okay just testing to make sure everything is recording um this is cedric bearing with the stem success center uh hosting a coastal plant rescue virtual informational and webinar waiting on people to join now thanks hi emily hey thanks patrick how's it going how are you doing i'm good it's been a minute i was trying to remember when y'all came to camp it must have been pre-pandemic yeah it was pre-painted i think it was like the spring before yeah like right before everything kind of went down yeah that seems right yeah um and then we had a few students kind of coming in here and there but then once everything shut down people didn't really know what to do so yeah what we're trying to do is get back into the swing of it definitely are you guys having in-person classes and stuff or virtual world it's kind of been on and off like some students are having to go to class but then they kind of have a swing schedule where they do web x and then do in person um that's a part of what we were trying to figure out today is like how are you guys operating and stuff like that now yeah yeah we likely and i'll explain you know when people get here but um we luckily have been able to do our shelter at least pretty much the same since it's you know mostly out in the open um you know there's there's some more precautions that we have had to take but for the most part we're we're still there every day okay cool yeah hopefully we can get some of these new students in there and kind of get some fresh faces i know the dog that's a little bit awesome awesome awesome um it is 5 30. uh students are gonna kind of start trickling in if you wanted to wait till like maybe 5 35 yeah but we're not gonna hold you up um because it's being recorded so it'll be shared on our instagram and youtube so yeah without anybody missing out or anything this is just gonna get those students that are like initially interested definitely and if you could send me like names and um like email addresses afterwards of people attending or even if they couldn't attend like people that are interested um then i can kind of keep them in the loop and um send some follow-up emails too as a matter of fact what i will do is hi everybody oh thank you okay um if everyone could if you are just now joining um especially if you are on the phone um can you send a quick email to me um send a quick email just saying that you attended this event also that's gonna put you on the um the information list with miss emily she's gonna be giving you some more information but that will put you on her information list as well so if you could send an email to bmenc at savannahstate.edu and in the subject just put coastal pet rescue that way we'll be able to put you guys on her mailing list she'll have your information you'll have her information and they'll be a constant contact um because they'll she's gonna explain all this but the there's so many opportunities with coastal pet rescue um i love the place it's a great place to go especially when you're trying to get some stress relief and get some volunteer time in so um emily do you need screen privileges and stuff like that i do all right um let me see if it lets me yeah because i didn't set it up for it okay no it looks like it'll let me okay um yeah and like you said stress relief like that's how i ended up becoming a volunteer with coastal rescue is um i just had a stressful job um and i needed some way to do some health care that didn't involve a lot of people but for me it's definitely self-care to go to the shelter and hang out with dogs and walk dog even like the not the glamorous part of like picking up poop and cleaning and stuff it's still like an active thing for so for me it's definitely some help here all right you can note of everybody who's here great i'm starting to get emails now so okay yeah you can go ahead and start uh we'll give them like one more minute and then you can go ahead that sounds good everybody in the chat y'all feel free to chime in if you have questions um everybody's doing all right today you type it in the chat if you don't feel like talking is fine and i'm not sure if i can see the chat it might be because if i didn't download something oh okay um there should be something at the bottom like a little chat bubble that says show car yeah i think it's not letting me because i didn't like create an account or something so please feel free to interrupt me yeah and what i'll do is if they have any questions in the chat i'll just kind of pause it and let you know what's going on that sounds good right the floor is gone all right so i'm gonna see if i can hey mr beamon yeah it's it's like last night when we were on with mr frazier if they're outside you can give them the presenter mode but they won't be able to see the chat like he wasn't able to got it okay well i'll take i'll be kind of moderator and look at the chat um do what you need to do all right awesome so i'm gonna see are you guys seeing my screen that's late for me there we go there okay look at that figured it out i'm sorry i'm used to like zoom and not this platform but i need to learn them all um so welcome everybody um so i'm going to give you just kind of brief introduction to coastal pet rescue explain our volunteer opportunities show you how to sign up um i know that cedric that you um are wanting to bring like groups out but um there's also opportunities for like individual volunteering if you would like to have a competition and you're interested in doing that so i'll go over all that and yeah interrupt me if you have questions so um this is the volunteer packet that if you email cedric then he will forward you the volunteer packet i do need a few of these forms back which you can scan back to me or print out and bring it with you the first time you come or if you don't have access to a printer we will figure out a way um so this is the packet this