I'd like to add a license to my repository now on github if when you create a new repository in this interface here you can see there's actually a button right here to create to add a license automatically so you can choose one of the licenses that from the list if you like but I've already got my repository created over here so I want to go and add a license to it and I'm decided that I'm going to add the MIT license so what I need to do is I need to get that the license text one place to get it here is the choose a license website so I'm going to use MIT I'll just click on that so here's the actual license text so I'm going to click the button to copy it and then I'm going to go into my repository and I'm going to make a new file just called license no extension and all uppercase like that I'm going to paste it in here and so here's my license now you can see I have to fill a couple things in here the year and my name so I'll put 2015 Thomas J Bradley so there I've got the license now in my code so it's technically licensed but it's probably a good idea to put that information here in my readme also so I'll just write licensed under the MIT license now I probably should link to them the license also from my readme so I'll turn this into a link like this all right so I've got that now in my readme and I have the license file here so let's just do a commit all right and we'll go back to our browser and refresh and you can see now the license is here in the repository and I click on the link here and it should take me to the actual license where I can read it so when you're making a new project on github if you use the plus button up here you can choose to add a license right away or you can add it after like I did by copying and pasting the text and putting it into your repository
