[Music] hi i'm haley founder and lead designer of hailey colby design i've been designing residential remodels and new builds for the last five years and now my husband chad and i are finally building our own home i'm so excited to bring you along to see project colby come to life hey guys i'm so excited to bring you video 2 in the project colby series in today's episode we are going to talk about a few things one being why it's important to make design selections before you ever start building your new home the second thing you're going to get to see in today's video is my work in making the selections for my own home and today chad is going to see them for the first time and he's going to get to see them as a presentation just like i would present to one of my clients he's going to be here any minute and i cannot wait to show him i really hope he loves everything but he may not so we'll we'll see it's gonna definitely be a candid reaction because he does not know any of my selections so far go here all right right here yep okay good yeah okay okay so with the exterior you know we're putting a stone on the chimney and this is just a few samples i was asking them if they would pick out the darker stones right um and kind of avoid the lighter gray stones but that's essentially what it's going to look like okay and then of course like you know the exterior is going to be white and then the shutters would be white or black do you have a preference i think black would look better but i i can't visualize white right now i think black was the best okay organization and efficiency for a project really begins before you ever break ground with construction at haley colby design it's so important for me and a part of my process to serve you well by making those selections early on what color is our door black okay it allows us to make sure that we have made selections that are within the budget that we've already established for you do you like the color i do like that i thought it was like knotty and it doesn't look so perfect so that you know little little stains or little feet and shine in case coming over jumping on our sofa yeah small feet whereas if you were to make a decision or selections throughout the construction process then you don't have as much time to make modifications to your design and then of course our antique mantel that we would paint white so that's that's the white i chose it's a little bit warmer not too stark as the designer and the homeowner on the project it was a really unique perspective for me chad really trusted me with the design of the interiors of our home but he was really passionate about the floor plan and having an input he wanted it to function really well for our family this may be our the only home we ever build so we wanted to put as much thought into it as possible we've taken into account every house we've been in especially recently and said what we did did like and didn't like one of the main emphasis is people nowadays they either build their houses or they live in their houses to where the front doors never used and we wanted to make sure that that was something that at least the guests always entered through the front door and the house was set up that way to where you didn't come in the back door or everybody didn't come in the back door like we did and it just it's a wasted opportunity of a house sometimes when that front door oh you forgot that front door's even over there so our house is set up to come in the front door both with parking and then the layout of the house so that was kind of the main starting point with us and then we kind of went from there i know we wanted kind of a courtyard type feel in the middle with the house kind of wrapping around it a lot of windows where you can see through make things feel bigger um and then from there it was just figure out how functionally it was best you know having the the master kind of off from the living area so it's you know quite secluded from everything else and then you had of course the other bedrooms the powder bath living room all that over there so i guess that's why it was it was more important for me for that so i was actually really surprised that he went with the sconce the wall sconce in our master bathroom that he did well i think i like either okay great i like that one okay good i'm good with that okay yeah i'm fine with either one it was a kind of a toss-up there for a minute and i thought he might go with my second option which i loved but i really liked the unique sconce that had kind of a funky shade different shape to it and it just added like a fun little characteristic i love the other one too but to me it's not as of a risk it's more typical and i like this one just because it adds like a unique design and that's just i don't know it's more fun it's more playful while chad and i were dreaming of our future home we were tossing around like different thoughts and ideas about what our house would look like we started watching the movie it's complicated and it's one of our favorite movies now we absolutely love the movie but we really love the house and the movie the design of the house and how it's got so many windows and it's really eclectic but yet it has some a few traditional features and definitely some antiques spread throughout the house it just felt really similar to what we wanted for our future home so then of course moving into the living room our inspiration being that it's complicated house um our favorite little house and you know important things that like we really liked here we're putting the tv in our cabinet that we already have this is a really exciting part of the process for me and for you as the client because you actually get to see each room kind of come to life you get to see the materials in each room and the personality of your family translate into the design for the very first time and then the porta gachet you know with our inspiration from like the father of the bride house and then this is actually the design that we're going to use for the construction so you can see on the plans we kind of did a diagonal cross but really more x's it's going to be more like outside and that'll be on front and the side right front front and the side yeah the best part about the presentation is for you to be able to see the entire comprehensive design for you to see exactly how it flows from one room to another and how it's very intentional from one room to another so then the exterior light fixtures you know we found those antiquing for example with chad nice home we used a lot of pictures from our travels mainly uh beach pictures we really love the beach and you can see those immersed in my designs throughout i was thinking that painting from palace vertice could go above the right above the cabinet and then the picture of the big star could go above our okay gotcha yeah and they influence the color palette of my design and our accessories i'm glad i've trusted you yeah that's a trust yep for sure good deal well then we can start construction now i'll get all of my finished schedules together and sent over to glinda and um we will get going good she can't wait she'll be excited to hear that we've finalized everything yeah i'm sure so after two years after two years yep it's really happening yeah okay very excited we'll break ground soon thank you for watching today i'm just thrilled to bring you along to see project colby come to life and i'm so excited for the next phase you're going to see us break ground and start construction