is the first page just a little bit about coastal pet rescue and basically we were founded back in 2003 by lisa scarborough our director and founder and we saved the lives of homeless pets dogs and cats specifically in chatham-bryant effingham counties mainly sometimes we go a little further out but that's pretty much where we um get our animals we get them through owner surrender oftentimes so if for whatever reason the family is no longer able to take care of the animal they can bring them to us or we also pull from animal control so if there's a found animal or for whatever reason they end up at animal control coastal pet rescue as well as a lot of other rescues in the area will come in and pull animals from animal control we are really big on spain and neutering all of our animals are fixed before they're adopted out we love puppies and kitties but there's so many of them so we are very big on spain and neutering we also try to find the perfect forever home for our animals so that involves doing meet and greets beforehand because sometimes people can see a really cute picture online but it's just not the right fit for their family or their household so we want to try to make sure that things fit before they are adopted we also say that once a coastal pet rescue animal always a coastal pet rescue animal so that means that if the adoption doesn't work out for whatever reason we ask that they are returned to us so that they are we know that we're they're taken care of they're safe and then we can work to find them another family this also means that if we have an animal who is sick or injured when they come to us we will take care of them until the end so that's a little bit about our background and next we're going to go into the first form that you all have to find to fill out in order to volunteer this is our waiver of liability and you're going to fill out the top here with the date and your name and then your contact information down here at the bottom i'll sign here where it says cpr represent representative signature just read over this honestly it's normal waiver stuff but if you have any questions please let me know the next form that you'll have to return is this one the camp poswell retreat code of conduct agreement so camp possible is what we call our shelter it is um kind of over near lake mare like the truman and montgomery crossroads are like the closest big intersection for us and camp possible is where all of our animals go if they are not in foster until they get adopted um so this one please read over it and again fill out the bottom um the biggest thing here honestly is a tire i promise you will get dirty if you come volunteer at camp so you don't want to wear nice shoes you don't wear winter nice clothes when i go i always come back smelling lovely after i volunteer um so close closed toe shoes are a must um so old tennis shoes or like some rain boots that you can just hose off at the end of your shift um we do have some extras at camp if you forget or like we have some rain jackets as well because it gets kind of soggy out there um we do say no drugs or alcohol allowed at camp and if you smoke cigarettes please dispose of them appropriately so that the dogs don't get a hold of them and just in general be nice and respectful to everybody um any questions before i move on all right so the third form that you will send back to me is this one the volunteer skills and interest form um and basically you're just gonna circle anything that you're interested in and then you're going to put your name data here at the bottom if you circle something that doesn't like commit you to it it just will get you on the list of you know if we have a special project coming up we know who might be interested so we can email them um so i'm going to pretty much i'm going to go into camp pause well because i know that's what most people are interested in and then i'll just briefly touch on these other ones as well um so camp pause a while again is our shelter and we have shifts twice a day every day at camp um [Music] we have morning shift that starts around 9 00 a.m and then we have an evening shift that right now starts around four o'clock in the summer it's more like five o'clock it just kind of depends on when it's getting dark um on a shift you'll choose a kind of station or a section that you're going to volunteer at and we have four the first one is kennels which is our bigger dogs and cottage which are smaller dogs like 30 pounds and under and sometimes that's where puppies are um catery which is cats obviously um and then iso which is our medical ward which is oftentimes um cats and kittens that have some kind of medical issue going on we don't want them with the regular population basically so you basically you sign up at first to shadow an experienced volunteer in one of those sections so you can sign up for kennels to to shadow with the big dogs and learn kind of the ins and outs of how to feed where to walk how to clean um all of that um you just kind of learn on the job with an experienced volunteer after you do like two or three shadow shifts then you can sign up for a regular shift um once you feel like you can do it on your own i would budget like at least an hour and a half per shift sometimes it doesn't take that long if there's not that many animals or if there's more people signed up to volunteer um so sometimes it can take longer or shorter but i'd say about an hour and a half now if you all come as a group which i think you are planning to do then sometimes there's different projects that you can help out with that lisa has kind of figured out so that might be a regular shift of walking the dogs cleaning up after them same with the cats or it could be like reorganizing some of our stuff cleaning so there's different opportunities if you come as a group um let's see oh the other thing with camp we do ask