Add Manufacturing Contract initial

[Music] hello everyone and welcome to straight to licensing with amy-jo I'm in veterinary coach amy-jo Brogan and today I'd like to answer a question that someone wrote in on one of my recent videos Carrie actually wrote it and I he or she says thanks for the videos I appreciate you all of your advice here's my question how do you call consider a deal with a call considered deal with a store brand as in the bandages example are our local grocery store chain has generic / store brand of bandages when I've tried calling the the store headquarters they don't really know how to handle my offer to submit product ideas so I need to become a supplier first what is your advice here so when you're trying to find I mean this is a really great question Carrie because when you're trying to find essentially white labeling manufacturers is what you're looking for there so for the the bandages example you know that that falls in line with a lot of different categories you know like Office Depot with the you know with the paper that they sell so they have like their own notebooks they have their own computer paper with with their white label brand on it the same thing you know with tissues Walmart I believe has their own brand 4i Kleenex tissue so so it's like not Kleenex cuz Kleenex is a brand but for tissues to use right um toilet paper different things like that so when you contact a company trying to find these white label types of manufacturers can be a little bit more challenging because they're not they don't really have a great online presence most of the time and and obviously their name isn't on the packaging right so you have to do a little bit more digging but you can look at you mean you can search online and type in keywords like tissue paper white label tissue paper manufacturers in the US or you know different things like that and try to search and see who pops up that way and you can contact those companies you know and ask the if they accept outside submissions for new product ideas and then also when your if you want to try to go the store route so if you go to your local grocery store you go to you know even you know Office Depot for example or Walmart's like the big chain stores you want to call their headquarters and see if you can get in touch with their buyer or the purchaser sometimes you could probably talk to the marketing department but usually the buyers are the ones that are going to know this information whether they're they're gonna be willing to give you the information or not I know no because it really depends on the way that the company operates most of the time they they seem to be a little bit private when it comes to releasing the information of the manufacturers that they use so but in order to manage that conversation you know when you call them you just simply say I'm a product developer I have a new idea that I think would be a great fit for the product line that your store is currently selling under this space could you provide the information as to the manufacturer or the company that you work with for your for your white labeling brand that you use for your store and that's how you go about doing that when you contact a company when you contact a retailer and ask them if they're open to outside innovation you're most likely going to get that confusion there because retailers don't license products right they buy them so you want to try to find the people the companies that they actually purchase the products from and that's how those are they're going to be your potential licensees then you contact them and ask them if they're willing to take a look at your idea and you know try to again don't focus on just one one manufacturer that does white labeling but to be honest with you what we've seen is that when you do when you are able to access these manufacturers who do white labeling oftentimes they the retailers that are in that space that offer that type of category of products well they have that manufacturers have deals you know they have relationships with more than one retail chain right so for instance you know Office Depot for example with their rolls of their white label rolls of computer paper could be they could order that from the same company that staples does right so if you're able to work out a deal with a white labeled manufacturer that could potentially brought in your market for your distribution right so if all these brands really like the new version or not brands but the retail store brands the white labeled brands if they really like the product that you have to offer then you could potentially have distribution and more than just one one chain of retail stores which is a nice benefit however you have to do the extra legwork in order to try to find these companies and see if they're willing to to take a look at your idea and if they're open to licensing so I hope this information is helpful to you if you have any other questions please let me know put them in the comment section below also don't forget to watch stephen key and your Krauss and David Vela I look forward to hearing from you guys [Music] you you
