i'm sure you've seen the news there's a massive child care shortage due to covet 19 and now more than ever nannies are in the driver's seat there are more opportunities than ever before for professional nannies and nanny's salaries are higher than ever at least where i live salaries have gone up upwards of ten dollars an hour for a professional experienced nanny so what does that mean for you and negotiating your contract it means that you have the opportunity to be a professional nanny and negotiate a contract that's fair and equitable for both you and the parents if we haven't met before i'm michelle kelsey founder of the nanny solution by nanny's on call each saturday i bring you new videos to educate and inspire you to get better jobs and make more money also now we have a series on wednesdays so if you know any families feel free to refer them over to our videos on wednesday of course they'll be helpful for nannies to watch as well let's dive right into the contract you know me i like to get the negative things out of the way first so let's have a look at a few of the maybe negative or things nannies are doing wrong or are hurting them when negotiating their contract number one try and leave the negative experiences you've had behind you if you've been a nanny for any length of time you've likely had a bad experience whether it's that the family didn't let you take vacation that you worked when you were sick that you worked overtime and weren't paid whatever the situation is try and leave that behind you now this is a new family and give them the benefit of the doubt that they're gonna treat you fairly and professionally number two is know your worth we've talked about it a lot in the past and i'll put the video up there about know your worth if you haven't seen that yet if the job is advertised at 25 to 35 dollars an hour and you're a new nanny going in at 35 an hour makes you look bad this is not going to help you in your negotiation you need to start lower and work your way up so part of the negotiation might be that you start at 25 and after you're there for a year you get a raise or a two dollar an hour raise and that's how you start making more money number three of the mistakes we've seen is if a job's posted let's just say 25 to 32 an hour you apply for the job the family is interested in you and then when you start the contract negotiation your rate is 35 an hour that is outside of the range of what was posted that's something that should have been discussed at the interview if you feel that the hours are longer the job expectations are higher...