that you wear a mask a lot of it it's outdoors but sometimes you're still going to be in close proximity to other people if you're like trying to get a harness on a dog or give some medicine to a cat or something so i'll pause there before i move on to the other types of volunteering um see if you have any questions about just wanted to reiterate even for those that uh may be wondering if you uh bring your completed forms to our office uh or need help with printing or anything like that you can do so in the stem success center at hubert b213 on campus um we have uh the research to be able to help you with those forms and because um coastal pet rescue is so close uh if we do the physical forms we can get them to coastal pet rescue same day just wanted to let you guys know that awesome thank you okay um so if you think of a question later on let me know i'll just go through the rest of these fairly quickly but stop me if you have a question so foster that is where you actually bring an animal or multiple animals into your own home and take care of them until they're adopted we provide all the supplies like you know the food the bed all the vetting so really it doesn't cost our fosters anything they just provide the time and the love until they get adopted events that's another one that some of you might be interested in um we've had to scale back our events during the pandemic of course but we are still having some um we have adoption events and that's where you can actually take an animal from camp a dog or cat from camp and bring them to an adoption event we have these different places we have them at local restaurants we have them at pet stores pet food stores we've had them at harley-davidson like lots of different places and you just bring the animal and you can talk to public and just try to help the animal get a little bit more socialized and hopefully get them adopted um we also have fundraising events too where you just come and you can talk up coastal pet rescue the animals to be adopted but also help us recruit more volunteers which we always need photography we always need good pictures of our animals for their adoption profiles um so please if you are at camp take a bunch of pictures um if they are on our adoption website so this is our adoption website can you all see that i switched over yes ma'am thank you i don't know if it always works um this is our adoption website and you can go and see like who's on our website um to be adopted there's more animals that are in foster and at camp that are on this website but for some reason they are not ready for adoption so it might be like a medical issue or they're not old enough we don't even put them out there yet until they're a little bit older so if they're on this page take pictures and share away put them on your own social media account share them with friends like get these dogs and cats adopted if they're not here though um please don't post pictures yet of them you can put them in our internal facebook group um which this is our facebook group that i'll i'll send you all the link if you want to join and this is where we just communicate with each other as volunteers you can see we share about adoptions and like somebody like needing to communicate just different information and that kind of thing so you can post pictures here um the only time you cannot post picture or take pictures uh is if we have an animal that specifically says don't take pictures of this animal usually it's because um we're helping with we partner with a domestic violence shelter and so if a family needs a place for their animal to stay per temporarily then we can sometimes help out and then obviously we don't want pictures out there because it's a safety issue but in general pictures great um let's see social media um we have instagram and facebook so please share our posts tag us all that fun stuff fundraising if you're interested in helping with fundraising at events or if you have some ideas we always need fresh ideas for fundraising especially during the pandemic it's been harder this year to have some of our regular events design if you are good at like making posters or brochures or if somebody wants to tackle redoing our website we could definitely use help on that um admin we have a lot of paperwork we gotta get to keep track of because of the state and other grant funders and so sometimes lisa just needs help with like filing scanning that kind of thing which sometimes you can do from your home and you don't have to physically be at camp camp maintenance if you are handy there's always something that needs to be fixed or upgraded this week our door to the cottage was coming off the hinges and somebody had to fix that we've been able to add play yards for the dogs in the past so there's always something that that can be uh tinkered with um transport that is um some volunteers help us transport our animals just to and from the vet um so that can be really helpful um obtaining donations so that's you know the regular like dog food cleaning supplies that kind of stuff but also obtaining donations for like raffle prizes and that kind of thing for our fundraising events cleaning and organizing when you're at camp you will clean every shift um if we didn't it would become a mess real quick um but sometimes like i said we have special projects to like reorganize our supply sheds or do some really deep cleaning and the kennels or you know that kind of stuff shelter meds and microchipping if you have experience as like a vet tech or anything like that and know how to do those type of things let us know and then grooming kind of similar if you know how to groom certain breeds of dogs or can cut nails trim nails that's helpful as well so that's a lot of information but there's a lot of different ways that you can volunteer not just at camp um any questions before i move on no man okay all