Add motley EIN

[Music] hello and welcome my name is Brian otherwise known as the motley mix merchant here on YouTube and on eBay and Facebook and Instagram and so on and so on if you are a newcomer to this whole reseller world well this is the video for you I'm going to give you not even close to what you need to know about becoming a member of a Facebook group related to reselling what you need to look out for and the things that you could expect when you do join a group and this is just gonna be a primer something for you to tune into and watch just to know what you're getting into before you join one of these Facebook groups I'm going to go through a little bit of background about the Facebook groups for resellers we're going to talk about some terms that you need to know before you get too heavily involved so that you're not completely lost and then we're gonna finish it off with the top 5 questions that are asked all the time on the Facebook groups I'm going to answer them for you right here so you don't have to ask them yourselves so let's get started Facebook groups are great especially when it comes to this world of reselling and thrifting there are dozens and I do mean dozens of Facebook groups that deal with reselling they sometimes deal with product identification or item identification or sometimes they deal with the nuts and bolts of actually selling on one of the platforms whether it's eBay or Amazon or Poshmark or Macari or whatever then there are also some groups that deal with both there is a mix of product identification and item identification and technical knowledge on how to actually sell on the platforms whatever you are looking for there is a group for it I personally belong to a total of five groups and it's a combination of identification groups and technical groups so I get a little bit of both worlds now what you want to look for when you're looking for a Facebook group if you're just getting into this look for groups that are active when you do a search on the Facebook search bar and just put in reseller groups it will show you the groups that there are and it'll show you the number of members and it will show you the number of posts in past seven days or in the past day if there's a lot of posts look for the active groups because that means there's a lot of people involved in it and they're giving answers because you want to find a group that's going to give you an answer to your question when you ask it and it's not going to sit there in limbo unanswered for a week at a time especially if you're on a little bit of a deadline trying to get an answer for a question that you have so look for groups that I would say at least 5,000 members that's probably a good number to start at if the group has at least 5,000 members and has probably anywhere from fifty to a hundred posts a day then it's a definitely an active active group and there's a bunch of them out there I mean there are tens of thousands of people that are involved in is thrifting and reselling world and there are in all kinds of Facebook groups and so you're not gonna have a very hard time trying to find the right group to join when you do find a group that you want to join there are a couple things you should do the first thing you should do and every administrator tells you to do this is read the rules the rules are there to protect you and to protect the other members they tell you exactly what you can and can't post what kind of questions you can and can't ask and it's it's something you really really need to pay attention to the easiest way to get yourself thrown out of a group is to post something on the group that it expressly says in the rules is not allowed something else you should look for when you're first starting out especially is the search feature inside the group because you can do a search say you're inside one of the Facebook groups and you do a search for Royal Albert teacups it will show you every single post and every single answer that it can find in the group alone that has the words Royal Albert teacups in it so you may be able to find an answer to your question right in the search feature as opposed to going into the group and asking a question that's already been asked a number of times before so pay attention to the rules use the search bar before you decide to weigh in and ask a question or whatever but don't be afraid to ask a question even as a newcomer first of all they're probably going to encourage you to introduce yourself maybe say a little blurb about why you joined or what you're looking to do if you're just collecting thrifting for fun or if you're close being looking to do resale or just starting out so make sure you induce yourself to the group that may ask you to look for a file that tells people where you're from so there could be other people in the group from your area that you may be able to connect with whether it's virtually or actually in person that may be a possibility too so pay attention to what the group wants you to do as far as introductions and that kind of thing and have some fun with it say hello and get ready to get your feet wet when it comes to taking part in a facebook resellers group once you start lurking in the groups and watching all the different questions and the answers that are going through there's some terminology that you need to know there's a lot of terms in this business that absolutely make no sense to anybody outside of this industry so here's a really brief rundown of a few and what I'd like to do is have anybody who is watching add more down below in the comments if you have a term that people really need to know when it comes to reselling and thrifting and I don't