Lay out required field contract
hello everybody welcome to this month's contract administration practice session so with that I do want to get going with today's session so I will hand it over to one of our co-chairs Jim Raines who was the fearless leader for this this multi-part series I let him get started on today which I we are tackling chapter 9 so Jim over to you Thank You Matthew and welcome everybody to chapter 9 of the practice guide where we are going to talk about executing the work my favorite part of construction administration getting started in the field and seeing our dreams come true so just to reiterate one thing that Matthew said please raise your hand and participate it makes these sessions so much better even if we do have to go over some or split it up because that that makes it rich so and perhaps my colleague Doug Freeman will join us at some point today Doug's had a really really busy year fall in spring and so he hasn't been able to be on many of these calls but we we look forward to him participating so Matthew if you want to go to the next slide and we're going to talk about the project work getting started so here we are in the field and we've gone through all the process to get started and it usually begins by excuse me putting some stakes in the ground so this is critically important right we have surveys that have typically been provided by the owner and we're laying out the project which usually involves surveyors the project superintendent or project engineer perhaps a project manager getting things laid out and laid out in the right place and it's really important to focus here on getting in the right place because as everyone knows from this point forward any kind of a serious issue is going to have a compounding effect on the project and could start us off in a real mess so let's go to the next slide Matthew talk about supervision so at this point the general contractor for the project no matter what the delivery method is taking over and supervising what happens so they begin to act as the spokesperson for the project of course the architects or engineers of record stay involved but really the general contractor is now supervising personnel and it's important that everything that is available to them for the construction of the project is in their hands and that they're following it so that they know the contract documents and that they strictly comply with what those documents say and in those documents are all of the references to particular regulations that they also are aware of and stay on top of because it is their job to assure that that work in the field is done in accordance with those documents and also in accordance with what the local authorities having jurisdiction require for the project...
