he will be successful in whatever he does good luck we now have head cross-country and track coach Rick Martinez to speak on behalf of Nadia Martinez who will be running at Cal Baptist University Nadia congratulations on choosing Cal Baptist you have come a long way in the past four years from a promising lower-level runner to contributing varsity rudder your path is one that I wish upon all my rudders and track athletes thank you for bringing your cheerful enthusiasm to practice every single day you have left a legacy that will not be soon forgotten we wish you the best and congratulations again track coach Sam Collins to speak on behalf of Morgan Jennings who will be running at the University of California Irvine - my dear Morgan and to the Jennings family thank you for this privilege it is my honor to speak on your behalf for your signing as a Division one student athlete at the University of California Irvine you've been part of this track team for four years and have dedicated yourself and in fact we're part of the CIF championship team as a sophomore but it was your junior year that you decided that you believed you wanted to run in college and ask me what would it take while I explained at the time that only one point nine percent of student athletes in high school go on to Division one college you still said I want to make it my way well I said of course if it were easy everyone would do it it takes not only being a good athlete but a good student of course your dedication this summer and it in the weight room had made all the difference for you in fact you were honored with being a team captain this year due to your kindness and your leadership this year though cut short you ran three track meets with each one being the fastest you've ever run in your final meet which we didn't know at the time you decided you were gonna go out hard in the first 200 and not wait to kick in and not be afraid of lactic acid and that meet set another personal record lo and behold who was at that track me but the University of california-irvine track coaches who recognize your talent then recruited and got you into school I could not be happier for you Morgan congratulations to you your dedication is paying the dividends I wish you well and I want you to continue to walk in faith in love and we honor you today and in the future always your friend and always in love coach Collins congratulations next is monitored a volleyball coach Pat Connelly to speak on behalf of Sebastian Lara who will play playing volleyball at Loyola University of Chicago with former modern-day standout and center there Jarrod's Oleg congratulations the Sebastian Loren