mention it here in the next few minutes put it down in the comments below so that anybody watching can pick up on even more of the terminology that they need first off it's a term called bolo bol bolo that stands for be on the lookout that is usually an item or a type of item that somebody has found success with when it comes to reselling it may be something that is hard to find or something that nobody really knew is worth any money I've had a few examples of that already in the past year since I've been doing this and didn't know it was worth money but once somebody gave a bolo shout out about it I definitely was able to pick up a few and make a pretty good return on a few of the items so bolo is be on the lookout sort of along the same lines of bolo is formal fom oh this deals with a lot of things in real life but it also deals in this industry with fear of missing out that's what foremost stands for and it's one of the reasons that many of us go to the thrift stores when they're open every single day because the fear is that the one day you don't go to the thrift store is the day that they're going to put out an item that you could buy for two dollars in resale for $200 so FOMO the fear of singing out is real especially if you really get into this industry at all and it is a term that you're going to get used to if you see it on the Facebook group posts for sure up next is the difference between vintage and antique there's a lot of debate in the reselling world about what exactly is vintage it's supposed to be 25 years in the real world something can be called vintage if it's 25 years old but in the online world such as eBay and so on and in thrifting circles a vintage item is something that is over 20 years old so right now we're going back to the year 2000 as something was made before the year 2000 it is considered vintage antiques have to be at least 100 years old so 1920 now or earlier to be called antique it cannot be antique if it's only 60 years old it is vintage some of us may feel like antiques but were only vintage right now anyhow this next term is almost a swear word when it comes to the reselling a thrifty community the term is I mad I n ad this is a short form for the number one reason that a buyer will send you back your item for a refund on eBay item not as described as I say it's almost a curse word in this industry it is a catch-all term the buyers use all the time just to ship back their stuff that they don't want anymore and it's talked about a lot on the Facebook groups and it's talked about reasons to get around it even though there are no way no ways really to get around it if somebody says the item was ein ad you're stuck you gonna give them a refund whether you offer refunds or not and that's something you need to look into as well that's a whole other video but we'll get into that another day so yes I nod I an ad item not as described probably the closest thing to a swear word that you'll be allowed to say in the Facebook groups up next is a little bit of a definition Amazon FBA Amazon FBA stands for fulfilled by Amazon it is a system where you send your products into Amazon and they put them in their warehouse and then when some but he buys it off of Amazon they ship it out to the customer not you it's already in there where else to ship and then there's also fulfilled by merchants Amazon FBM that's when you sell on Amazon but you keep the product yourself and then when somebody buys it you are responsible for the shipping and you're also responsible for the return if a customer returns it it comes it comes back to you with Amazon FBA the product goes back to Amazon and they take care of the returns now don't get Amazon FBA emkin confused with another fbm fbm also stands for Facebook marketplace that is of course the local Marketplace on Facebook where you can sell things in your local community a lot of people sell having your items on Facebook marketplace or very delicate items and they don't want to ship anywhere so Facebook marketplace is a very good platform when it comes to selling and don't get that confused with Amazon FBA em or Amazon FBA which are other terms that you need to know as well if you're getting into the Amazon end of reselling this next term confuses a lot of people because they don't see it in their area if somebody says they're going to the bins they are going to a certain kind of Goodwill store where they bring out all the items in great big huge bins usually on wheels and you just rummage your way through the bins to look for the items a lot of these items are the stuff that couldn't sell in a regular Goodwill store or the things they don't they've lost a pair to a shoe maybe although sometimes you get lucky and find the second shoe and another bin so the bins are not everywhere there's a number of them around the United States I don't even know if there's any I'm a Canadian and I don't think there's any goodwill bins here in Canada but if you hear them talking about the bins in the Facebook group it is a type of Goodwill store not where everything's on shelves and neatly organized but it comes out piled inside rolling bins that you have to rummage through and then you pay usually by the pound for everything that you buy so sometimes people get really really good deals because they're paying for things by the pound and then you can turn around and resell them for full retail price on whatever platform you choose and last but not least in this very short terminology tutorial is something called the death pile I know it's a morbid term but it is something we talk about all the time in the Facebook groups a death pile is something that everybody has admit it everybody has it if you're