good morning how are you it's Mary Bicknell I'm getting my cup of coffee and we're gonna have a conversation today about your credentials so this is anyone who is um interested in figuring out look I've got all of these years of experience I've got all of these initials behind my name why do I do now if I want to transition into coaching what do I do now if I want to become a coach what do I do now if I don't want to do anything with those initials how can i leverage them how can I utilize them how can I make sure that I'm not feeling like years of excuse me years of school 1 years you know that it doesn't go to waste so for those of you who have never met me before I I'm a clinical social worker I used to practice in psychotherapy and I've done every kind of job that you can imagine in the Social Work field I've done home help I was a behavioral trainer on the cognitive behaviors by training by credentials right for over 25 different nursing homes all across Baltimore and I was the behavioral trainer for the entire staff in addition to having my caseload with all of my patients and I was in I did home health I was in the inner-city Baltimore you know walking up high-rise buildings with you know pee everywhere to go see you know patients who had AIDS where you wouldn't sit down on the chair because you didn't want to get stuck by a needle I have had my own private clinical practice I worked at Johns Hopkins I've worked in different numerous psychiatric units several I'm wondering it like at least six different psychiatric units so I have a variety of background as far as me Oh I've worked in the level 5 school home health or you know I have a long history so when I got involved in the coaching industry about five or six years ago I guess it's close to six years ago I am frankly I didn't know what to do with all of my credentials I was really proud that I have a I have an a a degree and I also have a BS W an MSW and my clinical license in LCSW and I was the truth is is that those two those those initials made me feel like I was something made me feel as though that external validation for all that work I'm like look it's a lot of work you know my graduates degree my MSW I was a fellow Carl Albert fellow and fortunately my internship allowed me to to get paid and that was kind of cool as the only person I worked on a burn unit forgot about the Bernie in it yeah that was pretty interesting I worked at that Oklahoma City the Oklahoma Capitol doing statistical analysis I've worked in Department of Human Services with you know child welfare it's all coming back at least 25 now I am 25 plus years this is what I want to say the difference between what I did historically and what I do today is is the same on many levels as far as helping people and so if you don't know my business looks like this I have several legs or revenue streams to my business and I want to share with you because I want you to really hear your potential and then I'm gonna walk through how you can utilize your own credentials so that you can leverage them and obtain a highly impactful business very profitable coaching business and so that you ultimately can create the life that you want my business is all about helping women create a life that they want so I am the regret proof a life coach I have a life coaching business and I work with women all over the world helping them get unstuck help with their thinking help with their mindset helping them you know get more confident stand up show up do the thing I also work with mental health and wellness professionals who want to transition or who want to add coaching to their current job their current practice or maybe they want to get out of the agency or nonprofit or Hospital and create an actual coaching practice for themselves and I do corporate work I speak all over the country I have clients literally all over the globe and why I'm sharing you this sharing this with you is because I want you to understand the power that you have becoming a coach so this is not me bashing therapists or mental health professionals or anything like that we definitely need that but I don't know about you but after I was working for years in the industry as a clinician I was burned out and if you had are watching this and you've ever felt burnt out you know put it in the comments or if you've had the replay hey put replay and where you're from I appreciate you being here I'm so glad welcome welcome welcome I'm here to be an open book for you and answer any questions that you have and so if you've ever been felt burnt out put a like burned out so that I know that you know what I mean what I experienced and there was some guilt associated with feeling burnt out or not wanting to help my patients it wasn't like I ignored them it just that my caseload was so heavy and the mountain of paperwork oh yeah I forgot to say I was um like all these jobs I've had as a social worker I was a caseworker I was also in Oklahoma the temporary director were back then way back in the 90s where they were just getting ready to do like mental health Medicaid ish and so I helped develop that program I think I need to write all this stuff down this is back to you credentials right um and you know so when I I realized that when I went to school and I decided that I wanted to help people what happened was it was all around the idea of hey if I get my clinical I can diagnose people and that made me feel like there was some inherent power there right I had some kind of power I know that sounds crazy but also I just I used that to like legitimize myself to create some kind of status because I grew up where it was like don't think too big don't go for it who do you think you are we don't even think you're gonna finish high school no one in my family has ever had a business no one in my family has ever had a six-figure lifestyle I excuse me a 7-figure lifestyle seven-figure lifestyle I'm the only one who went to college and have all these degrees like you know breaking that chain breaking that mold and what the the problem with that is I also hid I also hid behind things right I hid behind men booze my titles my where I worked like all of these kind of things and when I transitioned into coaching I didn't know what to do with all of that I didn't know because in coaching you know they talk a lot about be transparent sure here you are and all those kind of things and all I wanted to do was have my mask that I'm a therapist right I'm a clinical social worker and I didn't want to call myself a coach I didn't want to be in that arena and so the reality is is that that was hard to give up because I would lead with that and so you may be wondering that yourself like how can I lead with my credentials if I don't want