hello everyone welcome back it's jen so today i'm going to be sharing with you a video that has been quite highly requested for some time now and i'm so sorry that it's taken me this long to get to it but you guys have been asking me to share with you how like a beginner's creating pocket letters so that's what we're going to talk about today i feel like everyone has their own way of doing it and there really is no right or wrong way so i'm just going to share with you tips things that work for me things that i like to use and give you guys some ideas so that's what we're going to do here so the very first thing when creating a pocket letter is you're going to want to get these clear sheets so i just get this package here it's eight sheets in here it's a dollar at the dollarama here in canada so you can make eight full-sized sheets in this package so this is what it looks like it's just a clear people use them to put their baseball cards in hockey cards collectible cards so it's just this you can see the different compartments here and so you're going to want to get those to start with that's the very first thing you're going to want to do for pocket letters so there's a couple different ways you can make pocket letters um you can do the full size sheet like this so you've got your nine compartments here now you can also make what is called a mini pocket letter and i've done both so you can do your full size your mini pocket letter when i do a mini pocket letter what i like to do is take this full size sheet of nine here and cut it into three pieces so mini is just three little slots like that so it just depends on what you want what you're going for who you're sending it to how much time how much effort you want to put into it so there's those couple options first thing that i always do when i'm making pocket letters again everyone does it differently some people just like to make it one-sided i always like to make it double-sided i just think it adds a lot more to the pocket letter so the front side that you're viewing here i like to make one theme and then i like for when it flips over to be a completely other theme on the back so in these compartments what i do is if i could get this the right way there we go so we have our slots that open at the top of each little clear compartment here so i usually have some templates that i keep set aside of pocket letter size pieces that i've already cut out i can't find any i think i might have used them up so i'm gonna have to make some new ones so what i do is just simply start by taking the measurements of these little pockets this way and then this way then i just take a piece of paper that i'm going to be using and transfer the measurements over onto here now you can do this one by one by one if you want what i normally just do is mark mark my size for here on the paper that i'm going to be using so then what i like to do once i have my measurements marked on here i just take a pencil and trace the line for my little square that i'm going to be cutting out and then just get yourself uh so a ruler handy um pair of scissors good scissors is handy keep on hand and i like to just cut my one piece out and then from there i just use that one piece instead of continuing to draw the whole time after time measure mark your measurements i just cut using that one template now for the paper that's going inside of these there's a couple different papers that i have found work best like my favorite you can use anything my friends you can literally use anything you can use computer paper and do your own drawings on and put them in you can use um crafting paper like people buy paper from michaels i just get all my stuff from the dollar store so this here is something i'm going to recommend to you it's called designer paper it's from dollarama is what it looks like so there's a couple different designs uh there's this one it comes in a 24 sheet designer paper so you get foiled pieces on here these are beautiful you get 12 unique paper designs in each one so this is more of i would say like a floral theme kind of so let me just go through and show you so you'll get a couple pieces of each print and there's this one you guys these are just gorgeous they're thick stunning quality and you can see you get a foiled and then you just get a non-foiled sheet so i've only ever found this floral option uh designer paper pad at dollarama so these are four dollars for all of this paper and usually one of these sheets does a full size pocket letter one side so front and then i always have a little strip left over and i will use that strip and make rosettes that's what i use to make my rosettes my paper rosettes with and i do believe that i have a video up on my channel already of how i make my paper rosettes so if i remember i'll link that down below as well if you want to check out that it's so easy and they turn out they're just so beautiful i love making them this is the other designer paper pad this is my favorite so it's like i feel like it's very tranquil this is gorgeous all the blues in here looks like waves iridescent all through it just quickly flip through to show you so this i love that one so much so this is you know the kind of paper that i prefer to use now like this this is just a binder cover that i had found from dollar tree or a pamphlet i guess kind of a plasticky material and i used the backside for another diy thanksgiving i believe it was so you can use something like that it would work wonderfully you can use these little pads as well from dollarama or dollar tree they both sell along these lines some of them are foiled this is just a wood grain pack that i had picked