a regular reseller and you're watching this admit it everybody has a death pile a death pile is that pile of clothing or the boxes full of items or the shelves or the closet or whatever you have of items that you have picked up whether you bought them or picked them up for free and we're intending to resell but never got around to it they're just sitting there they've never been cleaned they've never been listed you've never tried to sell them that's called a death pile now people have tried to change the terminology a little bit lately it's I prefer to call it my profit pile because probably most of my profit is sitting in that pile right now although my profit paw has been greatly reduced during these crazy times that were in at this point of May 20-22 files going to have a new connotation now you almost have to have a quote death pile or profit pile or unsold items pile these days now because of something like this coronavirus happens again people are running out of things to sell right now and so if you don't have a little bit of a backup stock that you're just going to leave and not touch then you may be in trouble so new connotation for an old term the death pile may become the profit Paula may become just your backup stash in the future so that's just a very very brief number of terms that you need to know before you head into the Facebook groups when it comes to reselling and thrifting as I said if you have another term that you think people need to know about leave it in the comments below let's keep passing on the wisdom because I definitely am NOT trying to get through every single thing you need to know in this video I only have a certain amount of time not a couple of months so let's let's pass on our knowledge and leave a comment down below if you have more terminology that somebody new to this business needs to know before they start looking groups and get lost forever last but definitely not least I would like to go through the top five questions that I see on the Facebook groups all the time every group all the time and these questions are how to put it nicely some of them aren't the greatest questions in the world and again if you use the search feature in the Facebook group you could probably get these questions answered quickly without asking them yourself and they do leave you open for not attack because people will try to be nice but at the same time they'll let you know that this question has been asked five million times before and it's really easy to find the answer to it so here are the top five most asked questions in facebook groups number five so guys what's selling for you these days well that's kind of a loaded question because veteran resellers are going to be wondering why are you asking are you trying to find out what we're selling well being after years and years of research and hard work to figure out what exactly sells online and you want to come in and just swoop in and ask us what's selling so you can start selling the same thing to that's one side of the coin but the other side of the coin is we understand that there are highs and lows to all different kinds of areas of reselling some things sell well at certain times such as jigsaw puzzles selling very well right now at during the corona virus epidemic but I would I would avoid this question as much as possible because you really are leaving yourself open for people to say I'm on your business and I I don't want to be that kind of person but really people are in this business to make money and if they start giving out all their secrets about what exactly is selling for them on the different platforms well then all the work that they've put in over the past year two years five years sometimes ten years is all for nothing because somebody else just going to swoop in and start selling the same thing and maybe undercutting the price and giving them some naan needed competition number four is this a scam and it's usually accompanied by a screenshot of this kind of message from a potential buyer saying thank you very much for accepting my offer kindly contact me at such-and-such a number or such-and-such an email so we can arrange payment nobody uses the word kindly in the English language anymore if you get a message from somebody and the first thing they say is kindly write away it's a scam it's a scam also never ever ever ever contact a buyer or potential buyer outside of your platform whether it's eBay or Poshmark or Macario or whatever if somebody wants to contact you outside the platform messaging system it's a scam and it's going to just cost you money and heartache in the long run sometimes this scam is also accompanied by something along the lines of I'll pay you an extra 200 dollars to buy gift cards so that I can include the gift cards with the package when my niece receives it for her birthday again red flags fireworks should be going off all over the place scam scam written all over it don't ever buy anything extra on top of the item to include with the item when you ship it even if they don't end up trying to contact you outside the platform just don't do it stick to the platform and stop asking this question if you could in the Facebook groups please it is a scam I know you're new and I know you have to learn sometimes the hard way and we will tell you it's a scam and there will just be 200 replies answers to your question yes it's a scam so if you're watching this video I'll save you the trouble it's a scam if they ask to contact them outside of the platform it's a scam most asked question number three oh my god guys I just found a box of my old Black Diamond Disney VHS tapes am i rich no you're not rich diamond VHS tapes of Disney's