to use my credentials anymore so the other day I asked in one of my private Facebook group so if you're not in that please jump in I asked just the simple question what are your credentials and I had dozens of women just give me all the initials behind their name you know clinical social worker all fmt PhD etc etc all of these amazing accomplishments and the reason I asked this question was because the other day someone asked me oh what are your credentials it was during it was in a Facebook ad so I have this ad running that talks that it shares like how to get started in coaching and someone said what are your credentials and I realized that I'm at one time might have just said LCSW and now I realize my credentials are significantly more and this is what I want to give to you I want you to recognize you you are more than your you know initials or certifications you are more than those credentials and when you're building your coaching business it's important to remember that all of you so let me read you the definition of credentials because I was like well maybe I'm wrong maybe it just says you know usually so a noun a credentials evidence of authority status anything that provides a basis for confidence belief or credit so I was using all my degrees as a basis for confidence belief and like out also an external credit and what I realized is it doesn't say in there your college degrees it doesn't say that your credentials it doesn't say the initials behind your name it says evidence of authority status rights entitlement to privilege anything that provides a basis for confidence and belief and so what I realized is actually my credentials are far more than my AAA my BSW my MSW my LCSW and all the other certifications that I have it's bigger my credentials are bigger and I want to offer to you your credentials are bigger and I want to ask you what you are leading with so let me give you some other things to contemplate about your credentials again let me remind you why this is so valid and really important that you're hearing this because I know that if you have all of those initials and maybe you're even thinking about getting some more I'm gonna go back and get this PhD I'm gonna go get this DSW I'm gonna go get this going to go get certified for coaching I want to offer to you that you have everything you need right now to have a successful coaching business you do not need one more set of initials behind your name what I want to ask of you is to think about credentials in a different way not just all of the proof right given to you by some someone else that but also internal credentials for example what's your personal so these are the things I answer to that woman when she's like what are your credentials and I know she didn't mean it in a bad way I know she legitimately and that's actually the first person in and six years of coaching that's ever asked me and um and I said do you mean my initials behind my name do you mean my degrees do you mean all my certifications do you mean the thousands of women I've helped through the years do you mean the income that I have do you mean the time freedom that I've allowed myself do you mean all of my various programs that I've created on my blog posts on my videos like what do you mean by my credentials see this that happened for me in coaching is realizing that my initials or my tools cognitive-behavioral trick you know yeah I don't know EMDR but brain spotting and ER like all of the therapeutic modalities all of those things are just tools they don't define me just like your credentials even though they're behind you they don't define you you bring your not only those credentials but your personal history to the table your stories your experience helping people yes the tools that you might have used but maybe you've used them for yourself let me give you a couple examples of this you know as a therapist excuse me I always have my cup of coffee usually with you as a therapist I was very you know we have a distance right I'm the I like I all told you and I think you better in hue or whatever I mean I am exaggerating four points here right in coaching we are co-creating I'm not elevated above my clients just because I have more experience at this point I have more experience in doing this some of my clients have way more experience in a lot of other areas that I do like way more I can't even speak to what they can speak about I don't need to what I do is I help them recognize what's within what they've used what they're capable of and I know some of you are new and you might be like oh my god you know I don't even on my degree or I'm just getting ready to sit for my clinical license it doesn't matter you have helped someone let me give you a couple coaching examples so that you can see yourself in this you can see how profitable it can be you can see how you can build a lifestyle I'm gonna share with you my calendar in a minute so that you can see what I've built and the reason I'm sharing this is not to be like hey look at me it's more about it's like look what's possible I want to inspire you to be into the possibilities that you have right now right here at this moment in time and we have never had a better opportunity to build a kind of business that we love create the lifestyle that we want and make the kind of money that we want never before and I know if you have any of those quote quote initials behind your name you are more than capable of learning the skill of building a business it's a skill it's a skill you spent years probably getting your degrees and then sitting for your license blah blah blah all of that building a business is a skill you need to learn if you haven't learned it and if you haven't learned it if you've learned it you're probably not watching me if your business isn't making hundreds of thousands of dollars you're probably not watching me because I work with women who are transitioning or up leveling so let me tell you a couple of examples right let me give you a couple of examples of first I want to share so if you've done something in your life let me give for maybe you you've thought about being a health and wellness coach because you've mastered how to be stress-free or at least tamper down your stress and you've shared that maybe you've just shared that with your girlfriends or your brother or your mother at your church that's coaching that's shearing that's elevating that's seeking a goal that's providing a solution see in coaching we are helping co-create something for the future and therapy often times we're looking at healing dysfunction and that's way over simplistic but I'm just trying to like if I had to say it in one sentence coaching his future focus therapy Espace focus way way