hey it's ryan from ryonet and today's screen printers we're going to be talking about graphic screen printing you know those stickers signs posters paper all sorts of different things that can be screen printed that aren't t-shirts but first i'd like to thank the person who made me this t-shirt which is derek from fingers duke who made me this awesome t-shirt thank you very much shout out to you guys check out fingers duke.com and now let's jump into this stuff so the thing about graphic screen printing is it's actually almost as big of a market as textile screen printing just most of us textile screen printers don't get into it it can seem hard and complicated because it has air dry inks and certain parameters around it but the fact of the matter is it's just screen printing so let's show you how to do it the first thing we need to talk about is ink now graphic screen printing is completely different than textile screen printing you see a t-shirt the ink is received into the shirt especially like water-based or discharge ink but even plastisol the shirt is not a hard substrate whenever you're printing something like a vinyl place mat that's not receiving any ink the ink needs to be sitting up on top of it plus you can't really run a lot of this stuff through a dryer so we can't really use plastisol ink so there's two types of ink that we typically can use in graphic screen printing one is solvent and the other is uv now with uv you need very special dryers that are extremely expensive and special equipment to print it and can you know can cause actual burns on your skin if you spill it on you for instance so solvent is actually a little bit easier for a manual printer to print solvent also does not fade in sunlight like uv ink could do so solving is a great choice now depending on what you're printing there's different inks for different substrates so you want to match your substrate for your ink because not all substrates receive the same ink certain type of substrates like aluminum for instance are very hard to receive ink so basically this is another type of ink that we're going to use for this called epoxy ink which is very similar to solvent-based inks and in the same family but is a two-part process today we're going to be using the general purpose ink and showing you how to use most solvent-based inks once your ink is tested you're ready to go to print now a lot of these inks have different types of thinners available to mix in them the thinner allows the ink to actually thin out a little bit and stay wetter in the screen now all these are air dry inks so depending on the type of ink some dry faster or slower than others the...
