you okay you fine we're fine she's fine hey everyone it's Jess Voigt Page here with  another three-ish minute thursday video designed   to help you create your career in music oh  gosh my cat is going to destroy something   today i've put on my business blazer because we're  going to talk about how to register your business   in 2021 so if you're a musician who's looking to  start a brand new business in 2021 you probably   have a few questions about how to register your  business and so i wanted to jump in today to   give you a little bit of information about how  to do that and hopefully demystify the process   just a little bit you want to register your  business so that you are legitimate in the eyes of   the law that you are legitimate in the eyes of  your customers and that you are legitimate in   your own eyes and your own heart this might seem  obvious but the very first thing that you want   to do when you are starting your business is to  choose your business name and this doesn't have   to be anything fancy if you have a business  name already in mind awesome if not you can   always just go with your own name the good news  is you know it it's easy to remember and people   are going to recognize you if you do have a  business name in mind that you want to go by   make sure that you check that it's available so  do a lot of searching go on google look for the   business registry and actually look it up to see  if it's already in use because you don't want to   steal someone else's business name that's not cool  and you probably get sued both of those things   not worth it so double check it make sure it's  available and if it is you're all set awesome go   you if you are wanting to use a different name  than you own for your business you're going to   want to file something called an assumed name  certificate these are pretty simple to find just   go on google look at your county's website and  find out how to file an assumed name certificate   sometimes this is called a doing business as  name that's going to allow you to do business as   your business name so step one choose your  business name next up you're going to want   to decide on your business entity and there are a  number of different options for this if you need   to this is where i'd recommend hiring someone  or working with someone to help you determine   those specific details so you can figure out which  entity is going to serve your business best one   other good thing about this is that if you decide  to change your business entity later on you can   still do that so don't feel like this is a one  and done thing you can change it in the future...