right so this page here is useful websites contact info um and i'm also going to email y'all these um links um the first one is how to actually sign up for shifts so this is if you want to come outside of when your group comes all together which we would love you to do if you're able to this is how you're going to sign up so you're going to go to this page here which i think is this one camp possible volunteer information page and you're going to click here to register for an account we use volgistix as our scheduling platform and the first time you come you're going to fill out all your information create your account with your password and everything i don't remember if you get a confirmation but i know lisa goes in and confirms these at least once a day or so so then once you have your account you'll still go to the same link but you'll do the click here to log in and you'll log in really honestly the only thing you need here is the schedule and you can look at our shifts this way so you can see i'm signed up for sunday mornings so i'll just click that and it's going to show you the different types of shifts so we have the regular shift so just like cattery and then the shadow shifts so you guys um if you come individually you're going to sign up for the shadow shifts first and just check to see if there's somebody already signed up for a shift before you sign up um the animals get taken care of one way or another but if somebody's kind of doing it on the fly it's not always the best like learning experience um but you can see like um ash has signed up for cattery for sunday morning so you can click the schedule me to shadow catery and ask you yes no why am i gonna sign up here no okay sorry let me go back in um and when you sign up you'll get like an email reminder i think like the day before um so yeah we have cattery cottage which again is the little dogs um iso usually don't start out with iso but once you learn cattery you can do that as well and kennels um any questions about signing up for shifts so in order to be uh able to sign up for ships you have to already be registered correct yeah yeah you have to um go to this one first where click here to register and fill out that information yep good good question if you have any trouble with that let me know sometimes it's a little iffy especially on your phone versus like a computer um all right the next thing is facebook groups like i showed you we have a camp facebook group and we also have all these other ones so if you're interested in events or any of these other things you can request to join any of these and again i'm going to email you the links because it's not always easy to find if you just search for it on facebook but this is the primary way that we communicate with each other we you know post updates of pictures and like how the animals are doing if there's questions about anything we we communicate that way if somebody like this week we had a few people that had to call off sick from their regular shifts um so we had kind of people jumping in and tag teaming to help so yep just request to join any of these that you're interested in um this is our instagram that you can follow and tag and share and all of that um continuing education um that is a link to this site we have a free continuing education website for all of our volunteers so if you want to learn anything about any of these topics medicine disaster and safety so like you know preparing for hurricane season for your animals and that kind of stuff it's all right here not required um but there's some interesting stuff there if you want to learn more um then leadership there's some contact information alisa is again our director and our founder um after you do a few shadow shifts and you're ready to do like a regular shift you can message her let her know she'll get view the gate code key or yeah the gate code um we have cheryl down as our medical director and actually just changed to pam king which i can um add her contact information when i email you um cheryl's taking a little bit of break due to medical concerns but our medical director is who you can message if you're at camp and you see something looks kind of up um like like somebody's honestly like if there's some poop that looks concerning or somebody's eye is goopy or something like that um just communicating those concerns with pam um and they'll let she'll let you know like oh they just need a little bit of medicine or okay we'll keep an eye on that thank you um so that's a handy handy person to have and emily that's me i'm a volunteer coordinator so if you have any questions about volunteering or any concerns anything you think that we can do better we really want to make your volunteer experience rewarding for you um so if there's anything that any suggestions that you have please let me know also um i am also a volunteer so i don't have time to do everything that i think we could be doing for volunteer recruitment and retention so if you're interested in that or have ideas for that please let me know um and then the last page in your packet is just your volunteer daily log um so once you guys turn in your your packets to me um or to camp i'm gonna create you all folders at camp and this is a page that's going to be in it and this is just where you're going to keep track of your hours um some people have to keep track for school or whatever um but we also look at these every once in a while if we're like applying for a grant that kind of thing so i'm going to stop sharing [Music] there we go um and just kind of open any questions anyone have any questions excuse me i hear somebody yes but um where are you located again yeah uh we're located um on thomas avenue 7430 thomas avenue but if you know where lake mayor is we're like kind of across from um lake mare like uh montgomery crossroads so we're kind of down a road that runs parallel to