are not going to make you rich this is the result of a very poorly researched badly written news article a number of years ago where somebody just looked at but we're asking for their Black Diamond VHS tapes and decided to say that's how much people were getting for their Black Diamond Disney VHS tapes I could ask $5,000 for this pen I'm not gonna get it but I could ask for it the only way you're going to know what something is selling for is if you go into the sold items on eBay and right now a black diamond to Disney VHS is selling for maybe $20 $25 if it's brand-new still wrapped in the cellophane you're not going to get rich because you found your old Black Diamond Disney VHS tapes I'm sorry and any of the other ones that you see that are even in the sword section they are a false bidding that never paid for the item but eBay lists it as being a sold item even if the person never did end up paying for it or its money laundering as much as we hate to admit it there isn't money laundering that sometimes will be going on on the platforms especially eBay because somebody could buy something for two thousand dollars and send two thousand dollars worth of unmarked bills or who knows what they're doing to launder the money so it happens but nobody and I mean nobody is getting thousands of dollars for their Black Diamond Disney VHS tapes nobody question number two although this question has pretty much been barred now by most of the groups but it was non-stop there for quite a while so even in last year it's still the second most asked question that I remember on all the Facebook groups and the question is yes or no yes or no what I get this for 50 cents and I want to keep it for myself should I get it well then yes if I have to pay $50 for this and I try to resell it for $55 should I get it no you shouldn't and it's usually accompanied by a really bad picture with poor lighting that you can't even see what the item is yes or no questions don't fly anymore they never did I don't know what people were expecting to get when they just asked yes or no on an item but right now most of the groups have barred you from asking this question so don't ask this question if you want to stay in the group because you're not gonna get an answer because people are tired of seeing very vague yes-or-no questions when you don't give any context should I buy this for a dollar with the chance of selling it for $40 well then yes but we don't know that we need all you ask is yes or no but as I say thankfully most of the groups have borrowed this question from being asked unless you give a lot more context and a lot more specifics and it has made a lot of us very very happy and now the number one question that I see asked all the time on the various Facebook groups for resellers and grifters is what the heck is this thing does anybody have any idea well guess what we'd love that question members of the Facebook groups absolutely love it when people ask what exactly is this thing or does anybody have any ideas because that's where we get to help you that's where people can give you some of their knowledge that they've learned over the years when it comes to identifying an object or identifying an maker's mark or knowing the details of where something came from and that kind of thing that is what these groups are made for this is the question you need to ask all the time if you need to find an answer what is this thing I've asked that so many times in the various groups that I'm a member of and I have received answers within 10 minutes sometimes of the exact item where it was made the year was made and people are happy happy in these Facebook groups to give you the information we can't wait for those kinds of questions to come up that we can answer because I enjoy it when I am able to help somebody find out something about an item because I've received so much help myself that I want to be able to pay it back to other members and that's how the whole circle happens on these Facebook groups you help us we'll help you and it goes round and round and round and that is exactly why you should join a Facebook group for resellers and thrift errs if you're getting into this industry it's a great community there are amazing people out there with a lot of knowledge with a lot of respect for each other and if you treat them with respect and acknowledge the fact that they know what they're talking about they will help you out to the ends of the earth and that is why you join a Facebook group for resellers so I just wanted to give you a little brief overview of what you should expect and what you shouldn't shouldn't do if you're getting into this industry and you want to join a Facebook group for resellers there's lots out there it's a great business to be in it's a lot of fun even if you're just picking things for yourself to keep you'll get all kinds of great information on these Facebook groups and we welcome you with open arms no matter what group it is for and no matter what area you're getting into have fun with it have fun in the groups I know you'll learn a lot I know I have and it's the best way to get your feet wet when you get into this industry I hope you've learned a little something from this if you have please hit the like button down below so that it gets recommended to other people who are searching for this exact same type of thing and if you'd like to follow along on my entire journey as a Canadian eBay reseller hit the subscribe button as well and I will be glad to drop it on you at least once a week for the upcoming feature that's it for now everybody I will see you again very soon on another episode here on the motley mix merchants cheers for now [Music]
