hi there this is the third in a series of short videos take a look at how to structure responses to these 25 mark essays on a QA business paper 1 now we've been looking in the first two videos at this question to what extent do you think that developments in technology are making it easier for a business to enter an international market justify your answer for the 25 marks obviously you need to respond directly to the question build your analysis in context and then of course conclude demonstrate show your evaluation and so as we look at a 25 mark essay the key as we sing in the grade booster workshops is to spot and respond to the evaluation hook or hooks that could be more than one in the essay title in this case the key word there is easier in previous video first of the three we developed an essay plan now we'll see that's more detailed than you would use in the exam itself but it's a great technique to get used to as you start to get scripts with these 25 mark essays actually writing down and maybe slightly more detailed plan and included in that we outlined what we thought the conclusion would be and that's where we get most of our marks for evaluation obviously we do evaluation throughout with our slice of pie in each pecan pie paragraph but most of the conclusion most of the opinion comes in a structured conclusion using the agent method it's a method that the great booster students will be familiar with don't forget 25 mark essay is a five level response in terms of the mark scheme and we're looking to get to the top level ideally for all four skills but tip but particularly three evaluation which is the highest weighted skill of the four in the twenty five mark essays we're looking for a balanced judgment built on effective analysis but also reflecting a focus on the question two L's by focusing on the question in the two paragraphs we started to get there and by including a slice of pie pointing to the evaluation we've started to build the quality of our evaluation but it's only when we get to the conclusion that we get a chance to provide that balanced judgment now that plan that we outlined for the conclusion we use the agent method for every question that involves evaluation and so let's have a look at an example of how this conclusion might have been written now I'm just going to take you through the four elements of the agent methods and show you an example it's not meant to be a perfect conclusion but I certainly think it hits the mark in terms of what the examiner is looking for so let's read through it and see how the four parts of the agent method are delivered don't forget the most important part of a conclusion is to answer the question using the evaluation hook in your response so in my opinion and of course you may disagree with this which is fine does it really matter what the answer is as long as you justifies in my opinion technological developments are making it significantly easier for businesses to enter international markets so if expressing opinion Express the judgments and we've used the evaluation hook right at the start of the conclusion all we now need to do is to just justify that a little bit further and I've color-coded this so the justification element is in blue let's have a look this is particularly true in industries in the service sector where innovation in the delivery of digital services often through smart devices like phones has created opportunities for new products to be sold around the world often without the need to change the product to meet market needs so it's all about entering international markets using technology as a consequence established business models and domestic firms in international markets have found that their competitive advantages are weakened and barriers to entry opposed to entering the market of falun so we're building on our previous analysis that we've built in one of the previous points to help add some credibility to justify our conclusion now the third part of a gem of course is to show some balance and say what's not always the case so just to temper just show some some some uncertainty perhaps in terms of your judgments so here we've had a go at saying of course entering any international market is never easy a surge of testing that easy evaluation hoc it's never easy and it will almost always involve a greater degree of risk for a firm compared with focusing on existing markets there's no guarantee of success well it's an easy evaluation phrase it's a powerful one but why well no guarantee of success even if a firm believed that technological change will allow it to succeed particularly if the domestic competition it faces is also alert to the same developments in technology and is trying to exploit them too so it's quite a subtle evaluation point to say look you know if you find that your competitors in the new international market are doing exactly the same thing then actually the developments in technology it may not be a help to your talk may not make it easier and then finally you finish off just by reflecting back on the question again and just another supportive sentence that underpins your overall conclusion so this one's quite a nice one it says however in general the fast pace of change in digital technology is making it increasingly easy for both small and large firms because the question didn't define what type of business we're looking at for both small and large firms across geographical boundaries as the way that consumers and businesses around the world buy products becomes more connected and digitized so a nice way of just linking back the conclusion to the question about whether developed in technology and making it easy or easier to to enter new international markets that's an example then of the ageing conclusion which supports and is built on the two previous paragraph points that we that we wrote in the second video and I think answers the question and therefore I think it's a good response that would be well rewarded by the examiner so I hope you found that useful that's just an overview then of