way over simplification so don't email me about it let me give you a couple examples of clients that I'm working with I have a couple clients who were marriage therapists right or a couple of therapists and now they are relationship coaches so they work with maybe just the woman who wants to have a better relationship or some of them work with I've had clients and work with you know just the the reality that one person can change the dynamic of a relationship and to let you know - I started my business as a relationship I was the relationship tour guide because I didn't want to use the word coach and so my point to you is is that you have this opportunity to look at yourself and your thinking and judgment around the word coach and a wonder whether or not you have attached to coaching the coaching industry some kind of deficits some kind of like well you have all your degrees and now you're gonna go and be a coach and somehow that's less than I want to challenge that thinking for you I want to challenge that coaching is one the fastest like number two with like three ish growing industries right now now is your time to use your credentials which is again your years of experience your tools your helping people your history your stories all of these are are what will make you a fantastic coach and the fact that you're here you're also listening you're a great listener right therapists were like wellness for petitioners were great at listening we're great at not judging people part of this judgment too is like you're like well where am I gonna find people people are everywhere when I work with my clients and even in my coaching programs right now I'm running one Cod transition to coaching the Foundation's three core foundations that you need for your business next that's coming out is a new expanded version of the big bold life in biz plan for mental health and wellness practitioners who want to coach that's going to be the next level up on marketing and pricing and packaging and really mastering sales and maybe speaking and all these of really amazing ways that you can build your coaching business so let me give you a little bit of insight I told you I do live coaching I am the regret proof live coach I have like automated programs that people buy while I'm like sleeping it's phenomenal I reach women all over the globe so in other words I'm not restricted by my state now granted you can make a ton of money just work in your state the difference to with coaching is as far as the money you know when people work in private practice a lot of times it's just like you know it's 150 bucks let's just round numbers it's 150 bucks an hour and you know you're booking each time out in coaching you're providing like a package a program this is the thing I do and it's going to be 90 days or it's going to be six months see you get to decide what's helpful for your clients insurance isn't deciding it and people who come in with a money therapy who are who are trained historically because this is a medical model of our time is that oh it's a one-off thing they're not really thinking about maybe I'm going to be in therapy for 90 days or six months so in coaching you know people pay upfront and so you really alleviate that money issue major thing so here's a little bit about my calendar I don't want to share this with you so that you can have that in this moment one of the things I like to teach my clients is something called the beneficial brag and it's kind of tongue-in-cheek bragging cuz you know we're not supposed to brag as women you're not supposed to say good job to yourself you're not supposed to be like oh my god I made the best roast ever you're not supposed to say wow I really help this client you're not supposed to say I mean fifty thousand dollars this month by the way my highest month to date income wise was nearly seventy thousand dollars now at eight ranges between twenty and forty thousand dollars a month so I'm building a seven-figure business why why am i doing that I'm first of all I love having a lot of money money buys you freedom if you don't love money and want money in your life you need to get over that and that's definitely one of the mindset things that I work with women so so if you were like well I'm not greedy I'm not talking about greedy I'm talking about wanting to have the kind of life you want and being in a place that you recognize the value of what you offer is transformative and therefore your years of experience your credentials the tools that you that is what people are paying for they're not paying for a one hour I'm just going to send talk to my therapist for one hour when people work with me there that my rates they're paying for the years of experience they are paying for the results that happen they're paying they're investing in themselves through the work that I do the same with you I have one one woman in one of my coaching programs and you know she's a mom she's a clinician right she has a prize she has a practice I think but she doesn't want to do that anymore and so she is transitioning her coaching business to provide coaching to parents of kids who have mental health disorders because she has a two kids with mental health disorders so she gets it she's gonna be able to talk about that she's gonna be able to really understand she's gonna bring her credentials which are not those initials those help great she's got them but really the more important credential for her is her years of having kids teenagers her teenagers that's her credentials now some of you might say well I want to help kids well I want to help parents with kids with mental health disorders I don't even have a kid the reality in coaching is we're helping people transform where they are today to where they want to be and if you understand that pathway and under and this is one of the things I teach you this is definitely one of the things I teach you how to understand how people to a pathway to transformation it's so I like I am I want to jump out of my chair here like I'm so grateful for this my clients are like the best clients in the Walden are having amazing results they are like their brains are blown open with possibility that's what I want for you let's so here's my calendar um I coach hold on to your hats ready don't freak out one two three days a month Thursdays and I have my coaching calls on Thursdays with my group three the first three Thursday's of the month first second and third Thursday I'm saying this over and over again cuz I know you might be like I don't think she said that right I did I said it right the first three Thursday's of the month I coached three days a month do I ever have another time than I coach people yes caught a VIP day where we've spent