up and you can use these i'm sure other stores sell them as well but i really just shop at dollar tree and dollarama so dollaramas here in canada if you're not here in canada and you don't know what dollarama is and then once you have them cut up you literally just slide them down in to your slots here and again like i said front or back it's up to you or if you want to do both sides the next thing that i like to do is just start embellishing and decorating and this is how quickly it comes together so you can just by simply adding on stickers so if you're going with a butterfly theme just add on some butterfly stickers like i said i always try and theme mine up so i've done easter ones i've done mermaid ones i did a valentine's a floral uh spring like these are just so fun you let your imagination go you're not going to want to cover up your slots at the top so wherever you place your stickers don't place them over over the tops because you need to open those to put your goodies down in and i'll get to that yet and how i usually do this is i find that to add some washi the a great place now you can this is a thicker washi but you can use the really thin glittered washi and it goes nicely along the seams here but for this thicker stuff i like to put it it fits perfect right up here and it adds just such a nice finalized touch now that does cover up your holes uh for putting in a binder because normally with pocket letters people collect them and then they keep them in a binder and the great thing about pocket letters is it's fantastic to swap with friends right you do a pocket letter exchange what i do is i just take my scissors here just show you and then i just poke through the washi and create my make my holes again so you can use really exciting ribbon like this with the tassels here and now how i would do this because you don't want to cover up that you want to leave the holes exposed so i would just take some hot glue and run it right along here i would work in small sections so right along this little line here and then just attach your ribbon on there so it's going to cover it's going to add a nice beautiful beautiful finish to this page but then you'll still be able because it's just going to be attached at the top so these holes will still be exposed to put into a binder you can even use this little thin ribbon you see how that changes the look a lot of people uh will fill in these and need the center blank and make like a shaker window on here like this is a shaker tile i've done this before i prefer doing this way i think that it's beautiful i just fill this with whatever some sequins some beads sparkles sometimes i'll put the person's initial down in there but just so many ideas and then to seal it what i do is i take my hot glue gun and i run right across and then close it but you want to make sure this is sealed so that the stuff in here doesn't come out now you will see your hot glue line there especially if you're not using clear glue how i cover that up again you're washy and preferably a thinner washy or stickers or you know sticker trim like there's so many options it just looks better if you cover it your pocket letter should be pretty well done by now then now the fun part is you want to fill each pocket with a goodie so down inside the two pieces of paper front and back you're going to slide your goodies now i want to give you some ideas for in here because the possibilities are endless but some things that i like to stick in here are stickers um tags like beautiful beautiful gift tags um oh tea bags a bag of tea is perfect it fits in here perfectly some mini rolls of washi i like to put in just think anything embellishment-wise so i have this little container and you know something like these look at these fun beautiful hearts here is a beautiful gem heart i picked these up and you know look at you could put a bag mixed of all of these in there just fun little things like rosettes like look at all this stuff you you can put any of this kind of these kind of items in those are the type of things that fit perfectly so um i have all kinds of seasonal ones so some easter eggs some bunny rabbits bunny feet for fall i have all kinds of different sized leaves here's some more easter look at these ones for spring we have dragonflies butterflies they have little pieces of fruit in there oh i love these ones i picked these ones up last year hummingbirds my favorite one of these beautiful butterflies like i was saying if you're doing a butterfly theme butterfly cutouts and then valentine's you know or you can use anytime hearts so uh you can include some tassels look at pom-poms about some great big googly eyes for fun and another thing that's great so that you're not like loose pieces coming out all over the place is to get yourself some of these small little zipper bags like they seal at the top because these you can put fill them quite generously and then they slide and they fit down in here perfect that's like all i have to recommend for you today uh for pocket letters i hope this was helpful i hope that i covered uh what you were wanting from me but if you have any additional questions or more things you want me to get into or if you have any other video requests please let me know i know a lot of you have also requested for me to do a planner how to beginners planner guide and that's coming very soon as well so thank you all so much for watching and hanging out with me this was fun if you're new i'd love for you to subscribe so we can keep in touch and you can become part of this awesome youtube community sending you all good vibes and positivity and i will see you all in the next one bye guys