the truman but that's the general area is uh near lake mare the pond you turn by that pond to the left yeah by the way that's where you turn and you go down a little ways past um there's a doggie daycare called animal house we're right next to that so we have to have like one shift shadowing and then we like can fully volunteer yeah um usually like two or three shadow shifts but honestly like it really depends if you've volunteered at a shelter before like there's you know if you're comfortable after one shift to do it on your own then that's fine too um emily i had a quick question oh i under the last time we came out there as a group um was an in-person orientation like similar to what this would have been right yeah yeah so you guys won't have to we'll have to do all this again when you get there yeah so um what i was trying to do or hopefully trying to do is that uh between now and the 12th which is a friday everyone that is completely interested fill out their information get that information to you guys and rent a a bus from the school so that we can uh maybe bring a couple of people to do shadow like group shout out is that possible for the 12th or is that something we have to discuss later um i'm going to say probably um we can set something up for that and probably like the sooner you know numbers the better um so that we can kind of organize to make sure we've got enough people to shadow um [Music] yeah and i'll talk with lisa too about kind of coordinating that okay students really quick well i have you guys on here how many of you will be available on the 12th or would you rather do it a different um [Music] you know what what works for you guys while we're here because you guys are the ones that are going to be taking part in in these activities and going out there so what what would friday the 12th um either a morning shift or afternoon shift uh trip out there work for you guys yes well for me yeah like probably the 12th that afternoon all right if if uh how about this i'll do a little poll really quick yeah because there's two is it polly which one is it and i will say that we need help basically every day so i'm sure any day that any day or time that you guys could come would be awesome um but to learn how to do an actual shift yeah coming um for the morning shift or the evening shift is good [Music] all right so i just put something in the chat um this type of one if you're more for the morning shift and two if you're more for the afternoon that way we know how many numbers uh we have to send to the coastal pet so that they can have enough people to shadow um it may end up being an all-day thing or something like that but we'll get it coordinated for you guys yeah if you guys are able to do both that like do you choose shifts like that'd be cool too i don't see the chat you don't see the chat uh so i can't get into the chat because i guess i'm not a team member got it so what i'll do forget the chat thing what i'll do is i'll send out a survey through email and that way we'll get information um that way okay thank you no problem any other questions and do we have dog and cat people for more dogs more cat people yes yeah i'm more dumb it doesn't matter with me they're kind of a mix of people good okay i know i am a dog person but we also have some very lovely cats uh follow-up question if we have our own animals and we want to bring them to volunteer or with us is that a possibility or is that something that's frowned upon no we we can't we don't really have like the space for that yeah but that's a good question yeah gotcha all right um well that's all the questions i had all right um okay so um you're going to send me people's email addresses when you have them and we're going to coordinate like a good time on the 12th or times on the 12th and we'll start um organizing from there um and again if if people want you even before the 12 if you want to start coming individually if you can um you are welcome to do that too and just um you'll have my email address um and you can send me any questions so don't be scared don't be afraid to get started if you want to start individually you know prior to this club just make sure that you complete those forms first and once again if you need help with printing those forms out you might not have a printer in your dorm room if you are on campus or if you are off campus and you just need that type of assistance come by the office we are back open um so come by the office and uh we'll get you get your forms done and if you turn in your forms to us we will make sure that they get to the coastal pet rescue site yep where's the office located hubert b 213 uh we're directly behind uh campus security um if you're coming from the front side of campus where the stadium is you will come all the way down until you get to the four-way stop where you'll see um the advisement building you'll see the pain on the other side of the street you'll see like the big field where the garden is you're gonna make a left on that four-way stop uh where they just built that new parking lot and we're located in that new parking lot area anything else all right well thank you and we're really excited to meet you all and for you guys start volunteering with us we have a pretty full house right now with dogs and cats so we have lots of lots of opportunities for volunteering and i will say that again like for me it's it's i love like helping out um my community and helping out the dogs and cats but it's also a lot of self-care for me because you know spending spending a morning with some adorable dogs like it's good for my soul so hopefully you guys will enjoy it as well yes ma'am all right well thank you guys and uh we all have exchange contact so if you guys have any questions please feel free to reach out to myself or emily um or stop by the office all right thank you all y'all have a great afternoon