a whole day massed cranking out what you want to do for your business when is the last time you ever spent a whole day with someone who can help you map out your business future get things in alignment so that then you the time we work together is just you implement and execute and we then Bob right because sometimes you have to pivot you have to test some stuff out so also my private clients have access to me on the app boxer so it's kind of like a walkie talkie they can be like Mary Bob a little lot and I'll just hit right back that is it that is it up this thing with people in my my group the Foundation's course that's going on right now is that I'm in there I'm answering questions sometimes that ask me a question I'll just shoot a quick live video for them because I want them to have results let's get it done why and so what am i doing the rest of the time people are like well what else are you doing okay well I'm marketing this is marketing what is marketing marketing is showing up and sharing your words of advice words of wisdom sharing what the potential is sharing what I could do if we worked together it would look like we would sit down figure out what kind of coaching business that you want we'd figure out how much money you want to make figure out when you want to work figure out what's in your way figure out what do we need to work privately four months or six months together or do you need to try out one of my programs right now I have a home study program that you could have access to try that out get started on your own then you circle back if you want some private coaching so the rest of the time I'm doing code I'm doing content creation I'm doing things like this I'm doing via the behind some of the behind the scenes stuff sometimes I travel cuz I just came back from a corporate event where I did a workshop for a corporation that flew me into California speaking networking being online I take every Friday off I'm I have nothing scheduled typically at all Monday afternoon now granted this is my business so every now and again even on those days off I'll pop in and answer a question in a Facebook group or whatever but my like focused client time is on Thursdays the first three Thursday's of the month I want you to ask yourself this question right now if you were able to look at your credentials differently and not just those initials but also all the other amazing things that you are as a woman and that you've done and how you've helped people and your years of experience and how you've helped yourself have transformations and what other headwork minds that work have you done if you put that all together that's your coaching business now if you've never done any mindset work hello you need you and I need to talk because that will be the number one of it the number one thing that you have to work on your thinking about this your thinking about selling I don't want to sell what is selling selling I'm selling right now I'm telling you this is who I am this is what I do marketing and selling it's kind of the same thing you're sharing what you're doing well this is the other thing too that I love you know I want to help you build and life is create design your lifestyle and build a business around what you want life is short this is why I've created the regret proof of life program which actually is there's going to be an additional module to that for you if you want to understand a little bit some of the nuances for coaching it's a training that you'll be able to look at my life coaching program that is successful and transformative and then I work with clients I would participate in that if I were you and then take that additional month-long training so you can learn some of the nuances you'll be able to do some practicing on you know people practicing and you can't really screw them up so don't worry and so that you can understand what are some of the top questions I bet you 50 bucks is that you probably already are doing a lot of coaching and you just don't realize it so I would love for you number one in the comments below you know tell me why you want to transition into coaching like why what's the thing so number one number two you can see right above my head if you go to my website right here there's the thing that says call Mary you can book a business breakthrough call it's a free call we're just gonna chat see if there's anything I can do to help you or support you what resources I might have we may or may not work together I don't know I don't work with every person that I have these calls with but what I do know for sure is that you will walk away with a clearer understanding on what coaching can do for your life what kind of income you could have and what kind of niche or what kind of person or what kind of solution you want to provide for people like that's what we'll talk about in that business breakthrough call so I hope that this helps you I hope I know that this helps you look and shift your thinking around your credentials I would love to for you to go back in here and write out your credentials and realize you're just not writing your letters your initials behind your name you know maybe you're somebody who lost 50 pounds maybe you're somebody who you know went through the death of a loved one maybe you're somebody who has learned how to be more assertive and you want to teach other women how to be more assertive maybe you you want to do live coaching because you want to help people have a better life and you've done the work on that and you recognize how to have a better life maybe you want to help women understand really get in touch with their emotional self because they're disconnected maybe you want to help someone have more self love for themselves more self compassion that's a lot of the work that I do in the regret proof life program it's significantly powerful the whole concept about regret proofing your life is recognizing how much power you have to look in your past and could be compassionate with the woman who did whatever the hell you did and recognize you have the control and the power to create that future and make a decision about what you want so that one year from now tonight when you go to bed tomorrow week from now a year from now ten years from now on your deathbed you're not going to look back because you were consciously deciding you're constantly showing up in your power of creation you're a woman you are designed to create you are designed to receive and I want to give you everything that I possibly can so love to see you on a call if you have any questions write them in here I totally we get back to you and take away realizing that your credentials are way more than the letters behind your name have a good day
